    Hunters part 2 - Omake

The secure conference they commandeered was alive with activity as the two reserve team went through records and scanned information brought in by the other teams. Sidney was reading a report from the teams going after Isu while Gozen was talking down the phone at Delta.

"I don't care who's turf you step on," Gozen said down the line, "I want to know who Isu was able to smuggle half dozen more 8cm and 5cm lasers onto various buildings without us even getting a whiff of this I want a warrant for the HVAC company and a computer tech to tear their system to piece for any shred of evidence comprendo? Good."

She put her phone down and Sidney asked, "Tough customer?"

"Delta Team lead needed a firm hand," she said with a shrug, "this is a counter-terrorism nightmare."

"Aye," Sidney said rolling his shoulders, "if DEST could have grabbed this hardware from disposal sites...."

They both shuddered and Gozen shakes her head, "anything from the bank accounts?"

"The bank accounts in question are playing hardball we are going back overall transactions but it will take time," he said with a shrug, "same with the disposal records of the lasers we are having to trace back through it to see who said what and we are depending on peoples memory here which is notoriously unreliable."

"What about the drunks who your boss is sweating?" she asked.

He made a disgusted expression, "If they have anything I'd even consider remotely reliable I'd be surprised though it doesn't hurt to try at this point I think our best bet is to follow the Lasers and the HVAC company down the line same with the chemical analysis from the lab on the mount."

She shakes her head, "so we need to wait for the labs to get back while the field teams work on chasing down the HVAC company and the disposal site?"

"Yep," Sidney said with a sigh rubbing his eyes, "it will be slow going we will have to see what comes through. You heard anything from Michelle Carter yet?"

"Nope though my people in the PD have seen her people prowling about," Gozen said with a shrug, "If we hear anything Intel will probably be the first people she approaches."

They both sigh and get back to hunting these people who struck at the Royal Family.

"Since you folks currently have search warrants raining down on you like manna from heaven," said Michelle Carter cheerfully over Agent Riley's private comm line (which he had most certainly not given her), "I believe the best thing I can contribute at the moment is perspective. Specifically -- you're quite aware that you don't actually have the shooters."

    "Excuse me?"

There was a playful smugness to Ms. Carter's matter-of-fact tone. "Don't worry, your investigation isn't actually leaking. It's simply obvious that those drunk sad sacks you have in custody are not even remotely capable of actually hitting a small private plane with a manually aimed, open sighted anti-aircraft mount. Doing so reliably enough to plan an assassination attempt around it requires an extremely specialized skill set, and we are both well aware that contrary to popular fiction, there is not even remotely enough of a market to sustain independent contractors with tactical skills like that.

Thus, you are looking for someone ex-military who was trained on that specific mounting *and* also on that particular weapon, most likely with a covert operations background via either special operations or intelligence. A straightforward but unfortunately broad set of correlations -- I may be able to help you narrow it down."

Carter was definitely implying that she did indeed have her father's underworld records, and if those were anything close to what was rumored, cross-referencing those might indeed shed considerable light. . .

"Her Majesty has 'suggested' that a certain highly trusted infantry unit should be tasked with this operation 'because they'll never see that coming'. In response, Sergeant Ngo has firmly reminded Her Majesty that she is no longer a lieutenant and is not allowed to come up with stupid ideas. That said, we are going to be utilizing 'outside assets' in order to minimize the chance of the target escaping."

Michelle Carter looked positively smug until an even smugger Queen grandly flourished her Official Royal Pen. "Congratulations on your preemptive pardon for piles of burglary, assault, and battery charges, Ms. Carter!"

"With all due respect, Your Highness, preemptive pardons are not a thing, and I'm not sure it sets a good precedent for either of us to take our, ah, cooperation that far."

"That's an excellent point." Janet facepalmed as the pen was grandly flourished again. Her Majesty was entirely too fond of playful theatricality. "I suppose I'll just have to hire you instead. How would Rudyard Kipling put it? Ah yes. 'This is a brief life, but in its brevity it offers us some splendid moments, some meaningful adventures.'."

    ". . ."

"Best to just go with the flow." suggested Jane cheerfully. "Or my cousin will try to stiff you on pay rate."

    "I AM NOT YOUR COUSIN!"

"Come, fellow Royal Operative -- to the BATMOBILE!"

"MY CAR IS NOT A BATMOBILE, AND YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO BORROW IT!"

"Get with the times, cousin, we're preemptively-pardon-stealing it!"

    "ARGH!"

    ----

The combat hovercraft waiting outside already had the music cued, causing the founding uncriminal employees of the Crown Special Branch to wonder just how much of a complete sneak their new boss was.

"She would have been a spectacular evil overlord." sighed Michelle, wiping an imaginary tear. "Absolutely spectacular."

"Oooooh, she got us laser pistols and sneak suits!"

"See, she even has the sexy minion outfits!"

"How could you?!??!?!" Willis wails melodramatically, flailing his arms with a sheaf of military files clutched in hand. "I just took a little nap, and the very moment my back is turned, you're letting NOLLAK INDUSTRIES have access to advanced autocannon technology!"

"Technically, they're the same guns they had before, it's just the ammunition feeds that are improved. . . " adds Thanh helpfully. "I've flown against them in simulations, they are really nasty."

"YOU HAVE TOTALLY! BETRAYED! PILOTS! EVERYWHERE!" declares Willis grandly. "AND NOW WE SHALL HAVE OUR REVENGE!!!"

Willis and Thanh pounce on you, and Willis gleefully demonstrates that he remembers exactly where all of your ticklish spots are.

Secure Containment Information Facility - Royal Palace

"Our analysis of the three incoming DropShips' drive signatures gives us very high confidence that one of them is the same Union-CV class aerospace carrier dropship that was previously deployed against us ten years ago during the last major attack. We only have tentative IDs on the other two; one is around ten thousand tons and the other is around *fifty* thousand tons with five distinct sub-plumes. Our best guesses on those are a Mule class cargo hauler and a Aqueduct class fuel hauler. They remain on course for an landing on Griffin IV, and are clearly planning to establish a forward base there. It's the only reason to bring something as specialized and valuable as that huge fuel carrier."

The Aerospace Force officer delivering the classified briefing was a relatively young and clearly nervous Captain. Fortunately, the Queen was very good at calm, reassuring Mom Smiles. "They'd be able to attack us directly from that base?"

