for the most part it has been. part of the McCarthy hold up was over this so some republicans hold enough of a belief over it to fight for it. how well that translates into action we won't find out till autumn since McConnel fucked us and passed an omnibus that funds the government till then.Is this really accurate? I don't see a sincere effort by the GOP to "Turn Off the Faucet". Most of them seem also content with the crazy spending. The debt ceiling drama strikes me as a fake dance they go thru just for their base

Republicans fight spending when dems are in control. Republicans spend like crazy when they're in control. It's accurate in that the only desire to stop the spending comes from the republican side...
...but the republican leadership has been quite content to talk a big game then immediately cave to increase spending and just not bring it up when they control things.

fall of rome without wifi would likely be worse. at least we have endless circuses and bread is still cheap. eggs are going up in price though.I really hate living during the Fall of Rome with Wi-Fi….

That would require people, in the aggregate, to be something other than lazy procrastinators.I think I’d rather have people taking action and more of a push towards fixing things then this sleepwalking to collapse.
I think DarthOne was pretty much just meming/shit posting on this one.We aren't Rome with Wi-fi, and continuing to compare the US to Rome is stupid and counterproductive to actually addressing the issues that face this nation.
We are in uncharted territory, we are facing much different conditions than Rome was, and frankly I feel like the obsessing over Rome is because people want to look for patterns in history so they can 'get ahead of the curve', while ignoring that the entire context between us and Rome is vastly different.
Stop looking for an American Caesar to save us, and stop expecting US history to just mimic Rome's history.
