This may be the ignorant-civilian and ignorant-of-Russian-industry in me, but...The Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Plant of Beriev was Struck by Ukrainian Drones. It services Russian strategic bombers and A-50 AEW Aircraft.
It's not that they had much of a choice. There are other aircraft plants in Russia, but they are equipped to service other aircraft model, it would be like sending a Porsche to be refurbished in a Mercedes factory. There's only one Beriev plant, and it's where it was since early Soviet Union, and doing this work anywhere else would essentially require moving the entire plant, WW2 style (which did happen in WW2), including massive costs and disruption of work, which obviously was not considered worthwhile for a mere 3 day special military operation. This may be the ignorant-civilian and ignorant-of-Russian-industry in me, but...
Russia is big. Some say really big. And I would presume they have aircraft plants amidst all that bigness that are further away from Ukraine than this one? Like...this is barely outside of Ukraine's pre-war Eastern border, and there's already been a handful of successful and who-knows-how-many unsuccessful instances of Ukraine yeeting drones that far or further to try and blow shit up. It seems like you'd be inclined to not do much basing or refitting or anything else there if you could avoid it.
It just seems a bit odd of Russian military commanders to make such a decision.
Suppose inertia/ignorance might be part of it, or just more sympathetically...limited number of areas specializing in that industry and such--not like the US or other countries are immune to that exact same thing even in peacetime after all. So, I suppose that decision being 'forced' on them more than anything is more likely than not.
Yep! Russia has a developed west, a few oases of civilization in Siberia and the wilderness between east and west, and a few cities and such on its east coast (e.g. Vladivostok) which the Chinese, being the Chinese, are subtly eying up (because China is China and "historical claims").Russia is big, but almost all of their industry is inEastWestern Russia. (sigh...stupid brain) Which happens to put it relatively close to Moscow and Ukraine.
Most of Russia is actually undeveloped.
Well who really cares about using boats to move stuff from place to place, something that old fashioned can't be that important.Article on how the presence of Ukrainian Maritime Drones Might've Turned Back Russian Supply Ships Returning from Syria. These two ships which are strongly suspected of transferring munitions from the Middle East to Russia, will now have to travel around Europe to the Baltic after turning around at the Bosphorous.
Another Russian vessel reportedly spotted the Ukrainian USV's that were on their way to strike the Missile Corvette sunk a week ago, only spotted the drones from about two miles away on radar and were even followed for a bit before the drones moved on.
I hope, that our soldiers would do the same.Poland need all of them here, especially when german agent Tusk is ruling again.Crosetto: “No ai militari in Ucraina, la Francia non parli per la Nato”

Italy's Defence Minister despite sending aid to the Ukraine refuses to send troops in the Ukraine. Most military men I know here in Italy probably would risk going to military court than facing the Russians and the Ukraine's Russians.
Probably a good thing for us Italians.
Same as previously most likely, with a bonus of making a bit of a shitshow for Putin's carefully planned reelection circus. One of the raiders even remarked that they are going to the election.Last time, it seemed it was basically just a distraction to get the Russians to shift their units elsewhere, as well as for morale purposes.
I wonder what their aim is this time?
