It's almost like the Ukrainians don't want to be rolled over by Russia, and are willing to die to keep it from happening. Even if Ukraine was a somehow fabricated nation (which it isn't), the people who inhabit it have clearly decided that they like being a separate nation from Russia, and want to keep it that way.

That enough people share the perception of Ukraine as it's own country to fight and die for it tells me it's a "real" country, and that they're better than holding their own in an undeclared war and effectively surprise attack from such a "hugely superior" country as Russia, who once guaranteed their safety tells me they're worth being allies with.

Yes,ukrainian nationality was invented by austrian after 1866 to counter poles.
So? russians was genocided or turned into soviet people after 1917,and modern russian nation was made by colonel Putin after 1999.
If ukrainians have no right to their own state,that so called russians even more.

I am talking about the EU, but yeah, when you mention it I wouldn't mind restoring the old Bulgarian and proto-Bulgar empires in one entity:

Look at the map, the "Ukrainian identity" should be limited to a smaller, land-locked country, it frankly morphed into a Gallician identity and now those Gallicians want all of the former Ukrainian SSR, despite the Russians in those lands having a better claim and comprising over half the population.
Where is their right to an identity?

I never said Ukraine is part of NATO, or that they are wrong to defend thier homes.

What I said was that NATO effectively uses the threat of nuclear annihilation of the US populace in order to get the US to defend chunks of Europe, and that many Euro's in NATO have gotten very used to the idea that they do not need to spend much money to protect themselves, because they can just used NATO membership to use the US populace as a giant human shield and the US military as thier own security force they don't have to pay for.

I also did not forget how this whole shit show in Ukraine started, and the West was not innocent in that.
