Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

I'm willing to bet that even in "victory" the russians will take losses, at least if they actually advance into the city.

Artillery is a bitch and russia doesn't have the airpower to make such tactics not doable.
What are you talking about? Ukraine has been widely and openly desperately low on artillery ammunition for months. There have been easily a dozen articles talking it about the last couple of months.

In terms of air, well Ukraine basically doesn't have anything other then cruise missile delivery platforms and Russia dropped hundreds of imitationJDAMs on the city in the last month. The endless rain of bombs is likely what broke the grinding stalemate.

The nation with the larger population can pull from minority groups.
The nation fighting for its life with a smaller population is needing all the manpower it can get.
War. What did you expect?
Yes you're making my point for me. Russia is sending random minorities and low caste people still, while Ukraine is down to drafting 40 year Olds and pulling manpower from anywhere they can get it. Because they are losing.

Russia has the numbers to keep doing this. Even if they're losing more than Ukraine, Ukraine just doesn't have as many to lose.

One side is conscripting old men and cripples while sending women to the tenches. It's not Russia.
Ukraine avoids conscription of men younger than 27. They prefer men with more experience and calmer dispositions. The side conscripting cripples are Russians. Those who can't fight on the front lines are moved to rear echelon positions or if they are fit enough to artillery and vehicle crews.

The Russians don't care. I've seen actual old people who need air tanks issued riffles and dropped off in the trenches. There is a difference Chica.

They don't.

They really fucking don't.

Russia's greatest trick was convincing the world that it was still a premier power, but the sad truth is it is a burned out wreck of what it once was. It does not have the resources of the Old Empire, let alone the USSR, but it tries to fight like it is. This is a recipe for utter disaster.

Seeing as those same minorities are now in active rebellion at the moment and the Russians are having to deploy tens of thousands to each city to suppress the fighting. How long can they fight on two fronts? Especially as Ukrainian sabotage has destroyed the only rail trunk past Lake Baikal and collapsed the tunnel a mile inside the mountain?

If China had actual soldiers they could move in now with the Russian Far East cut off from Moscow and supplies.

Low and desperate doesn't mean none. Not that russia will go into the city, if they're intelligent, because that's a recipe for getting one's shit pushed in once you become bogged down in constant guerilla warfare and artillery bombardment while... not actually being that important in the grand scheme of things.

You clear out cities because they're good defensive holds that, if you try to go around, will disgorge soldiers to fuck your ass. A competent commander makes sure that threat is eliminated by breaking the city itself, then encircling it to cut off food supplies, and then moving on once the resistance stops.

If Russia has learned anything at all since the war began, that's what they're going to do. If they haven't learned that lesson then they'll get fucked for it.

What people forget is Russia cannot really maintain it's own oil infrastructure and relied on Western expertise to keep it's oil pipelines and such inspected and up to snuff maintenance wise.

Ukraine has already been whacking oil refineries, storage depots, and terminals in western Russia with regularity, have been removing the Russian Black Sea Fleet as a threat ship-by-ship despite having no real navy of their own, and using the Patriot system to keep their cities from being constantly bombarded, even if the frontline is harder to protect all the time.

Ukraine needs Patriot systems, artillery shells, drone components, and the gear to let them kill Russian's without putting as many infantry directly in harms way.

I think this war will end with Putin's end, and that deep strikes into Russia itself and the sabotage campaign are give Ukraine long term leverage, and the Ukrainian military that emerges from this war with be a security exporter when it comes to drones and expertise in using them.

Russia does not have the tech to refine oil past low crude heating oil and something that barely qualifies as diesel from their Soviet Era refineries. When the Union collapsed the Russian government decided it was too expensive to develop modern fuel refining. So they went to the Western Conglomerate that owns the patents for the 200 processes that is needed to turn crude oil into modern fuel. They paid for Western machines and Western engineers and technicians to rebuild Russia's oil industry.

Those Western technicians and Western parts haven't serviced that infrastructure since the invasion and tighter sanctions. They deleted what proprietary software they could and locked down what they couldn't when they left. Outside Russia proper the infrastructure has already broken or are breaking. Moscow Oblast itself just lost half its refinery capacity from the drone attacks in the last two days. They deny it but it's hard to belive them with all the videos of a massive explosion and ongoing fire from the refinery complex

Ukraine successfully retreated from Avdiivka. Downing three Russian fighters today going by their satellite signals terminating above Avdiivka at the same time the Patriot battery west of Avdiivka opened fire.

So that's three fighters and 666 armored vehicles and near on ten thousand casualties over two years. In exchange for 57 Ukrainian armored vehicles, around 4000 Ukrainian casualties(most of them should recover with Western medicine and doctors) and Avdiivka. :ROFLMAO: the incompetence of vatniks never fails to surprise me. They get lower and lower,

Russia refuses to return Navalny to his family adamantly claiming he died due to a brain aneurysm caused by a blood clot. Despite not performing an autopsy. Yeah. This was a murder.

Oh apparently it's now Sudden Death Syndrome... that doesn't exist in modern medicine it hasn't been used since 1900.

Tens of thousands of Russians started bringing flowers to the Monuments to Victims of Political Oppression two days ago. The authorities were unprepared and did nothing. Yesterday they blocked off the monuments declaring construction work or terrorist threats. People kept coming.
This morning they started attacking mourners. Shooting, beating and arresting them. The people keep coming in nonviolent protest. The dream of Russia leaving the Old Ways behind died with Navalny.
