Oh ffs, at this rate we are going to see a lot of radiological contamination in more and more areas of Ukraine.

Fucking Russians should know better than to try to engage in combat near nuclear reactors.

Reportedly a small VDV Unit destroyed by Ukrainian Army Forces backed by Special Forces units.

Pictures alledging the Russian authorities, at least in Moscow, are arresting children for attending antiwar protests.

Sat on this story a bit just to see if it still was being reported.

Reportedly there's a fire (allegedly started by Russian fires) at the 'largest nuclear power plant' in Europe, located in South Eastern Ukraine, along the Dnieper River and Northeast of Crimea. Also reports of firefighters coming under gunfire as they try to control the blaze.

The United States and Russia have created a special military communication line so they don't accidentally start World War Three in the Black Sea or Polish-Ukrainian Border or anything. Now our main concern can be intentional World War Three.

Here is three dudes from what should be a couple dozen. Also they have zero identification patches or anything totally trust us they are what they say? Man at least with the equipment tweets, they are mostly actually the equipment they say. Sometimes the wrong year, but no one is perfect.

Here's a reported video of them being interviewed or whatever.

Chernobyl 2.0, here we come...
Yeah, at this rate Putin might get the buffer he wants simply because they created a radiological no-man's land through large chunks of Ukraine during the fighting.

Edit:

Zelenski is pressing for a NATo no-fly zone over Ukraine, or for NATO to give him planes to use.

Well yes, absent NATO military intervention Ukraine is going to lose. Zelensky is fully aware of this fact.

The thing is, the NATO nations are also fully aware that if they directly engage Russian forces then Russia will see it as WW3 with all the attendant consequences and issues. US forces killing Russian forces on the Russian border is an existential threat to Russia in the view of basically every relevant force in Russia; and Russia will respond as such.

Right now, Russia sees the economic actions taken by the West and the arming of Ukraine as acts of war but is prepared to accept them as the cost of doing business and not expand its actions outside of the Ukraine theater.

If NATO puts up a no fly zone (or takes any other direct military action), that entire calculus changes.

I'd say all is up to how much fight Ukrainians have in them. If they are willing to turn the country into urban warfare and guerilla hell, those kinds of battles usually took many months against much weaker, less equipped forces.
Considering the state of Russia's logistics, that's a stalemate. Assuming that they don't crash completely before the point where they can besiege all major cities.
If NATO puts up a no fly zone (or takes any other direct military action), that entire calculus changes.
True, that's why NATO wont cross that line 99% unless something unthinkable happens to change that calculus.

We need to ban the Russians from being in or near nuclear powerplants at this point. I am fine with them having nukes and power plants in general, but I think it would be for the best interest in world security if labour was outsourced for running them.

I've seen the future...
Different type of reactor with a containment dome. All the reactors were scrammed. As long as the actual unit domes are not breached, there is no risk of a catastrophic event.

From the looks of it, the UkA forces were using RPGs and ATGMs and Russia responded with mortars and flak bursts of HE shells.

Yes, I saw that. It has six VVER-1000 pressurized light water reactors. Inherently, a much safer version than the Soviet RBMK reactors like the one at Chernobyl. So, that's a good thing.

Problem is, it's still a nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe and one of the 10 largest in the world. Fire, explosions and nuclear reactors tend not to mix well...
