Amigo. I know it's funny. It's also something so idiomatic only a Russian would do it. Russian and Idiomatic are interchangeable in Eastern Europe. Also Madmen. The translated phrase, "Fucking Russians!" Is extremely common. Equivalent to the American "Goddamn Hillbillies!" Or "Only in Alabama!"
We’ll find out.

Probably in 50 years from now, assuming that we aren’t smoldering radioactive corpses by then…

It takes a country with spec ops divers... So Poland could do it, with these:
Could be Russia, but that would be a pointless effort for them - if they want to cut off the gas flow, they have more reversible ways on their end of the pipeline, and they can use them as a bargaining chip, whose very existence creates a temptation in Germany to be soft on Russia in the current crisis.

Could be UK or USA, for the abovementioned reason - to ensure that Germany rids itself of temptations to do that.
At least one Polish politician leans towards that theory:

Could have been one of the Nordic or Baltic countries, Sweden, Finland and Lithuania have navy divers for sure, dunno about the rest.
Basically any country that can get a navy diver unit into the Baltic and doesn't like Germany wavering on Russia deals could have done it.
And that's enough countries for plausible deniability to whoever did it.

The scale of this effect is waaay too small for that to be the goal.

Is it true that if Nord Stream would have remained intact, then Russia would have been forced to pay fines to Europe for breach of contract in regards to cutting off gas sales? That's what my dad said and that's why he suspects that Russia itself might have blown up Nord Stream to avoid paying these fines to Europe.

that is just stupid.
1. who is going to force them to pay the fines?
2. the EU are the ones embargoing russia. not vice versa.

> US president says they will destroy russian pipeline
> US bomber caught flying over pipeline exactly when it was bombed
> Suddenly "russia bombed itself" is on allied news

oh well if the fake news media say it then it must be true. /sarcasm
Meh, half-story. Baltic is a very crowded sea. When people say "could have been anyone", they fucking mean it. You can probably find ships or aircraft from any remotely interested country passing over it within month before the explosion.

Good luck with forcing them. Small fries compared to the cost of fixing the pipeline.
More likely that they blew it up as a threat, or part of internal political struggle.

Russia never promised to destroy its own infrastructure. Biden explicitly said he would.

> Biden: If russia invades that means, tanks and troops crossing the border of ukraine, again. Then there will be no longer be a nordstream 2, we will bring an end to it.
> Reporter (baffled): But... but how would you do that? Exactly? since the project and control of the project is within germany's control
> Biden: We will, uh, I promise you we will be able to do that.

I remember when Russia said that Western talk of a Russian invasion of Ukraine was paranoia. This was less than a year ago.
8 months, 2 weeks. Mid January when Putin called us paranoid, alarmists crying about the Soviets returning. Well . . . USSR 2.0 happened.

Edit: I wasn't paying attention and posted on the wrong thread. I cut and pasted it here:

Watching Russian State TV always throws me for a loop. Turns out those 300,000 men was a lie. They want to raise the army to 1,150,000 men. They are insane, they are having to crowd fund socks and underwear for the troops. In public! They can't even provide equipment for the 60,000 they just pressed into service! How in hell do they think they can equip 600,000 more men!? Current troops are down to using 1965+ era gear, some are using Russo-Japanese War (1905) equipment! WTF!?

TVP just shared a video a Ukrainian quartermaster made in Lyman yesterday. It's a sarcastic thank you video for Russia's Lend Lease Program having outpaced the West a third month in a row. Behind him in the field is a fully intact Russian ammo and fuel dump along with several T-72 and BMD that were there waiting for parts. Hahaha!

There is actually a pretty good chance that the Russians can win through shear numbers alone.

It won't be fun of course but they could win that way, the only way this ends is if Ukraine makes the butchers bill too large.

Not without ammo, food, or gear. Winter is starting and they are having issues with production. It turns out they outsourced production to China, India and SE Asia. All of whom, with the exception of China, have stopped all trade declaring their contracts Void. Essentially thanks for the investment, we're keeping both the goods and payment. General Winter, along with starvation and lack of winter gear and medicines will help the Ukrainians a hell of a lot.

And yet it has nothing on how deep Russia's neighbor's resentment towards Russia runs.
Russia whines about the West and blames all foreign policy fails on its supposed conspiracies so much because it puts them in a better light than facing the fact that they were shitheels to most of their neighbors for centuries, as recent events demonstrate have zero intent to change, and said neighbors now treat them accordingly (it has to be CIA nazi color revolutions, not anything they did).

The cold war was essentally this civilizational cycles version of the conflict between Rome and Carthrage.

Russia came very close serveral times to being the dominate force in western civilization, they really had every chance of being in the hyper power position instead of the united states.

They had better inteligence services, they had better propaganda, they had people inside western countries eager to be soviet colaberators and they were expertly turning the west against itself. The leading power opposing them was the united states who lets face facts was completely out of their fucking depth dealing with this kind of match up because they had spent most of their history as an isolationist power.

And then dispite all of their hardwork, dispite every sacerfice they end up losing it all. Places that had been under their dominion for centuries were now loosed, their economy in shambles and their rival became the new leading power of the west.

They have every right to be bitter, they went from being a rival superpower with everychance of winning to a regional power and that hurts.