"It's possible, but only marginally. At a sustained 1.5G burn, Griffin IV is roughly a 24 hour flight for a maximum-velocity flyby or 32 hours for a zero-zero intercept. ASFs can fly that far but they'd be at severely degraded combat readiness. We think what they intend is to use that Union-CV to ferry several loads of fighters to the base, then hot-deck off it to double or even triple their effective fighter complement during their next major attack."

"They're still badly underestimating us then. Especially with the new Eagles, our ASF wings are more than a match for thirty-six of theirs."

"Remember that they can *produce* Leopard-CVs. With the three-collar JumpShip they clearly have, they can drop off a pair of loaded Leopard-CVs on each future run to this forward base, along with twelve ASFs from the Union-CV; that's twenty-four ASFs and two Leopard-CVs per run. Or in the worst case, they could have the ability to produce Union-CVs, which would allow them to bring in 36 fighters every run. We're going to have to monitor jump and drive plumes very carefully; if we can figure out their delivery schedule, we should be able to get a good idea of when they're going to attack and in what strength."

(For pure ASF deliveries, the most likely scenario would be two more supply runs for a force of one Union-CV and four Leopard-CVs hot decking sixty ASFs between them, while the maximum plausible would be three more supply runs for one Union and six Leopards hot decking eighty-four ASFs. Obviously, things mix up quite a bit if future drive plumes are anything other than Union-CV/Leopard-CV mix, but we should be able to see that coming.)

"So the bottom line is that they've realized our defenses are too potent for a direct JumpShip/DropShip assault, and are setting up a forward base to work around that bottleneck." The Queen frowned. "This is troubling, although I suppose it's also a backhanded compliment to our ASF forces."

"But it doesn't make any sense, Mom!" interjects James, twitching a little. Since Jeremy was away at sea, the next-in-line twins were sitting in on the briefing. "Kurita is one of the Great Houses of the Star League; they could just *use bigger JumpShips* instead of dancing around with forward bases that they know we can see!"

"That's actually one of the things that's been keeping our analysts up at night." agrees the Captain smoothly, handling the interruption with relative aplomb. "According to our friend from the Magistracy, the answer is that space infrastructure throughout the Inner Sphere really was hit *that hard* during the First and Second Succession Wars. WarShips are completely extinct, and JumpShip production is incredibly limited.

So yes, bringing in a Monolith with six Union-CVs and three Overlords on her collars would be a very direct solution to the problem we present them. But large JumpShips like that are few and far between even for a Great House. They may well have used one or two of those or even a Potemkin to bring their force from the Combine all the way out here, but they literally could not afford to leave such critically rare assets on an extended deployment. The heavy lift JumpShips must have been sent back to the Combine once they found a suitable planet to deploy on for their initial landing, which is also why they've been committed to the occupation of Nowa Warszawa rather than simply moving to a more convenient, uninhabited planet."

The officer waited for the Queen's nod before moving back to the slide deck. "We've seen them deploy dropship counts consistent with a one-collar and a three-collar JumpShip; while it would be dangerously over-optimistic to conclude that this is all they have retained, they are clearly reluctant to commit multiple JumpShips or larger JumpShips *even* when they have strong reason to believe there is no possible way we could threaten them. We're not sure *why* they are so reluctant, but this forward base strategy is a pretty solid commitment to small Jumps. They will likely continue to use the three-collar ship to build up forces at the forward base; seeing troop transport Dropships or a larger JumpShip would likely indicate that the next major assault is underway."

"I see. What are our options?"

"Unfortunately, we don't have any viable immediate responses. Our ASFs would be just as exhausted as theirs without carrier support, and the Enterprise is simply too fragile to risk in hot space. We would have to build our own carrier and combat transports in order to field any viable counterattack, and the Aerospace Force's recommendation is that we hold back until we can assemble a decisive force."

    Omake: Strategic Update

    Situation Room - Royal Palace

The "master display" board that dominated one of the walls of the Situation Room had been updated to show the current count and status of Combine assets in-system:

    Code:
    Griffin IV:
        Mule #2 (Landed)
        Aqueduct #1 (Landed)
        Leopard (CV?) #1 (Landed)
        Leopard (CV?) #2 (Landed)
        Leopard (CV?) #3 (Landed)
        Leopard (CV?) #4 (Landed)
        Leopard (CV?) #5 (Landed)

        ASFs: 58-78
        BattleMechs: 0-20

    System Space
        Three-Collar Jumpship #1 (Nadir, Recharging)
        Three-Collar Jumpship #2 (Nadir, Recharging)

        Behemoth (Nadir -> Griffin IV)
        Condor (Nadir -> Griffin IV)

        Union-CV #1 (Nadir -> Griffin IV)
Leopard (CV?) #6 (Nadir -> Griffin IV)
Leopard (CV?) #7 (Nadir -> Griffin IV)

        ASFs: 4-12
        BattleMechs: 0-8

"That is one ugly DropShip." commented the Queen with false cheer as the senior staff filed in for the emergency briefing. "Please tell me it's not another kamikaze."

"It's definitely not another kamikaze, at least not in any sense other than being sent on what is clearly a one-way deployment. We were guessing Overlords and Excaliburs for their heavy-lift DropShip reserves, and that analysis is still valid overall; a Behemoth like that is only useful for bulk cargo, because it can't land. As in, it can't land even when it's in perfect condition. It's purely a JumpShip-to-orbit hauler, and incredibly fragile even by civilian standards. Our best guess is that it's hauling a very, very large amount of improvised orbit-denial weaponry targeted on our orbital stations and defense satellites. There's really no other plausible role for it.

"As for the rest of their force, the other new unit is a Condor class DropShip, which is a battalion infantry carrier. Even if the maximum possible number of BattleMechs reinforce that battalion, they are grossly underestimating our ground forces and we are confident we can handle this threat with minimal risk even if they get past the ASFs. The Army's primary concern will be identifying their drop zone as quickly as possible and intercepting them before they can cause collateral damage.

"The core of the battle is going to be the ASF strike. It's a fairly good sign that we haven't seen a second Union CV, because our analysts are pretty confident that the arrival of the troop transports means they will *not* be waiting another cycle before attacking. Without carriers of our own we simply don't have any fancy deployment options, and they know it; we expect a straight head-to-head engagement where their expectation is to swarm us under with vastly superior numbers, and our expectation is that they will be unpleasantly surprised at both our actual numbers and our superior individual performance."

