Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

I think Macron is going to make Russia very uncomfortable if/when they hit any French troops in Ukraine, and won't ask for NATO or US help to handle things.

The French aren't scared of Russia the way the US gov is.

Macron about to do a Napoleon.
Except this time he won't forget the coats. God damn, this reads like he is saying "We got this, Russia don't scare us."

France about to make America look like Bitches.

We can't let this slide, the cheese eating surrender monkeys can not out stage us.

France has repeatedly suffered losses in military campaigns, for example in Africa, without seeking help from allies, the French president added.
...Ha!
That's because they've already been getting it.

Seriously, this French saber-rattling and chest-beating might be more intimidating if the French military hadn't been so reliant on American aircraft for not just strike-missions and air support for active regime-toppling (see: Libya), but also for cargo, refueling, and personnel transport (see: Niger, Mali, Central African Republic, Djibouti).

Hey, if France can solve a bunch of our problems for us by handling Russia and supporting Ukraine, even in the event French troops get hit, then we should cheer for it.

I'd vastly prefer to see a resurgent French Empire than see Ukraine lose because DC is up it's own ass on so many things.

That I can agree with. I find the surrender monkey joke hilarious.

Outside of the big cosmopolitan cities like Paris, the French are just as militantly passionate on gun ownership, hunting and personal freedoms as American hillbillies. That you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart from their American counterparts except for the accents. Unless we're talking about Louisiana, country French and Louisiana backwoods French have the same damn accent, but they'll kill you for pointing it out. 😄

I've been wanting Europe to step up and handle this the whole time.

So, this is a positive step, if the US stays out of it and Europe steps up and handles their own problems.

Agreed. When nations close to the issue step up and take the leadership position NATO starts to look more like an alliance and less like a bunch of spoiled protectorates. It's a step in the right direction at the very least.

I mean, it hurts us with our allies but hopefully it doesn't effect our economy.....

Nah, it's the same relationship a parent has with a lazy kid they force to get a job. They might bitch and moan but at the end of the day everyone knows it was time to start paying their way in the world. If our alliance is dependent on us footing the bill and giving us no slack to confront China it isn't a beneficial alliance to us in the first place. But we've been through this, no need to rehash it. Let's just all agree this is a good thing and cheers each other for once.

I could be pedantic and say they are below the 2% (1.9%) but you are mostly right about their spending. But it's also true they've always utilized this for their little African empire while ignoring NATO, even trying to buddy up to Russia and China until very recently.

Putin lied to Macron about the invasion when Macron was trying to do negotiations days before the invasion, and Macron seems to have taken that personally.

They have always been independent of America.
One of the few.
Militarly they are great to work with....we just dint trust them.
We only trust the UK and the Anglosphere.

But France was ever going to be the only western europe nation to do anything

Macron is really looking for the opportunity to conscript french conservatives and send them off to die against russia so that he can reopen the ports for mass migration from the 3rd world.
I disagree; if France is reduced to an irradiated wasteland migrants won’t want to come.
