That's one way to deal with EWAR issues, but I cannot help but think it has a very limited usefulness if anything happens to the fiber optic 'cord'.

The British are certainly showing a commitment to stand firm, but they have left the EU.

The Germans, once the armoured heart of the continent, are now led by the likes of Scholz -- a man unwilling to even deliver Taurus missiles, in no small part because Germany has allowed its leftists to force a suicide pact upon its economy. They rejected nuclear and "went green". Which in practice means: they are dependent on foreign gas. Which in turn means: they're the weak link... the one that might bow over to Russia if the offer of cheap gas is ultimately good enough. At the very least, they're the player desperately trying to prevent any "escalation" at all costs.

And then there is France. Fifty-six blazing atomic reactors. They piss on Russia and its gas exports. They're also further away from Russia. Basically... they're in a good position to lead an anti-Russian European alliance. Looks like France is exploring the option of a geo-political comeback. There's no guarantee that it'll happen, but there is a realistic scenario where the centre of power in the EU shifts closer to Paris. And the French, having seen this, are making sure that if it happens, they're ready to make the most of it.

How positively Bonapartist of them!

This may be the ignorant-civilian and ignorant-of-Russian-industry in me, but...
Russia is big. Some say really big. And I would presume they have aircraft plants amidst all that bigness that are further away from Ukraine than this one? Like...this is barely outside of Ukraine's pre-war Eastern border, and there's already been a handful of successful and who-knows-how-many unsuccessful instances of Ukraine yeeting drones that far or further to try and blow shit up. It seems like you'd be inclined to not do much basing or refitting or anything else there if you could avoid it.

It just seems a bit odd of Russian military commanders to make such a decision.
Suppose inertia/ignorance might be part of it, or just more sympathetically...limited number of areas specializing in that industry and such--not like the US or other countries are immune to that exact same thing even in peacetime after all. So, I suppose that decision being 'forced' on them more than anything is more likely than not.

The French have decades of bullshitting and playing fuck-fuck games with NATO and the US to pay off aimed to benefit themselves, this isn't even an interest-payment on those loans as much as France looking out for itself with an eye towards uncertain future...
Which makes sense. Not like their east is very secure when the Bundeswehr could currently be conquered by an irate business-owner with a suitably armored piece of heavy construction equipment and their navy would be more prone to friendly-fire than fire-support.
(Yes, for the record of anyone serious reading this, this is...like...50% or so taking the piss...maybe)

It's not that they had much of a choice. There are other aircraft plants in Russia, but they are equipped to service other aircraft model, it would be like sending a Porsche to be refurbished in a Mercedes factory. There's only one Beriev plant, and it's where it was since early Soviet Union, and doing this work anywhere else would essentially require moving the entire plant, WW2 style (which did happen in WW2), including massive costs and disruption of work, which obviously was not considered worthwhile for a mere 3 day special military operation.
Not to mention that the mere suggestion could be considered criminal on account of discrediting the Russian military's ability to defend the strategic plant from cheeky drones.
Yes, it's an actual crime in Russia now:

Russia is big, but almost all of their industry is in East Western Russia. (sigh...stupid brain) Which happens to put it relatively close to Moscow and Ukraine.

Most of Russia is actually undeveloped.
Yep! Russia has a developed west, a few oases of civilization in Siberia and the wilderness between east and west, and a few cities and such on its east coast (e.g. Vladivostok) which the Chinese, being the Chinese, are subtly eying up (because China is China and "historical claims").

Most of the country's territory is ice, rock, desert, forest, and... well, nothing.

Details on the Ukrainian Drone strike on the Taganrog Aircraft Maintenence Facility. The Russians describe the Drone Strike as similar to that of the Russian Geran/Shahed Drones and it took just over an hour of flight time for the Ukrainian Drones to reach their target.

Recon imagery reveals at least three hits upon the facility but no data as to what damage to the facility interior or any aircraft that might've been within.

Article on how the presence of Ukrainian Maritime Drones Might've Turned Back Russian Supply Ships Returning from Syria. These two ships which are strongly suspected of transferring munitions from the Middle East to Russia, will now have to travel around Europe to the Baltic after turning around at the Bosphorous.

Another Russian vessel reportedly spotted the Ukrainian USV's that were on their way to strike the Missile Corvette sunk a week ago, only spotted the drones from about two miles away on radar and were even followed for a bit before the drones moved on.

Well who really cares about using boats to move stuff from place to place, something that old fashioned can't be that important.

Italy's Defence Minister despite sending aid to the Ukraine refuses to send troops in the Ukraine. Most military men I know here in Italy probably would risk going to military court than facing the Russians and the Ukraine's Russians.

Probably a good thing for us Italians.

Last time, it seemed it was basically just a distraction to get the Russians to shift their units elsewhere, as well as for morale purposes.

I wonder what their aim is this time?

Same as previously most likely, with a bonus of making a bit of a shitshow for Putin's carefully planned reelection circus. One of the raiders even remarked that they are going to the election.
