Russia(gate/bot) Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

The stuff on the tanks might be true, but there are a lot of vehicles the United States really does have a surplus of, which is probably why they're sending so many MRAPs like MaxxPros and M-ATV's and Cougars to Ukraine. They cost tens of thousands of dollars to shred and with the War on Terror long winded down, there's less of a need for the thousands and thousands of MRAPs still hanging around in the US arsenal. Plus all of the M113's and Humvees getting long in the tooth. Still gotta sealift or airlift them to Europe though in most cases.

Pentagon apparently was pricing used and old equipment as new in some cases, resulting in a $3 billion surplus in the military aid going to Ukraine.

So Free Russian Forces have done more than just a cross border raid now; this may be the true beginning of the next Russian civil war.

Edit:

Edit 2:

This is hilarious, and apparently this village is in range of the Patriot battery, so Ukraine has some ability to hit Russian aircraft across the border in this area. It was the Patriot that whacked those 4 aircraft last week, so now Russia cannot even fly up to it's own border in the area around Belgorod.

Some Russians have had enough, and are taking the fight to the real enemy, their own government.

Edit 3: How does the Free Republic of Bilhorod sound to folks?

Edit 4:

Uh, you do realize logistics chains are a thing, and Ukraine has an easier time keeping tanks operational when they are ones they already have parts for.

The Polish T-72s are something that aren't going to require a bunch of new training for mechanics to keep in operation, or parts that aren't in stock in-house.

Where as the US stock of older Abrams is something that Ukraine does not have native logistics for, and for which their mechanics are not familiar with, so sending over hundreds right now is counter-productive.

Rhienmetall is already talking about producing Leopard 2's in Ukraine at a new factory they are planning, and the Ukrainians already have some Leopard's operational.

Leopard's also do not need a logsitics trail that cross the Atlantic, like Abram's do, and Abram's use a completely different fuel than Leopards or T-series tanks, so fuel concerns are in play.
It explain why USA do not donated half of their older tanks, but not why they deliver only 31.
Real explanation is,that USA do not want Ukraine victory, but deal with Kremlin.

No, I will lay it out plainly for you.

It is not simple to re-engine a tank as complex as the Abrams, and switch from jet turbine to diesel.

The 31 that are going are likely the only diesel conversions we had on the shelf at the moment.

Necause it would make an unnecessary complexity in the logistics chain.

You do know we use Jet fuel for everything in the Army right?
And before JP8, which our humvees and generators also take, we used just normal diesel

look he is a euro. America hasn't given enough for his cause this week. therefore america is bad and has done nothing to support Ukraine. despite objectively having given the most with the only exception of Ukraine itself. no matter how much we give it will not be enough for him and those like him.

I know a lot of stuff is designed to take multiple fuels; the Abram's being only able to run on jet fuel normally is an aberration among most MBTs, and thus the additional logistical complexity of switching however many hulls over to diesel engines to make them usable for Ukraine.

The Abrams can take any fuel for the most part.
It runs best on JP8

Eh, diesel and turbine engines generally don't mix.

You might get away with using gasoline in a turbine if you accept a power hit, diesel is a different matter.

In other news, Zelensky trolling over Belgorod now:

JP8 is literally a type of jet fuel we give to diesel engines because it is basically off road diesel

...huh, I had been left with the impression diesel was no bueno in Abram's engines because they were turbines?

Is the issue then the complexity of turbine repair vs diesel repair, instead of fuel, for Ukraine?

Depends on how refined the diesel is. Running on anything but jet fuel just reduces efficiency and increases the gunk in the engines leading to more maintenance time after each use.

Probably because diesel gunk

But the logistics of transporting spare Abrams parts

Reports that Putin Rejected a Ukrainian deal to stay out of NATO, preferring instead to invade and occupy the country.

I watched this happen live on TVR 1. This is old news. Very old.

Reminder Belgorod used to be part of Ukraine and was jacked from them by Russia over a century ago.

So now Russia is getting a taste of it's own medicine.

This was supposed to be a slap to Russia that the liberation game can be played by other factions. A quick attack then back over the border. The Russian army garrison collapsed so quick they decided to keep raiding further. They are at the moment within 30 kilometers of the Russian nuclear warheads storage and reprocessing facility. I don't think they'll stay for much longer. They don't have the manpower or transport and we're not planning to attack so deep. If only they could get to that facility and make off with those nukes. Hahaha!

To think the world used to fear the Russians and Chinese coming to invade! Now I wish they would then at least I don't have to listen to another Wolf Warrior threat from China.

СЛАВА УКРАЇНІ!
