Russia-Ukraine War Political Discussion

Russian propaganda. It is Putin who is moving the world closer to nuclear war.
…you didn’t watch the video did you?
The video is bitching about this.

Finland has indicated it is ok with hosting nukes when let into NATO.

Personally I find this a great thing; the Russians have a cultural fear and respect of the Finns. Showing Russia people aren't going to back down to them anymore is exactly what we need right now.

Russia is on track to turn into a continent size North Korea in the realtively near future, best to be getting ready to enforce NATO borders with lethal force if/when Russia lashes out after it loses in Ukraine. Nukes in Finland also means holding Russia's Barent Sea bases/Murmansk at immediate risk, if they decided to try to punch a corridor to Kaliningrad.

There is no negotiating with Putin's Russia in good faith anymore, only deterring them or destroying their assets when the attempt to invade neighboring nations. Stopping Russia from taking and keeping any of Ukraine is the only way to deter the Russian's from trying this shit again elsewhere. Nukes in Finland help up the pressure on the Russian oligarchs to either fix shit at home, or die with the tyrant in control of the regime.

Telegram is now blocked in Russia; things must be really bad for them to take this step.

Someone leaked an internal memo from the Butcher's command staff about casualties in front units. Soldiers are openly spilling operational plans on Telegram. Some of them warcrimes. Of course they'd block it. Telegram was open access to Russian operations.

Won't help much most Russians have VPNs and alternate accounts in the Georgian and Baltic States Telegram competitors.

Finland's main forces are oriented for an attack on the Kola peninsula. So if Russia actually attacks they'll lose the ability to launch their static ICBM silos within two hours. 90 percent of the Soviet era launchers in Russian control are on Kola. Along with the main base of the Russian Atlantic Fleet. It is supplied by a single double track of railroad and not much else. They kept it an undeveloped taiga for security.

One railway 30 km from the Finnish border. That naval base 120 km from the Finnish border which happens to have a large base of Jaegers, IFVs and tanks who've been training for that attack since the 50s. The Finns really hate Russians.

Every Finnish base is built for nuclear war. The important shit is underground inside lead shielded reinforced tunnels and bunkers. There are enough access points that the surface can be evacuated into the bunkers within five minutes. Ready to roll out in NBC gear and sealed vehicles after the blast settles.

Every city mandates enough bunkers for their population. Every new underground construction is built so as to be able to serve as reinforced fallout shelters. Wherever you are in Finland's larger settlements there is a fallout shelter access within 300 meters of you. The Finns have never let their guard down since achieving independence from Russia

Swedes and Finns will usually beat each other bloody, but throw a Russian in there and they'll fight the Russian instead.

I disagree with you. I don't think that countries deserve nukes on their borders. The US didn't deserve Soviet nukes in Cuba, the USSR didn't deserve US nukes in Turkey, and Russia doesn't deserve US nukes in Finland. What I do think would be a good deal would be the US agreeing not to place nukes in any countries that border Russia in exchange to Russia ending its opposition to Ukrainian, Georgian, et cetera NATO membership and also completely pulling out of Ukraine.

See, this assumes you can negotiate with good faith with Putin's Russia.

The last 8 months have shown you cannot, and should not even try to, negotiate with Russia anymore, unless you have a metaphorical gun to their head.

Not happening without a total destruction and rebuilding of Russia. Russia as it is, and has been for centuries now cannot be trusted. Russky Mir, as with Zhongguo considers everyone else as lesser and must be dominated. You can't make a deal with such an ideology. Putin is merely the latest of a history of Russian strongmen since the first Tsar successfully carried out a coup against Ruthenia.

Well, I still want to reduce the risk of nuclear war while still ensuring that Russia gets as much of a drubbing in Ukraine as possible. I want Russia kicked out of Ukraine but without this sparking a nuclear war in the process. Hence me opposing placing US nukes in Finland. Placing a small number of US troops in Finland could perhaps be acceptable, however.

The best way to avert nuclear war is by not letting Russia's fears/bluster dictate the West's actions anymore, and show them that we are ready to end their nation tomorrow if the Kremlin decides to go after NATO. There are Russian nukes on Finland's border, why shouldn't they have nukes to counter?

Playing nice with Russia doesn't work anymore, the only thing Putin's Russia respects is strength and the will to use it.
Where does Russia have nukes near the Finnish borders? And at least Finland is getting into NATO.
The Naval Bases on the Kola Pennisula, including their main Naval Spy base, and Boomer pens.

People keep on saying that but...
Did I miss putin breaking some treaties somewhere?

invading a country != cannot be negotiated with.
imperialistic != cannot be negotiated with.
war crimes != cannot be negotiated with.

As for "Putin will just rebuild his army then invade again in the future".
It will take at least a decade considering how fucked their economy and military is.
Putin is old and is just getting older.
A peace treaty now will probably see him dying of old age while he is rebuilding.

And thus nuclear war gets averted

Interesting approach. Would you also advocate placing US nukes in the Baltics? What about in Ukraine?

A peace treaty now allows him to use it as a way of declaring him winning, the west losing since they could not stop Russia and allowing other nuclear armed countries to go "Oh I can invade a country without nukes and no one will stop me".
There goes Taiwan and most of South East Asia. Bye bye no longer being reliant on China. Because guess who would then own the semi conductor industry?
Not the US.
It would also allow Russia to do what they did in 2014, and just put arty in the occupied areas, shoot at the Ukriniana and cry when shot back at.
Also ship the ukranians or kill them en mass so it is only Russians left

Baltic's/Poland getting nukes is fine by me; for many reasons.

1, Those nations know what it is like to be under the Commie boot, and will do anything to stay free.

2, The Baltics are actually showing their worth in aiding Ukraine.

3, Well...the more people willing to openly host US nukes meant to deter Russia means more targets the Russian's have to task their...questionable nuclear arsenal on, thus spreading their limited 'reliable' nukes over more targets. This leads to a greater chance of forcing Russia to back down, because their leadership will know they do not have enough 'good' nukes left to enforce MAD, even if they wanted to.

Ukraine...only after the war is over and rebuilding is finished, so we can be more sure the corruption has been routed out before our weapons would go there.

Yes, this is why Russia cannot be allowed to keep at the very least any of the territories that it conquered after February 23, 2022.

And you don't see Russia responding to any of this by placing its own nukes in Cuba and/or Venezuela?
