Only thirty posts pruned today from sixteen or so pages of premium Internet Nerd War Content. A very nice improvement in the ratio from yesterday.

One new thread topic (with three whole posts) was made discussing the shift of Modern Gender Roles. Check it out here.

I was going to make another thread comparing the Apples and Oranges of Ukraine 2022 and Iraq 2003 but the conversation kept drifting back to the Ukraine conflict and other topics so I emptied the entire Dunb Ass enema into the appropriate Suppository Thread instead.

    - Sincerely

OK, the Boot is stepping in here. The Boot wishes to start by congratulating everybody on both sides of this for not breaking the rules. No infractions, bans, warnings, headslaps, dopeslaps, or the like have been needed to remind you all to behave and the Boot is very happy about this. In the interest of this continuing, the Boot would like to remind everybody to take a deep breath before posting and consider whether or not you are being fair to others. Don't spam up the thread, don't engage in personal attacks, and for the love of all that is holy do not mime.

    Seperate memes thread, when?

    Ask and You Shall Receive

Post memes in the Donb Ass thread.

Took the day before off (much like the Russian Military hurr durr) because things were going so well but it looks like the thread turned a shade more shitty in the past few hours. Derailed discussions about the Normandy Invasion, Biden's Mental State, the Iraq War and whatnot has been shunted off to the Donb Ass thread.

Might make some new threads pertaining to certain discussions, if so you'll get automated notifications from the staff reposted here.

One thing I do want to bring up is all of the Spammy posting going on. Memes about this War can go into the Donb Ass thread as stated before but some issues as of now that should be nipped in the bud...

@49ersfootball Stop posting so much. Look at what Schro-Wehraboo is doing and Husky Khan is doing in that they are combining multiple tweets/stories into one post. Also stop spazzing in responding to 49er's posts, @FriedCFour and others. Also everyone can tamp down on the multiposting, IIRC @Agent23 had FOUR posts in a row. Learn to multiquote. Every post you make is pushing down what could be substantial discussion

This thread is about covering the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and the primary reason people are here is because they want to see what's going on about it. If you want to shit spitballs at each other over nonsense or other topics, there's an entire rest of the Forum to explore. This is for focused discussion on the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and things directly related to it.

So in short, Memes about the War can go in the Donb Ass thread, stop spamming single tweets or hot takes or sperging replies to almost every post and stop multiposting. If you prefer not to do such things, threadbans can and will be issued instead.

Meanwhile conversations that drift into other topics or are related to this discussion more tangentially then directly (like the Operation Fortitude Discussion or the Biden stuff) will be pruned as needed without penalty as before.

    Cheers!

Now I'm off to Snake Island.

Hence forward, we'll be adopting the policy inspired by this post below.

*sigh* Is this necessary? just exchange info and believe what you want to believe, no need to get worked up, we’ll never know the truth for sure until it’s all over anyways.

If you feel that disinformation has been posted, feel free to post counter-evidence or analysis to discount the supposed information instead of attacking the poster as a liar, fanboy, Nazi apologist, racist, or otherwise being insulting, condescending or flame baity for posting stuff from a fluid conflict. Or better yet, just post your evidence without even having to reference the prior poster in any way except maybe quoting them.

If your incapable of doing that, you don't have to post in this thread and if you still can't do that, we can have you banned from this thread instead. You can stick to Telegram and Twitter. Most people here just want to read and exchange information, not read about peoples personal issues with each other inflamed over their ideological differences in this one conflict and other petty internet forum drama and using an actual war as a vehicle to "Ree" about such petty crap.

And keep in mind memes and stuff should go in the other thread here:

With that said, new threads were made concerning the following:

    Discussing alternatives to Russian Energy:

And discussing the Restoration of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in Alternate History!

