@Spartan303

Here's a test case for you.

Where should news like this, and response like this from 'political' players go? Should the news and response from our Embassy be in separate threads?

Both. This is internal and you can talk about how it can shape the local situation in the war. And you can also take it to the political thread to talk about how the international community would take this.

Trouble in paradise?
Tweet is by Igor Strelkov, a former DNR military leader.
He says that heavy street fighting is happening in Mariupol that is done by the armed services of DNR. Chechens still have not joined the fight, he offers 3 possible explanations:
  • Chechens are too "precious" in the hearts of the commanders, their (and their leaders) lives and health are too important
  • Someone will have to take "victory pictures" and the kadyrovtsy would be quite photogenic for that
  • Command simply is afraid of being held responsible by R. Kadyrov for inevitable losses
And the russians [soldiers]? They [command] don't feel bad about them at all. 70% of wounded soldiers are sick from COVID. Almost all non-wounded soldiers are either sick from the same or from sharp cold-like symptoms [probably still COVID]. Forward units "live on dog food" [not literally]. In general, organization is bad. This isn't news, btw. In Chechnya it was the same in both campaigns.
Nevertheless, victory is needed like air.
This calls for a "Important Chechen bvll vs virgin separatist cannon fodder" meme.
The alternate theory i've heard that Chechens aren't there to fight, they are there as WW2 style barrier troops... in case the other troops got such unacceptable ideas as fucking off and not fighting.

4 Ka-52s lost so far, well below their replacement rate.

Also, Oryx's list is incomplete, has known errors, and means nothing, which was pointed out pages ago. If we grant 100% accuracy to his lists, Russia could easily afford 5 to 1 losses and come out ahead, that and as the Russian MoD releases more video evidence, it is becoming clear the UkA has lost more men and vehicles than Russia has. Kherson Base alone was a Brigade Base containing Divisional Assets and was overran pretty quickly with its vehicles and ammo captured and its Garrison basically disintegrating. Also a good 70,000 of the UkA's troops are trapped in pockets, 10,000 alone in Mariupol. As those close, Russia will be getting the bulk of their gear back and UkA will be losing the bulk of its professional troops.
No... That's you making stuff up...

Which you seem to do so much when it comes to stuff in Ukraine that one really has to wonder.

Finally, Ukraine is throwing teenagers on the front with just 3 days training and is short on rifles and ammunition. Russian Recruits are being sent in with a minimum of 6 months training. Also the Foreign Legion got wiped, and Ukraine's ability to make and distribute war material is being systematically destroyed.
This is just completely wrong...

A fourth General has apparently been killed during operations near the port city of Mariupol. Major General Oleg Mityaev. He seemed to have quite the stories career as well commanding a VDV brigade and serving as a Deputy Commander in Syria and a brigade commander earlier in the Donbass. He was apparently the commander of a Motorized Rifle Division during the Invasion.

When you lose 4 Field Generals in less than 4 weeks. You have a serious command and control problem.

Progress still supposedly being made in the peace negotiations.

More video of the Kherson Airport Strike by Ukrainian Forces.

Russia exits the Council of Europe having joined it back in 1996.

Seven members of the same Rosgvardia Special Forces unit reportedly killed during the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

If they are being used as Barrier Troops, many of them are being posted well behind the frontlines supposedly.

Less then three weeks really.

And supposedly almost twenty Colonels and similar ranks as well.

This does fit into the picture of an army that structurally didn't change that much since WW2, and the communications equipment problems demonstrate why it couldn't even if it wanted to.
After all, during WW2 some allied and axis generals alike had to show up close to the frontlines personally and ended up playing glorified traffic cop on occasions, notably including Patton.

Interesting map showing the difference between how the frontlines are depicted by Russian media vs a multitude of other sources.
You can also see the staying power of the infamous IFR (I Follow Roads) tactics.

The map seems to imply Kyiv is basically surrounded and that Russia is advancing troops out of Transnistria?
Yeah, didn't you hear that there was naval shelling of Odessa, btw.I am sure it was something shared in the thread, even the source was Ukrainian.

They are probably to cauldron the place.

Yes there was action over Odessa this past day, but that doesn't mean that there was any action in Transnistria even though its nearby. Transnistra, as far as is reported, doesn't really have any substantial forces stationed within it. This article is from yesterday.

Which is why I'm curious as to why that map seems to imply advances out of Transnistria when AFAIK nothing has been actually reported (even if it can theoretically occur in the future).

It is an avenue of attack from which they can encircle Odessa and take it.

South-west of Kiev:

NLAWS, everyone has them, but their utility is questionable.

Mariupol:

Yeah, that kit either:
1) Gets sold on the black market.
2) Goes into the Donbass armory.
3) Gets blown up by cruise missiles. :sneaky:
4) All of the above.

Maybe this?

Might be, I heard there was around 1300-1600 elderly and children inside, it’s all second hand info tough.

What’s this I hear about Azov gathering Ethnic Russian from Mariupol and blowing up a theater?
Russia covering up its most recent major war crime.
Mariupol:

Nice war crime coverup you have there.

Is this what the Russian Federation is calling their latest screw up? Yeah, Russian Federation aerial assets hit a theater that was being used as a civilian shelter.

Also, it looks like somebody from the shelter posted video. Those people are trapped in there basically until they can get rescued hopefully.
