Why don't warships look pretty anymore? The nicest looking naval vessel afloat today is the Zumwalt and that thing looks bloody scary.
I wish the Zumwalts looked scary in a good way. As they are they're probably one of the biggest floating money pits the Navy ever wasted money on. Personally I think if they wanted to go with coastal vessels they should have revisited the Pegasus hydrofoil design, modified it as needed and used that. Speaking of which, here's a picture:
Someone made some funny artwork...
Turned the Zumwalt into a spooky pyramid ship!
RETVIZAN is much prettier:Is it me, or are Soviet ships nice to look at? I know they're utilitarian but they've somehow managed to make that part of their charm. Speaking of Russia, let's hearken back to its imperial days. May I present the Borodino class Battleship Oryol, a real blast from the past.
Progress on my Sovremmeny, I am bloody dreading those photo etched masts and the multi part Helix helicopters. I do like the look of Soviet vessels of that era like the Kashin, Krivak, Udaloy etc, even the smaller missile boats like the Osa and so on
Some of the Soviet Naval vessels of the Cold War certainly had a very brute yet functional appearance to them, the Kirovs and Slavas especially. The missile complements they carried were no joke.
Helicopter carriers often look unbalanced. JEANNE D’ARC, CAIO DUILIO and VITTORIO VENETO also look chopped.I must admit that the one Soviet vessel class I felt looked unbalanced was the Moskva and Lenin helicopter carriers.