In the quietly tense weeks between the arrival of the last round of DCMS DropShips and the final preparations for battle, Jackie Griffith made personal visits to every single unit of the Armed Forces. She sat with them. She ate with them. She talked with them.

She paid particularly close attention to the Aerospace Force, because everyone could see the numbers of Combine ASFs they were going to be facing. Even in the best possible case, most of those brave young men and women were not going to be coming home (her heart smothered the terror that someday in the near future, her own daughter would be among them), and they knew that, and they were going to go up there anyway.

And all Jackie Griffith could do was look each of them in the eyes and make damn sure they knew that she knew what she was asking of them, that she did not ask it lightly, and that she personally swore that they would never be forgotten.

The National Emergency Command Post (Afloat) modifications to the old Triton class submarine had converted the vessel's Combat Information Center into a fairly cramped and austere strategic command-and-control facility.

The Queen spent little time in her provided flag quarters during the three miserably tense days between boarding and the arrival of the Combine attack, instead alternating between receiving updates on the strategic situation and spending time in the officers' mess. It was quietly understood that Jackie Griffith despised the royal duty of being safe while her people went forth to fight and die in the name of the Queen, and the ship's officers quietly rotated through in their off-duty hours to keep her engaged in professional small talk.

When the time for battle came, the Queen took station by the master plot and glared at it with a focused intensity, as if she could reach through it to personally smite the little red pips that marked the incoming Combine invaders.

    ----

"The enemy ASFs have rendezvoused with their DropShips and are continuing to retreat towards Griffin IV." The very, very young Lieutenant at the commmunications console subtly sagged with relief.

    "Casualties?"

"All fighter wings report no losses, Ma'am." Word had spread that the Queen responded to "Your Majesty" with a terrifying glare, although no one could actually say who it had happened to. "And the L4 stations are transmitting an all-clear."

"Very good. Chances of a second wave?"

"They lost all of their ground forces when we took out the two DropShips, and the ASFs are too lightly armed to make an unsupported attack worthwhile. The day is ours, Ma'am." The lieutenant really shouldn't have added that, but he could practically see the weight evaporating from her shoulders.

The Queen nodded, her voice soft. "Let's go home."

"Up until the arrival of the Merchant class JumpShip carrying their ground assault force, our tactical assessment was that the incoming force was intended as a combined reconnaissance in force and spoiling attack.

"This directly illustrates the strategic advantage which the Combine's possession of an unknown number of JumpShips and DropShips gives them: they can attack us essentially at will, and we can't see what forces they are committing until they are in-system. We predicted that they had additional JumpShips and a reserve of large heavy-lift DropShips, but were still caught off-guard by the zenith jump point deployment and subsequent pincer attack.

"On the other hand, that pincer attack was a decisive tactical blunder on the part of the Combine. We're not sure why they were so confident that we would commit our heavy fighters to attacking their aerospace carriers, but they left their transport dropships almost totally undefended. As a result, they lost two heavy lift DropShips carrying an *entire combined-arms regiment* and an additional Mech battalion -- by far the largest and most powerful expeditionary force they've sent out, and likely the senior command element for this mission."

"In terms of follow-up, we clearly have an urgent need for more ASFs. All three of our new ASF classes -- the Gyrfalcon, Eagle, and Goshawk -- performed exceptionally well, but the Gyrfalcons were in a losing stalemate due to the sheer number of Sabers they were up against. Our best option moving forward is to reinforce the Gyrfalcons with additional Eagle squadrons, and continue production of both of our anti-dropship classes; if we'd had more available, we could have made a solid attempt to punch *through* the fighters and take out their dropships.

"For now, the absence of their fuel carrier is a fairly solid indication that they're not looking to launch another attack on us anytime soon. They are likely to continue probing us with reconnaissance in force from their Sabers and Leopards, but given how well we performed against them, will hesitate to do so until they've been substantially reinforced. Close tracking of their resupply missions should give us a good idea how much production capacity they have for these classes."

"Thank you. Ah, computer, do you have a name?"

"Unit is 'CASPAR Command And Control System'." The AI's voice wasn't completely inflectionless, but its inflections were unambiguously synthetic. And it could somehow distinctly pronounce quotation marks.

"CASPAR, do you have a preferred nickname?"

"Parameter [Nickname] Not Configured. Would you like to configure Parameter [Nickname]?" CASPAR could also prounounce brackets. A couple of the Royal Guard infantrymen were starting to look nervous, clearly pondering the fact that CASPAR could probably turn on the automated defenses whenever she felt like it. Sergeant Ngo firmly ushered them outside.

    "Yes please."

    "Please input Parameter [Nickname]."

"On 28 Feburary 2929, Star Lord class JumpShip entered system at zenith point, carrying six Mule-class DropShips. No DropShips were deployed and the JumpShip departed system upon reaching full charge."

"Fuck, it's confirmed then. They have a Star Lord."

"Negative. Star Lord class JumpShip transmitted unknown IFF signature. All DCMS JumpShips and DropShips have transmitted DCMS IFF signature."

"Oh." The Queen frowned. "28 February 2929 was right before the attack."

The holotank abruptly blinked, planets shifting in their orbits.

Enlisted Mess - 331 Command Post

Several hours into the Queen's conversation with the Star League era AI that apparently ran this entire place, Sergeant Ngo stuck her head out of the command post and rotated the on-duty squad of Royal Guard infantry with the second squad that had been brought along but stood down.

Naturally, the now off-duty infantry troopers gravitated towards their 'natural habitat' in the comfortable if dusty enlisted mess clearly marked on the facility maps. Shortly thereafter, they discovered a sealed pallet. Increasingly energetic attempts to pry the pallet open all failed until someone found a neatly labelled "release" tab. At that point, a hermetic seal audibly popped and the pallet neatly hinged open on hidden seams, revealing a rather clever grid of internal seperators holding stacks of rectangular MRE pouches.

"Huh. 'Meal-Ready-To-Eat, Individual. Menu FFF, Lot Production Date 2765'. These look just like ours, 'cept marked Star League Defense Force. Oh, and no expiration date."

No expiration date (and the continued absence of Sgt. Ngo) proved an irresistible lure for the young troopers, who soon dared each other into discovering the first notable feature of genuine Star League Defense Force field rations.

    "THE GODDAMN THING WON'T TEAR!"

A pocketknife failed to cut the remarkably durable outer pouch, and a formidable-looking combat knife proved equally ineffective. Admitting a temporary defeat and actually reading the packaging revealed an "Open Here" notch along one side of the pouch which perfectly matched the hilt of a Mauser 960 vibro-bayonet.

