Important to note that this is the exact same conclusion NATO has come to - regardless of what the justification (real or purported) is, Russia definitely had no intentions of ending this with just Ukraine. And if they could invade Ukraine without any intervention against them on the strength of "if NATO resists us here, we end the world," there is absolutely nothing stopping them from doing it to Poland next.
That is precisely why NATO is spending all this money and sending all these weapons to Ukraine despite escalation risks and worries - because land war in Europe is an existential threat to the NATO alliance.
