Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

Watching the interview of Olena Gnes from the bomb shelter in Kiev, Ukraine.

It's heartbreaking to watch: She's warning Putin's likely gunning after the Baltic States, Finland & Poland next if he's not stopped.
Finland maybe. The rest? Fuck no does Russia try, as they are all part of NATO. Unless they want a nuke party, they got no shot.

But yeah, it's quite possible to hold a sane view about this (Putin's an evil bastard, news at 11), while also knowing that he's got this in the bag and that the US/NATO shouldn't intervene.

Yeah I had my doubts about that story, refusing to give up against a warship when you have no weapons to counter it, isn't feasible an ask, since you are asking people to die for no actual purpose. I am fine with last stands if they achieve something but if the only thing you cost the enemy is a little ammo, it is not a sensible idea at all.

I feel like the original intention of the guy on the radio was just to talk some shit before becoming a POW but then the Russian ship responded with shells instead.

For finland the demand is likely maintain the condition from the cold war..... i.e. don't join nato and be neutral or else.

I'm not going to comment on the war as such other than saying that anbody who read the Clash of Civilizations twentyfive years ago and didn't buy into Fukuyama's bullcrap knew that eventually this would go down, the specifics of how it started not withstanding.

What bothers me is how shit the German news coverage, whether it's the state channels or the private "news" channels like NTV, has been so far most likely will continue to be. Quite frankly, I watched NTV with my wife for two and half hours yesterday, and they weren't able to come up with half the information (true or fake) that had been gathered in this thread up until that time.

This is a real shooting war. I want military experts on TV. I want to know who is fighting where, I want to know where the front lines are, I want to see the combat footage and vids of troops in motion. I want talks about what the likely course of action is. I want to know how we will react to this, how it will influence Germany's military policy. Hell, I want to know if our glorious government might actually get their heads out of their collective asses about energy dependence and the whole green energy fiasko.

German state media receives more than 8 billion Euros p.a. in funding. And all I get for this is cut sound bites that tell me absolutely nothing about the state of the war, but only manage to highlight the incompetence of our leaders and media "professionals". I shouldn't need to go to Tiktok and Twitter to get that kind of info.
If anything has been shown in the last 10 years its that state run media is dog-shit no matter the country. I'm not saying private run media is any flower either, but seeing how the BBC, PBS, CBC, etc. have declined in quality has been rather shocking. Never thought I'd be more interested in getting rid of state funded media, but here we are.

Fox News reporting France has seized Russian cargo ship.

Finland expected to block Russian flights & Germany FINALLY grew a backbone & decided to send weapons, missiles to Ukraine.

Russian Invasion Meme Dump from the finest of open source unverified accounts who are doing better job at reporting then their checkmarked brethren.

And the Greatest Defiant L of all time...

Finland and Sweden should be considering joining NATO considering the track record of non-NATO neighbors who've attracted Putin's ire.

And Romania should send in peacekeepers to Moldova... Just in case. The new President there is clearly Putin Problematic, desirous of things like unifying with Transistria and the like

Another concern: Latin America might become the new battleground if Russia follows through on placing nuclear weapons in Venezuela & Cuba.

Reports of Belarussian soldiers getting invovled.
My chief thinks this could be the start of NATO getting invovled in the future

I should note Belarussian military troops attacked some Polish soldiers a few years ago.

Memo to the Baltic States including Finland, Sweden & Poland: Brace for the vicious sucker-punch.

Eh, this is likely to shove them NATO's way, and quick. Russia's too busy to attack, and we'd actually give a shit about Finland, as it has an actually functioning democracy, and isn't perceived as filled with pro-Russians. Ukraine, by contrast, was always hopelessly corrupt, had about half a democracy, had portions of the population that were very pro-Russian, etc.

We never gave a shit about Ukraine as a country, and that's a fine decision to make. The issue was that we kept holding NATO out there as something for them to grab at, but were never planning on giving it to them.

I also expect Vietnam to consider making more overtures towards us, along with other SE Asian countries. Taiwan will likely fall though, it's a matter of time and we've given no security guarantees.

Truth be told none of which goddamn applies to the situation at hand, the U.S. is giving weapons to Ukraine so they can bleed the Russians to death and frankly the only way it may backfire is some of those weapons getting back to a black market.

My point is I don't care. I will help my fellow man and want to avoid human suffering where possible but at the end of the day being petty and giving the Russians a hard time to ensure my nations long term future rather than sucking Putins d*ck is my chief priority in life.
You'll get your fellow man killed fighting a pointless conflict in a poorly thought-out attempt to inconvenience your enemies, and sooth your own ego; that's not helping, and in fact causes human suffering.

Another Unverified Twitter Storm coming in. Mostly War Porn as opposed to updates.

Conversation between a Ukranian and Russian soldiers presumably. References reports of the fuel shortages.

A 'rare' Ukranian Kevlar-E scooting around, looking cute with it's Ukranian flag fluttering about

Obligatory Cat Picture

Unverified but a reported shoot down of a Russian Mi-24 Helicopter. There's some controversy though.

Presumed Combat Footage. Destroyed vehicles are identified as Russian but no clear visual evidence apparently (ie Identifiable Letter Markings). Ukrainian Soldier walking through with a British NLAW Anti-tank weapon.

When you ignore your enemies when they and your leader's parrot how much they are your 'friend'' despite every shred of evidence to the contrary that they aren't, you end up with China and we all know how that has gone.