Upon being slit open with that instrument, the MRE emitted a loud POP! and a sharp HISS!, followed by an inner tray much like that of a TV dinner sliding out with a hot, freshly cooked burger and fries as its centerpiece and a vislbly cold pouch of soda pop on the side.

The first-dared private looked at the package, then back at the burger, and suddenly something clicked. "HOLY SHIT, GUYS. IT'S A TRIPLE-F BURGER."

    ----

Thus was rediscovered the most important piece of LosTech in the entire history of the Star League: MREs that were actually meals, actually ready, and actually good to eat.

Given the sheer breadth of information she had provided the Queen, Sarah was rather quickly set up with a carefully vetted team of duly authorized operatives.

"We totally should have worn the catsuits."

"We're talking to Sarah. That is not a sneak operation."

    "Everything's a sneak operation!"

"Sigh. Why do I put up with you again?"

"Because I'm cooler than all your other associates."

"You are currently my only associate."

    "My point stands!"

"Can we actually do our job now? Hello, Sarah....hello?"

    "..."

    "Yo, Sarah!"

    "..."

"Congratulations, you broke the Star League AI." Michele shot a nervous glance in the direction of the internal defense console, which remained visibly set to "Standby".

"You worry too much. The console says she's fine, she's just. . . ignoring us?"

    Code:
"You are sneaking. Counter-counter-surveillance systems are not active."

    "We are *not* sneaking."

    "Acknowledged."

    -----

"I wonder what that Drac commander thought when he realized all the dropper choppers were coming for him."

"Activating surveillance protocol <The Star League Sees All>."

    "YOU CAN DO THAT?!?!?!?"

"Negative. Surveillance protocol <The Star League Sees All> is a pre-recorded file."

"Oh." Jane blinked, then smirked. "Are there death rays?"

"External Defense Stations include ER Large Lasers. Internal Defense Stations include Antipersonnell Pulse Lasers and Support Pulse Lasers. Internal Defense Stations activating on <Demonstration Mode>."

No less than *eight* turrets slid smoothly out of concealed floor and ceiling hatches in the CIC, each sporting what appeared to be twin rifle-grade pulse lasers coupled with a semi-portable PPC. The turrets swung smoothly through their entire elevation and training range, then retracted.

"Jane, please do not ask Sarah to show us her death rays. Sarah, please do not point your death rays at us, training mode or not." Michelle was definitely using Mom Voice again.

Sergeant Ngo poked her head into the room, munching on a Triple-F burger. "You asked her about death rays, didn't you? You owe the supply vehicle crews a round of drinks. The internal turrets in the main access corridor are freakin' quad Small Pulse Lasers."

For once, Jackie Griffith was not on board a submarine. Willis was on board a submarine, and Thanh and Sarah were on board the other submarine, but Jackie was in the 331 command bunker where Sarah's sensors and holotank gave her a much, much better view of the battle. This turned out to be incredibly depressing -- she had a pixel-perfect, near real time view of her people going out to fight, but couldn't do a thing to actually affect the outcome of the battle. Sarah's exterior defense turrets were exceedingly formidable, but they did not include full-scale surface-to-orbit naval weaponry.

It was an absolute blessing that none of her people *died* for her to see, but none of the enemy did either. It was clear that while they weren't enough to turn the tide of the battle, those heavily armed and armored Leopard CV dropships were dishing out quite a bit more kicking than they took, and the lack of an equivalent heavy platform for the Griffin Aerospace Force was. . . decidedly suboptimal.

Jackie ended up discussing long into the evening with both Sarah and General Palmer. In the end, nothing was really decided; they definitely needed a trump card to deter further harassment strikes, but they also didn't want to show their hand with regard to DropShip construction capability until they had a decisive number of DropShips available to take maximum advantage of the surprise.

    Omake: Strategic Summary

"Based on combining Sarah's data with our historical records and previous intelligence, we've come up with an updated strategic analysis for your perusal.

"The Draconis Combine expeditionary force we've been at war with for the last thirty-odd years is a detachment of the elite Amphigean Light Assault Group, dispatched to this part of the Periphery on direct orders from Coordinator Hugai Kurita. Their objective is to occupy one or more habitable planets here in the Deep Periphery, set up large scale military production, and then launch a major invasion of the Federated Suns. They have already invaded and occupied an inhabited planet in one of our neighboring star systems, and we are next on their menu.

"Given that we've seen them deploy forces of regimental level, the detachment is at least brigade strength, probably division strength. They have at least five JumpShips and a considerable stockpile of DropShips, with observed examples of Behemoth, Mammoth, Overlord, Excalibur, and Aqueduct models, all of which are relatively rare and extremely valuable in the modern day Inner Sphere. Even more importantly, this force has confirmed production capability for Leopard CV class DropShips and Saber class AeroSpace Fighters, probable production capability for Jenner class BattleMechs and Leopard or Union class DropShips, and possible production capability for Overlord and/or Excalibur class DropShips, as these remain the standard battalion and regiment level combat transports. We have no direct evidence for those last, but they would inherently require transports of that magnitude for their planned offensive.

"Thus far, all of the Combine's efforts to land forces on our planet have been repulsed, with the largest and most recent attempt being intercepted and destroyed before it could even make planetfall. They have lost a total of seven DropShips plus a combined arms regiment, a Battlemech battalion, two vehicle battalions, and several smaller units. Their most recent move has been to relocate their forward operating base from Griffin IV to Griffin V, and to expand it into a permanent garrison with a labor force of several thousand slaves."

[X] Agree - Happy Heir, deliriously happy public, some in the nobility might get their noses bent out of joint.

...But first, the Test Of Character! (ahem. where's my purple pen?)

Presenting... The Lady and The Tiger

To set the scene: the Brave Young Lady Alita, standing next to her True Love, Prince Jeremy, is standing before her Dread Monarch, to ask permission to Wed. The Fearsome Queen, although her physical stature is tiny compared to the Sleepy-Eyed Tiger beside her, is by far the more Terrifying of the Two. Alita visibly gathers her Courage, and begins to speak:

"I love Jeremy, and he loves me, and we'd liketogetmarriedplease!" Perhaps not the most Dignified of requests, especially with the Increase of Speed of her speech at the end, but only the Deaf would be unable to tell it Truly was a Heartfelt Request. And while, as a Woman, her sympathies were pulled upon, as a Mother and a Queen, she must Continue with her Duty.

