Star Wars Star Wars Discussion Thread - LET THE PAST D-! Oh, wait, nevermind

I got to say, one of my real beef's with the new canon is how it changed Wedge's backstory 180 degrees.

His Legend's backstory was a lot cooler than what we saw in Rebels, where he was an Imperial pilot recruit who defects with Sabine's help.

Now that you mention it, I'm wondering if Disney changed it, just for the cheap thrill of featuring an Original Trilogy character in one of their shows? They're already the brilliant minds behind a subpar Sequel Trilogy, so I don't think they'd be above that.

Sure, but it's also just that these people actually believe they can write a better backstory. They genuinely think that whatever they come up with is an improvement.

I honestly think that was just “Oh, that’s cool, but we need a cheap thrill so…”. If this was in another piece, say a Book, or where they gave special focus, but nah, we have some filler to do. And so, Disney got their filler episode.

it is sad when fan project like this is seems have more talent than the freaking movies near unlimited funding.

Bucketheads: S1E1 Chapter 2 (OFFICIAL TRAILER) - YouTube

It's almost expected by this point. Only a bunch of dedicated fans not up to the eyes in dogma can dare portray the Empire in a competent and humanising light.

Edit: I loved seeing Stormies use actual small unit tactics and be threatening. I'm wondering if someone with military experience had a hand in making this. Either that, or they did their research.

So I have a question I've never found a good answer to: did Vader know about Palp's clones on Byss or about Mount Tantiss?

I've looked over a lot of lore vids, but no one's seemed to have addressed this question.

Not gonna bullshit, I'm asking this because I kinda stalled out on my own AU fic when I realized I could not answer this question, and I needed an answer to it before I could continue writing.

I don't think this is ever answered, but considering Palpy's motivations and other evidence (such as Thrawn knowing about Mount Tantiss, and evidently not knowing about Byss), I'd argue that Vader probably knew about Mount Tantiss, and probably didn't know about Byss.

Honestly? Darth Vader is the very last person I would expect Sheev to tell about Byss. Palpatine (for the most part rightfully) held himself to be a better plotter, better manipulator, and better force user than basically anyone else in the galaxy. Byss was not made for if he lived long enough to die of old age, he could have just squirreled away his cloning facilities somewhere in the Imperial Palace for that. Byss was hidden so well because it was a fallback plan in case he was assassinated, and imho Palpatine would only have one man in mind as to who would be the one to do it.

The moffs? He can literally read their minds, he's spent the last two decades playing with them like his toys. The Rebellion? A joke, to the point that he showed up at Endor primarily to gloat. A Jedi? Possible but unlikely. But Vader, on the other hand? A very real threat, provided he ever found something to light a fire under his semi-robotic ass.

Ok, how about Sate Pestage?

There's some evidence in Legends that the Pestage killed by Isard was a clone, and the real Pestage fled to the Deep Core/Byss some time after Endor, after activating said clone. A few panels in the Dark Empire series seem to show Pestage among Palp's inner circle there.

See now I totally buy that Pestage would know about it, for the simple fact that somebody would have to. Palpatine loved his intricate schemes too much for me to believe he'd leave the post-assassination trajectory of the Empire up to chance, and that means he'd need somebody acting as his proxy to make sure that nobody (coughVadercough) could stabilize things before the Reborn Emperor swooped in to do his dark messiah routine. Pestage had been acting as a loyal agent of the Sith since Plagueis was Master, and as far as I know never once waivered in his loyalty to Palpatine after he was originally swayed from Hego Damask's service.

Besides, Palpatine allowed him to handle much of the day to day running of the empire didn't he? Insofar as Palpatine could trust, I think he trusted Sate Pestage.
