What I meant was that I've seen people attack you for being conservative (which you aren't) just because you were civil and even handed to people that were conservative.
I think we're living in an extremely polarised time. I do understand why people are often frustrated with me, since I try to be relatively quiet about my own views and instead ask people about theirs, or try to explain viewpoints that I myself don't hold. I guess people might be more comfortable with me if I led with my own viewpoint instead, but to be honest that always feels silly to me. My own view should come at the
end of a discussion, not the beginning - because every discussion is an opportunity to learn and change my view.
But I guess I have to say the same thing I say to everyone. I want to listen and learn, and if you're willing to do that with me as well, then we can probably get along. I always encourage people to send a PM; I like talking, and if people have a problem with me, it's always better to discuss that directly than to complain in secret. I know there will be people very unhappy that I'm even talking here, and all I can say is that - hey, send me a message somewhere, we can talk about it. Every time someone's taken me up on that offer, I've had a delightful interaction with them.
You didnt experience a thousand people talking about how you are a nazi and how evil you are, how the only cure for you and your ilk is a bullet. You didnt see a mod encouraging users to dox and get a member of the PMs arrested for his posts. You were not in our boat, so do not tell us how we dont have reason to make a split and cut ties.
I'd request that you not assume things about what I've experienced. I've been on the internet before - some people say horrible things about me, I know. Hell, remember how I was semi-doxxed by some anti-semite on Twitter, because I criticised GamerGate in a public thread? There are nasty things on the internet, and I experience blowback like the rest of you.
But I think I stand by the view that the Sietch was a mistake, for the same reason that the mega-PM itself was originally a mistake. I'll come here because I want to stay in touch with a few people, the same way I have an SV account, but I think the splintering of SB has generally been a bad thing.