"There is one thing that must happen first," the Dread Queen declaimed. "Close your eyes."

Having but one idea of what was to come, Alita complied quickly, Sealing Fast her eyelids.

The Queen gestured to her Feline Companion, who yawned, exposing a Terrible Maw, and then padded forward. Sniffing at the Young Lady's hair, Sekhmet paced around the Girl. Opening her mouth a second time, the Titanic Tiger leaned forward...

And bestowed the Lick of Approval. And a Tiny (for a Grifftiger) Nudge.

"Eeew, Sekhmet! Now we're both covered in slobber!" The Queen and her Conspirator grinned at each other.

(I have no idea why this came out in Excessively Purple Prose, but it did. I'm not sorry.)

Michal sat there shivered and sneezed in their little court room as the man was brought before him he glared at the wretched man he had been one of their number who had sold his soul to the Dragon and had collaborated with the guard and sold out many amongst the prisoners the had been how Emil had met his end. They would not have known except for young Leopold who had been one of the watchers for this sort of thing.

"The court has heard your evidence against you," Michal said, "as a representative of the Armia Krajow I hereby sentence you death for the act of high treason against the people of Nowa Warszawa Sergeant Rowecki escort him out of the court and execute the sentence."

"Yes sir," said the sort man with the heavily scarred face and motioned to two of the burly men.

The man kicked and screamed as he was dragged out by the men and Rowecki had his shiv in hand.

Michal sighed and looked to the other two members of the court one a young woman who face was so cold it might have been carved of ice for how cold she looked and would have been called striking if her nose was not missing due to frostbite. The other man was an old man bent with age but his eyes were cunning Old Leopold was one of the old mayors who had stood against the Dracs and paid for it in blood and his family and the Dracs seeing no threat or use for the man had tossed him in a cell.

Misha and Old Leopold spoke with authority for a lot of people and there was him he was one of the volunteers of the Armia Krajow and leader of his small platoon who had volunteered to get taken and join the prison convoy to find where the bastard dracs were taking their people.

They had found hell in this place at first several of his Platoon had died even though they were inured to the conditions they still suffered and did what they could to gather intelligence on the place they were in. To have people fighting and fighting so well against the Dracs if the rumours the had heard from several careless camp guards they doing well if they were to be believed.

"That is the last traitor for the day," Michal said looking at Misha and Old Leopold, "We should call the session today tomorrow we have to deal with more."

Old Leopold nodded, "How is that snake you found," the old man asked a cold smile on his face.

Michal snorted, "We have him kept in the same 'luxury' we enjoyed in the desert, he curses and says the Dragon will burn us but Corporal Pilecki is showing him that will not be the case."

"Good," said Misha, "Bastards must pay I have spoken with the others and we are searching for the rest they will not hide."

"Yes they will pay," Michal said, "any way we have shelter and food we can hold out until the people of this system come to us."

"At least we don't lack for water," Misha said with a chuckle, "Tell me Michal who goes the training of the militia?"

"About as can be expected they are a small force we only have weapons we can improvise," He said, "we can keep the peace but if anyone lands with any hardware we cannot do anything, however, the members of the Armia Krajow we will continue to do our duty whatever the cost. Zrzeszenie Wolność i Niezawisłość dla Nowa Warszawa."

"Zrzeszenie Wolność i Niezawisłość dla Nowa Warszawa," they both replied.

He stood, "I'm going to check the training of the militia under Pavel see if any need any motivation and walk the perimeter."

Misha stood, "I will tag along it is on the way to the women hospital."

He grimaced a lot of those women were psychological case's in there as well as the horrors of this planet the Drac soldiers were animals.

"I'm going to rest my old bones," Leopold said, "then I may walk to the cooks and get some soup."

"Enjoy your soup old man see you tomorrow," Michal said and waved as they left.

Michal and Misha put on their thick coats and walked outside.

They walked through the Ice wrapped up against the cold as they made their way through the blocky building the ice crunching beneath their feet. They passed the others they were all a mixed batch but all had been dragged her by the damned Dragon.

    "Michal?" Misha asked.

"Yes?" Michal said looking at her with the crude scarf around her face.

"What do you think the people of this system are like," Misha said, "according to the stories the Old Land was full of many different people who do you think they were."

"I have no idea," Michal said, "But if they give the Dracs pause then they must be strong."

"Yes," Misha said, "Though given what I heard of this treaty and the lack of a Jumpship they won't be able to do anything for Nowa Warszawa."

"For now," Michal said, "Though the future holds promise at the very least."

"Yes," Misha said they walked on in silence and then she asked, "what did you do before the Dracs came?"

He paused that took him by surprised they had worked together in the camp but she had never asked about his life before in the camp you worked together but you did not dig too deep because you could die at any time or be taken by the Drac officers at any time.

"I taught elementary school," he said after a pause, "I did my time in the Wojska Lądowe and then left and became a teacher though I was a reservist. When the Dracs came I watched it all burn and have no idea how I got away."

He paused remembering the dark days of the invasion seeing his brothers and sisters in arms slaughtered by the Drac mechs he shook his head he still had no idea how he survived.

    "What about you?" Michal asked.

He eyes and face darkened, "I was a student studying history I joined a volunteer battalion but was taken early on by the Dracs one of their 'officers' took a liking to me. I refused he forced me repeatedly afterwards, he died a week later in an Armia Krajowa IED and I got sent here."

They walked in silence to the intersection he the reached out and hugged her, "You are not alone Misha."

She nodded and they split heading to their respective destinations.

The next day they recived word from Griffins Roost.

Michal sat back in his office chair going over the verdicts one last time they had finished the Trials for the collaborators the Court had pardoned some, others had been given limited sentences hard labour and confinement, though the rapists, the camp enforcers who work with the old Drac guard force, the traitors who sold people out and lived like kings and the other scum of the Earth had been executed.

They may have been slaves and abused by their jailers but, they were not animals and, he and the platoon who had come him were still members of the Armia Krajow they would not stoop to the level of mob justice if they could help it, that would bring them down to the level of the Dracs. Thankfully they had been able to with Misha, Old Leopold and his son Young Leopold groups help keep the collaborators from being strung up though it had been touch and go and he and his men had to break more than a few heads to stop people shanking them in their holding area.

There was a murmur of conversation as the door opened and, Sergeant Rowecki came in grinning like a schoolboy, "Their here Sev just took a call from the incoming on their ship the USS Harris they are almost on final approach."