Also some posts were moved to this thread:

Anyways Nerds, since everyone is posting Tweets and this is a forum founded by Science Fiction/Fantasy and Gaming nerds, I will leave you with this comparatively petty Nerdshit:

OK, it appears that the Boot is having to step in once more, as people are getting a bit out of hand. While it is true that alleged neo-Nazi symbolism on certain Ukrainians is suspicious, that is not a perfect means of ideological identification due to the other potential meanings. Wishing rape and torture on people is very much against the rules, consider this a formal warning from the Boot to knock it off. By the same token, gloating over the presence of alleged neo-Nazi's and approving of their existence and ideology is against the TOS. Be cautious about such things.

This thread has been relatively good in that people are mostly behaving, please do not ruin it for everybody else.

Sixty Nine (that's what she said) posts have been moved to the Donbass Derail Discussion thread. Unfortunately some of the posts blended discussion with the actual invasion with a lot of other topics such as Iran, the Vietnam War, China, Canada etc but alas... almost none were spared since I wanted to try and keep the discussion as intact as possible. I briefly considered leaving the discussion here but the discussion tangent, while sometimes related to the Invasion itself, often drifted hard on hypotheticals and other topics and issues and some of the posts were dominated the pages and thread itself so it was all mostly shunted over to the other thread.

Keep in mind, the intention of this thread is to focus on the Invasion and events and context immediately and directly related to it, not scrolling through post after post dominating page after page of discussion not dealing with the Invasion directly. Drifting tangents of discussion will be pruned into the DonbAss thread or maybe other threads if practical (to me). The primary purpose of this thread is for content on the War, not commentary.

And keep in mind what was said earlier... if faced with possible disinfo, counter with evidence or arguments targeting the evidence, not the poster. This thread isn't for flame wars between posters. Try and keep the discussion civil. And no memes and try and not to spam/multipost if practical. I know the latter is hard because of conversational drift and you might want to collate multiple responses but make an attempt.

This is a war with lots of issues, ideologies and very real impact and potential consequences people are considering when they view and react to this Invasion. Just try not to be asshats and be civil to each other and in treating this ongoing Conflict in particular in this thread.

That is all... Good Work or whatever. Keep it up!

Thread Pruning Now With Commentary MK V

Most of the past few pages of posts were of people talking to each other about disagreements in the leading up to the War, which while related to this conflict, has already had a thread about it... with over two thousand posts discussing that topic. That can be found here:

I was going to move a lot of those posts there as well as move other posts in the Donb Ass thread but most of the conversational drift was blended into those topics and other tangential topics again (Colonialism, World War Two, Napoleonic Quotes about Logistics etc). So it all got crudely shunted in the Donb Ass thread.

Also like I stated before, this thread is meant more for content/news about the War, and not so much Commentary. There's been a lot of the latter. And in some cases there's been drifting/derailing conversation and then posters add a bunch of tweets or whatever so that it won't get moved to the other thread even though I pointed out in my last post to please not do that. On a post by post basis, some posts were moved to the Donb Ass thread and others not.

Regardless... people offering their own Commentary on what's going on and discussions thereof can go to the Donb Ass threads. I don't want this thread to turn out like CNN with Armchair Experts arguing what's going on and disagreeing about what they said or didn't say previously instead of... ya know... reporting on the actual events of this conflict and looking for confirmation bias of ones opinions and hot takes. This thread is about the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, and events and context directly related to that as stated before. A lot of the side discussions here could be happening (and have happened) in other threads already.

Almost eighty posts pruned from the Thread, almost half of them since my last Threadmark. A few commentary posts which again, will now go into the Donb Ass thread as well as conversational drift about Neon, NCO's and some huge tangents about the Responsibility for the War and people derailing discussion to talk about sourcing accuracy and people bringing up things like Libya and Inflation and the like, which while related, isn't directly part of the purpose of this thread which is information about the Russian Invasion of the Ukraine. So it's all been Donb Bass'd.