"Let's go and meet them, Sergeant then," Michal said, "You informed Misha and Old Leopold about the incoming dropship?"

"Yes," Rowecki said, "As per standing orders I assembled a guard force from the militia to hold people along with a platoon to help distribute the supplies as well as an honour guard to greet them."

"Good job, Sergeant," Michal said with a small smile, "We've come up in the world."

They'd managed to throw together including his Platoon about a reinforced company of militia to keep the peace and generally support the people of their little colony they had no uniform but, they had managed to secure an armband with the symbol of the Armia Krajowa. So far they had done well in their training that his men had given but, they were no Winged Hussar Regiment he'd gone from a Podporucznik post to a Kapitan post and Rowecki is now in a Starszy Chorąży post.

"yes sir," Rowecki said, rubbing his face, "oh we identified another infiltrator."

"Let me guess he didn't speak polish," Michal said with a grimace.

"No, sir," Rowecki said, "bastards were arrogant thinking we wouldn't find them we made them say w Szczebrzeszynie chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie along with the other phrase."

"We probably missed more than a few," Michal said, "but I'm sure this Kingdom will do there own sweep and turn up some more have the troopers keep looking."

    "yes sir

They arrived in time and stood there and watched the dropship burn down just where Dracs used to come down. Michal stood on his right was Old Leopold, and his son both had tears in their eyes, He stood there with Rowecki in the centre and on his right stood Misha and Katlyn her aide who had been a doctor and had been working miracles with the limited resources the Dracs had left them.

Around there little leadership cadre was the honour guard his own platoon with editions from the best of their little militia as others had been made brevet lieutenants and Sergeants fill command and training positions.

As the backwash from the thruster finished, and the ramp came down, they saw a party with its own all heavily armed. They moved to meet them as he heard Rowecki calling out commands as if they were on a peacetime drill ground over the ice field keeping pace with the leadership cadre.

The stopped in front of the heavily armed group who paused for a moment, and Rowecki called out, "Parde by the front Salute."

His old platoon stopped and with a precision that would have done a training sergeant proud delivered a crisp salute.

"I greet you in the name of the Armia Karjow of Nowa Warszawa," Michal said and saluted, "I am Lieutenant Michal Sikorski commander of the local Armia Karjow and my aid Sergeant Rowecki."

Michal indicated the still crying Leopold who was unable to speak, "this is Leopold Chrusciel representative of labours and in charge of labour, supply and distribution and his Young Leopold who acts as his aide."

Misha then took over introducing herself, "I am Misha Fieldorf I represent the women and medical concerns of our people. This is my aide, Doctor Katlyn."

The other man nodded, and the in flawless polish said, "I am Jake Mroczkiewicz Advisor to Her Majesty and representatives of Griffins Roost I have supplies and medical staff onboard tell me where you need them to go, and we will start with your people distributing them after that we can sit down and have a talk."

Michal smiled and said, "Of course we have a meeting room already set up."

A View From the Ice Part 4

Michal, Misha and Old Leopold sat in the corner of the bar as people moved around them celebrating just to be alive and free again with both former prisoners and people from Griffins Roost drinking, dancing and talking together like old friends.

The Dracs had gone they were getting the tendons and bones of civilisation set up as former prisoners, and their new allies worked in the snow and ice to get new generators set up, better-insulated shelters set up, roads and all other such infrastructure to ensure they could survive and thrive here. The food they had sent along with other goods had proved to be mana from the heavens they had even sent chocolate which they had seen given to the young children of the former camp first.

To see their eyes light up as they got the old luxury had warmed many a heart.

Things had been going very well they'd even after a debate and a vote on it the former prison camp had its name changed to something more fitting to remind them of home.

Old Leopold stood, and the whole room went silent as they waited on the old man's next words.

"To the people of NowY Gdańsk and our new friends," Old Leopold said, "May the dreams of our people never die! Twoje zdrowie!"

"Twoje zdrowie!" the whole taproom yelled and downed their drinks.

The Old Leopold sat heavily down and looked over at his son chatting to one of the soldiers who came from Griffins Roost with a smile on his face.

He then looked back at them and said, "I'm glad the Koszmar is over, and my son is healthy," the smile fell from his face, "we must prepare though for their return and retaking our homeland according to Jake we have time, but they could break the ceasefire if they so wished."

"Yes," Misha said with a smile at the old man, "we must prepare, but for now we let our people celebrate they have suffered much they have earned this moment of happiness."

Michal nodded at her and grinned, "They have, but we have come out of it stronger we will rebuild, and we will go back and liberate our people. Zrzeszenie Wolność I Niezawisłoś."

    ----

The next day all three of them stood out on the cleared area they were using as a rough Dropport with ground crews made up of Armia Keajowa and ground crews of AFGR. They stood with Michals old platoon awaiting their important guests. Around the perimeter stood the rest of the Armia Keajowa keeping an eye on the crowd with infantry from AFGR assisting them in holding back the crowd that had gathered.

Michal sent a silent thank you to an old seamstress, and several tailors had managed to throw together what looked like the old winter uniform of the Nowa Warszawa. Though, with the Armia Keajowa symbol in place of the Nowa Warszawa flag for the Armia Keajowa forces they had trained up, it made them feel more like a military unit than a scratch militia.

"Can't believe they are sending them to us," Young Leopold said he looked to his father, "We believe we got all the snake scum, but there could always have been one who slipped through the cracks."

"Yes that is why we aren't taking any chances," Old Leopold said as he scanned the drop field waiting for the incoming dropship, "never expected to be getting royal visitors so soon."

"Aye," said Michal, "I put the Armia Keajowa on alert and spoke to Major Park of the AFGR were coordinating with them for the drop though they don't seem to bothered."

"Looks the way, sir," said Sierżant Rowecki, "whatever they must be brought for an escort must make any assassination laughable wish we could get some guns off them I miss my old Grot Rifle and if the dracs comeback I'd rather be able to shoot back even if it doesn't do any good against their walkers."

    "Same Sierżant," said Michal.

"Whatever the case," Misha said, looking over at Katlyn, "they re bring more medical equipment and medicine we need we are still having people go down from frostbite."

Katlyn nodded, "Not as many as we did at the start of the nightmare and their doctors have been miracle workers but...." she looked at Misha's scared face.

"you'd rather have more than less," Old Leopold said, "given the situation, I can't blame you."

It was then they saw the dropship burners cutting through the atmosphere decelerating it and landing on the landing field steam rising around as the flame melted snow that had blown onto the cleared runway.

Steam rose and as the burners cutout and the Dropship settled the was USS Enterprise the first dropship of Griffins Roost along with HMS Hariss. Each of the leaders and their aides wondered if the Dracs never came how long it would have been till Nowa Warszawa built something like the Enterprise.

The door opened on the Harris, and Michal felt his hand twitch to a non-existent pistol at his side, and he heard Old Leopold and his son curse. He also felt Rowecki and Misha tense, ready for violence or to run.

However, what he heard from Katlyn shocked him, "oh, they are absolutely adorable."

That brought involuntary laughter from everyone, as they looked to see what could only be described absolutely massive black tigers with glowing blue stripes.

Michals eyes narrow as he saw them scanning around obvious threats as they spread out into the snow. It was then the doors of the enterprise open and out came their two royal visitors with the Tiger in-between them and their more human bodyguards.

They walked forward the rest of Michal's old platoon following behind them nervously as they made their way behind them. The tigers zeroed in on the group moving up towards them.

"Damn," said Rowecki, "they are bigger than I expected."

"Intelligent too," said Misha, "if the what the Grifs told us is right."

"That to ma'am," Rowecki said glancing at the closet Tiger, "still I would not want to get on the wrong side of them."

They reached the people who just got off the dropship, "your grace's welcome to Nova Gdansk."

"Nice to finally visit," Willis said, "I've only spoken with your people through vid messages, this is my daughter Sarah who is currently studying history."

"Nice to meet you all, Sarah," said smiling at them.

"And this is Bastet," said Sarah, "unfortunately her board isn't configured for Polish."

Bastet eyed the small crowd chuffed in acknowledgement then went and licked all the Nova Gdansk party causing the two Royals to smile.

"It's a sign Bastet likes you all," Sarah said.

"Pleasure to meet you all," said Michal, "As you know I'm Michal head of the Armia Keajowa with my aide Sierżant Rowecki," pointing at his old friend, "To my right is Old and Young Leopold's who presentative of labours and in charge of labour, supply and distribution."

He then looks over at Misha and Katlyn, "this is Misha and Katlyn they represent the women and medical concerns of our people."

They went wrong shaking hands and in Katlyn case tentatively patting then hugging Bastet.

"She has always had a soft spot for cats," Misha said, "We best get into the meeting room."

As they walked towards the meeting room, they saw Sarah and Bastet run a bit ahead of them playing the snow with some of the other tigers bringing a smile to everyone's face.

    ----
They were in a meeting room which they used for the business of running NowY Gdańsk. Mainly because the doors were wide enough to let Basset in without much difficulty. A small pot of tea had been laid out, and everyone gratefully took a mug and sat down.

When Misha took her muff off, he could see Sarah start a little at her scared face, but she hid her reaction quickly.

After some small talk, Willis said, "anyway thought it would be best if one of us Royals came up here as the process of establishing formal relations with you and Sarah and Bastet tagged along to see the snow."

That drew a chuckle from old Leopold, "and play in it with the other Tigers if their antics on the way here are anything to go by."

That made everyone laugh and Willis said, "I guess they wanted to have fun they are also here to help with security since we thought battlemechs would be impolitic."

"Yes, I imagine they would," Misha said with a small smile, "Still we are glad for the extra security amongst other things."

"Emm," Sarah said and looked around the table, "can I ask a question?"

"What is it, child?" asked Misha as she looked over to the seat Katlyn had taken and was quietly cooing over basset.

"What's your world like?" Sarah asked, "NowA Warszawa?"

Misha looked to Michal and Old Leapold who smiled at her and then she said, "It is a cold but beautiful world it is in the ideal zone for human life but much colder than the old homeworld, our people are descendants of those who were cast out by the Terran Alliance and sailed the stars until we found a world like our old home country. She has one large continent Warsaw with two smaller sister Krakow and Witold and several large archipelagos of islands." Misha smiled, "her climate is cool as I said with various mammals that evolved they're like the Mężczyzna Wilk which can be a hostile predator though some have been tamed and used like dogs."

"You and Misha have something in common she studied the history of NowA Warszawa," said Michal with a smile, "she can talk your ear off later if you like."

    Sarah smiled, "I'd love that."

"As would I," Misha said with a smile at the younger girl.

Willis then cleared his throat, "I'd hate to ask this but how did your world fall to the Drac's we need to know what it's like so when we go back out we can help you."

All of them looked to Michal who clenched his fist sighed, "that is a hard topic for most of us, but you need to understand something first."

He leant back looking Willis dead in the eye, "We aren't like Griffins Roost," Michal said, "We lost a lot of technology from before we were cast out we had only recently regained space flight before the Dracs came and were sending shuttles into space and are armour was mainly conventional aircraft and tanks with a lot of infantry."

Then he closed his eyes, and he was back there in the chaos remembering the smells as crews cooked inside their Grom tanks and the screams as his fellow soldiers fought hard but died against a threat they never had in the wildest dreams thought to face and the screams of the civilians as they fled or were crushed on the dracs.

What was even worse when the Dracs aerospace fighters had dropped incendiaries into the mass he shudders as he hears their screams all over again. Then he is pulled out of it feels and hand on his shoulder and opens his eyes, seeing Misha beside him.

He rests his hand on hers, "Forgive me those mroczny dni still haunts me."

"It's alright," Willis said, and Michal nodded.

"To continue," Michal said forcing down the old wounds, "they landed we tried to fight back, but it was a blood bath they rolled over the Winged Hussar formations sent to meet them and burned into our cities slaughtering our forces where they attempted to fight back and eventually overwhelmed the assembly and claimed victory all in almost a week of fighting."

    "My God," Willis said.

"But we refuse to die easily," Michal said with a cold smile, "like our ancestors, we formed the Armia Keajow and have been fighting back with mainly improvised weapons, irregular warfare, IED and refusing to give up and die for those bastards, we have been giving them a hard fight, or so it was when I left."

"Could they still be fighting," Sarah asked.

"More than likely," Misha said, "we will continue to fight they will not crush us like maggots, and we will gut them whenever and where ever we can."

"Yes," Michal said, "and hopefully in time we will push them out of our homeworld and liberate our people."

A View From the Ice Part 5

In the cold tundra, several groups of men and women in the uniform of Armia Krajowa as they ran through the snow their sierżants and kaprals calling cadence as they ran.