If you got your own Commentary/Analysis, especially repetitive commentary that you've posted several times in the thread already, it'll get shunted off to the Donb Ass thread most likely. As well as open ended speculation on accuracy of sources. Spending/Wasting time speculating on the accuracy of this or that derails from the discussion of the Invasion itself. If you have evidence or substantiation to disprove or otherwise cast doubt on something, then post it. Otherwise save the Psy-Ops and Counter Psy-Ops takes for the Donb Ass thread and judge the evidence for yourselves to take it or leave it. Same with discussion of Responsibility for the War. We've had a huge thread on it already right here in this forum. If you wanna hash it out, we now basically have two threads with discussions on it thanks to all of the crude unguided pruning I've done in this thread, irregardless of innocent bystander posts.

Forty or so posts skimmed off. Some actually already had threads created for those very topics and in a rare glimmer of extra effort, I moved posts to said discussions. Shocking I know. Doubtful it will be repeated. But just as a reminder...

We have threads on the Biolabs in Ukraine Theory/Conspiracy:

And a thread on Alternatives to Russian Energy Specifically:

Drifting discussion on oil depots and oil production and Whataboutism and financial markets was moved to the Donb Ass thread.

Also moved some posts from America's Freedom Convoy thread to the Donb Ass thread. Keep your convoys straight people FFS.

@LTR I think you might want to add 'energy' to the junkyard thread as well.

Thread Title is sadly approaching it's character limit. Fortunately there are a few threads that discuss alternative energy and energy policy already. One specifically dealing with the Russian Invasion of Ukraine is above. But there are others as well.

    Renewable Energies & Green Technologies:

    Nuclear Energy:

    Conservatism and the Environment:

Cuts in to cut out more extraneous conversations.

Decided to leave in the extended Javelin/Cope Cage conversation though. I'm not sure its a significant topic on its own but if the discussion continues then I'll probably prune it into its own thread later. A lot of the topics that drifted, or actually initiated, already had threads made on those very specific topics. So instead of posting those things here, post them in those threads. As a reminder... here are some of the splinter threads that literally discuss the things people are bringing up in here and clogging up the thread that is supposed to be about the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

    This is for @Chiron :p

Here's one for the alternatives to Russian energy.

And yes... we have a Biolabs in Ukraine thread already @SchrodingersWehraboo

If this Invasion de-evolves into Biological/Germ Warfare, I'll be more then happy to mea culpa and merge the threads though.

More posts pruned. Most were relating to Assad, comparisons to the Iraq War or posts that were engaged in personal speculation and commentary. As stated in previous staff posts, personal hot takes can go to the Donb Ass thread. The primary purpose of this thread is discussing and covering the events of this conflict. Also as stated before anyone wanting to celebrate the conflict or other propagandistic behavior can do that in the Donb Ass thread as well. And again if your disagreeing with sources, provide counter evidence, not your own random speculation in this thread. This is also true if your just being contrarian because you think one side or the other is automatically lying. This thread and I won't care about your personal viewpoints. The Donb Ass thread is for random Sietcher speculation, biased and otherwise. You can recreate your adversarial CNN Panel discussions there. A few posts pertaining to the ongoing Biolab speculation were moved to the Biolab discussion.

Some posts that were 'newsworthy' but also had excessive commentary on Assad or other topics were moved to the Donb Ass thread unfortunately, more to keep the 'conversations threads' intact instead of bouncing them between threads.

Removed almost seventy posts rehashing what has been talked about in a combined three thousand posts worth of threads already. If y'all wanna act like Donb Asses, there's threads for bickering about the leadup to the War... again. As before, and I've been pretty lenient, derails like this can lead to threadbans if only to keep this thread focused on the news of the conflict itself, not the constant back and forth about the causes, tangents, sources, personal commentary or other interpersonal drama.

More posts moved to the Donb Ass Thread. This thread is for reporting on events happening in the War itself.

All other tangents include food or the inevitable plunge of the petrodollar or whatever, as well as posts bickering about sources, or peoples unsubstantiated hot takes/amateur commentary, or whining about the WEF/Globohomo or other nonsense will be pruned into the Donb Ass Thread.

Also no multiposting. This is more for @TheRejectionist who probably didn't get the memo from earlier staff posts.

Arguing about sources... and then countering by spamming/multiposting said sources has resulted in a whole conversation being shunted off to the Donb Ass Thread where it may or may not continue since it was basically an ego battle hijacking this thread. It's particularly annoying since there was actual substantive events being posted. I know some people have opined why I'm doing this, others have shown appreciation for the fact that a third of the posts have been removed from this thread so that people that are merely reading this for a summary of events or to add to said thread with news and some basic analysis and reaction can still do so without scrolling through pages of other 'extraneous discussion.' Still haven't dispensed any threadbans since pruning seems efficient enough at the moment. Carry on.

Bunch of posts (with the exception of one) shunted off to the Don Bass. Once again, quibbling about sources without proper counter-evidence beyond your hot takes is not allowed in this thread as those discussions derail this conversation with endless circular conversations about said sources and resolves nothing except clogging this thread with posts that aren't directly related to news in this conflict. This particular discussion (like others) led to trolling and personal attacks and flame baiting behavior and other Rule #2 Civility Violations and unfortunately led to the first Threadban due to the ignoring of Multiple Staff Directives in regards to engaging in that kind of posting in this thread.

Also a discussion on comparing Mariupol to Marawi was shunted off to DonBass like other previous 'comparisons' to foreign conflicts. That's all for now.

Still pruning the thread regularly. I'm just not obnoxiously posting red staff texts every day or two to tell everyone.

A few posters were taking issue to the nature of the thread pruning and that's understandable. There is no legally defined redline or anything for pruning but I did prune some posts yesterday containing personal analysis/commentary and transferred them to the Donbass thread. Those pruned posts eventually led to a fifty post long discussion with people throwing insults and bickering back and forth with each other over word usage and terminology. It's that kind of bickering that I don't want mucking up this very thread.

Some may disagree, but this thread is meant for direct reporting and discussion on the events of the War. If some of the posts pruned from this thread last evening remained here, we'd have one post about the Actual War itself followed by five or ten or fifteen posts of people throwing insults at each other and while some of you might want that, there's others who actually don't and since there's thread(s) for both, those conversations will be pruned to the appropriate topic. And if you want to engage in that kind of behavior and posting and just want to argue with other people and/or offer up your own personal armchair analysis of the conflict or disputing of sources or whatever, we have the Donb Ass and numerous other topic oriented threads for that kind of discussion.

Finally it's not actually that much work occasionally pruning the thread. Thank you for those of you that brought that up, sarcastically or otherwise. It was initially but thankfully most people seem capable of figuring out the purpose of this thread by now and have options to discuss topics related to this issue but beyond the focus of this thread (which is direct discussion of the Wars Events).

Donb Ass thread so far seems pretty effective for archiving various back-and-forth conversations in their entirety, yes. (y)

Okay sounds good. We'll prune these 'debunking' discussions into the Donb Ass thread.

    Gimme a few minutes.

    EDIT:

Posts Moved. We'll see how effective it is but all of the arguments/discussion about veracity of sources (like the audit tweets we've had of Oryx for example) will be pruned to the Donb Ass thread as practical under the previously established guideline for this thread that all arguments and discussions about veracity of sources should be shunted off to the other thread as before.

Obviously there's hazy gray areas to be had but we've had other issues (not related to popular OSINT nerds previously but for example MSM stories on war crimes and other actions or whatever) similar to this and we'll just keep playing it by ear and try and keep the focus in THIS thread on the Events of the War as they're being reported.

Degenerating people for nationality is not allowed on this site. Yes, this means using slurs even to refer to bad people, such as Nazis, murderers, genociders, rapists, etc. This rule exists to keep a level of calm discussion on this forum (hence being a civility rule), not to protect precious fee-fees. You can insult them, fine, just don't use slurs.