"Come on," yelled a younger Sierżant, "my babcia could run this faster than you, and she was blind and had one leg!" As he ran past one of the groups.

Michal jogged along with the lead platoon he did this every so often to keep up his conditioning and to train with the soldiers. The emergency council had finally dissolved, and a more permanent one had been assembled by vote of the other residents of Nowy Gdańsk.

Old Leopold had taken over his role as head of the council and many of his old diplomatic duties and was welcome to his role. his son Young Leopold had become councillor of the interior, with Doctor Katlyn becoming head of medicine, Misha got a promotion to help run counterintelligence, and he had gotten made the local commander for the Armia Krajowa. They had also confirmed the rank of Kapitan on him and given Rowecki the rank of Starszy Chorąży. They had found the head of Justice and courts in the form of Andrey who had been an MP and aspiring lawyer back on NowA Warszawa and fit the role perfectly.

They crested the rise and started to run back down to run down to Camp Mocny the main base of the Armia Krajowa on the world. He had a meeting with Major Park this afternoon to talk about some development on Griffins Roost that may interest the Armia Krajowa. He grinned as he saw another supply dropper coming they had been coming in thick and fast recently the supplies they were bringing in where helping majorly in both keeping everyone fed and health as well as the build-up of Nowy Gdansk infrastructure they now had a fully equipped hospital with things they could only dream of on NowA Warszawa he’d seen Katlyn cry at all the medical knowledge, treatments and drugs she now had access to. She was burning the midnight oil trying to catch up with all the medical knowledge the Grifs had gathered over the year in between playing with the tigers and working.

He grinned the tigers loved the snow they seemed to be addicted to playing in the white stuff much like the Royal child and her companion. The children of Nowy Gdańsk loved the tigers and the tigers, for the most part, loved playing with the children it warmed many a heart seeing the children play with the massive cats. He had even seen them help one of the small children who took a nasty tumble and carried them to a small Armia Krajowa post where they got aid while the tiger comforted them with many a lick.

They ran through the gate shortly after and the sierżants and kaprals moved them off and had them fall in and then dismissed them as Michal moved into his office Rowecki was currently working with supply about getting caches of supplies set up encase Griffins Roost ran into trouble or was attacked.

He sighed and walked into the office he had paperwork to do and hoped that he could make a significant dent in it.

    ---

He walked int Major Kim Park stood as Michal entered his spartan office and walked over to him Park was a younger man with Asiatic features and a shock of red hair.

“Hey Michal,” said park with a grin offering his hand, “how are you doing today? Your usual run go well?”

“Yes went well thanks for asking,” Michal said taking his hand with a smile at the younger man, “how are my boys doing working with your people in patrolling Nowy Gdansk and other duties.”

“They are getting on well,” Park said as they both got to the chairs in the office, “hell half of them spend their time trading tips on fighting my boys and girls have been taking notes, and some of them are a bit scared of some of them.”

“Let me guess Porucznik Jakub?” Michal asked referring to one of the former resistance scouts sierżant who he was sure was a former Cichociemni.

“Yes,” said Park with a nod, “I walked Man was explaining how to rig a man killing trap with an old mess tin and some rubber bands, and my scout teams were taking notes.”

“He does that have that effect,” Michal said sardonically, “Any way you wanted to talk to me about some development?”

“Yes,” Park replied, crossing his arms, “High Com and the Queen's council have been talking about equipping the Armia Krajowa with the same loadout as an AFGR infantry company.”

Michal leaned forward his eye intent and asked, “Really?”

“It’s been floated around, and the General cleared me to let you know it’s been discussed,” Park said, “we’d been looking at pulse laser rifles, man-pack PPCs and Support Lasers as well as manpack SRMS.”

“Could my men and myself get a look at some of the weapons manuals under your people’s supervision, of course? As well as some skill at arms training with the systems if possible?” asked Michal, “if we are going to get equipped, we need to know as much as possible and get training on their maintenance and operation.”

“I’ll see what I can do,” Park said, “I’ll have to kick it up the chain, but I can’t see the General having any problem with it.”

“Thank you,” Michal said, “Anything else?”

“Yes, one thing the queen son came up with a design I think you would like,” Park said with a smile and grabbed a folder off the table and showed him a picture and data print out of a mini-mech with classic cavalry sabres, “it’s called the Winged Hussar it’s an ultralight mech originally intended for infantry support.”

He took the picture and looked at it, “interesting,” Michal said, “could be useful as a scout and against infantry maybe law enforcement and guerrilla operations. It's fast enough it could easily move out after wiping the floor with infantry and light vehicles and as a spotter if what I am reading is correct about this TAG.”

He then smiled, “I also like the additions of the swords, and the speed would be very useful in cutting through unprepared opponents.”

“Can you think of anyone who would be willing to pilot it?” asked Park.

Michal lent back, “I can think of a few give me a day to speak to them, though I think if possible it would be interesting if we could equip it with some enlarged infantry weapons would make it more versatile.”

“I’ll look into it,” Park said, “How are things going with the new council?”

“Well,” Michal said, “Nice to be out of the head of it and Old Leopold has been doing well, hell we are already talking about setting up a Sejim for the city.”

“Good,” said Park, “How are things with Misha?”

“They are going well,” Michal said, “we have been taking it slow as you suggested we both have scars we need to deal with.”

“I know,” Park said as they both stood, “Anyway I’ll see you at the bar later.”

    ---

He arrived at the bar with Misha later they had really hit it off recently there was a mutual attraction, and they had been slowly working on building up their relationship they both had been too damaged by their experiences that they were too afraid originally of becoming close but only to have the other snatched away. Only with the encouragement of the other lead by Park had they started a serious relationship, but it was slow going.

As they entered the bar, he smiled as he looked at Mish who smiled back, aside from Misha’s role on the council she had made an effort to both writing down and collect from others the history of their old world to make sure it wasn’t lost as well as helping out where she could.

They look at the bar and see everyone in the bar looking at the TV including park a lot of people have tears running down their face other smiling. He and Misha look at the TV, and he felt his eyes being to water as Misha squeezes his hand.

The statue of a freed Polish resistance fighter, broken shackles on his wrists and a rifle in his hands, standing with one foot pressed down on the severed tail of a dragon and in a quite determined and heroic pose. Well, that explained why those aid workers were taking pictures of Szeregowy Igor you could.

It was then the party for that evening in celebration of their new brothers in arms on Griffins Roost gift to them.
