Trump Investigations Thread

Gotta run another distraction from Biden's shady shit given we just confirmation Hunter whole deal was selling access to the VPOTUS as his "brand".

Meanwhile:

"This is a completely unprecedented act in the history of the Republic. Now that said I didn't take the fifteen to twenty minutes to read through it or get one of the countless people I've hired to give me the short and skinny of it, but I'm still going to put a very basic bitch response out on Twitter X and use it to boost my campaign while completely ignoring the far larger implications of what it represents."

With opposition like this no wonder the DNC isn't bothering trying.

Seems odd to me to suggest taking a trial away from the court local to the crime and giving it to one local to the perpetrators residence. What if one were to commit a crime in DC, but the action wasn't criminal in their local jurisdiction? There's a ton of other equally obvious issues too. I agree that America needs more of a single standard of justice for everyone, but everything else in the post just seems idiotic.

It's also an unconstitutional thing to do.

Article III Section 2 Clause 3 said:
The Trial of all Crimes, except in Cases of Impeachment; shall be by Jury; and such Trial shall be held in the State where the said Crimes shall have been committed; but when not committed within any State, the Trial shall be at such Place or Places as the Congress may by Law have directed.

One would think that a candidate for president would have spent the 30-45 minutes it takes to read the damn thing, but, no, apparently that's too much of a burden.

Brrr, wrong.

DC is both not a state and the requirement for a fair trial would demand a change in venue(as any jury in DC would convict him even if the charge was that he ripped a man's arms off and beat them to death on live TV in spite of that claim being batshit). Maryland and Virginia would both be reasonable states to move the trial to but an argument could be made to move the trial to florida because, well, there are federal courts there too.

Not that the current president cares about the constitution, breaking the 4th and 5th amendments when getting the "classified document" indictment, getting the indictment using a grand jury in DC and then having the trial in florida(also illegal), and holding people for extremely long times without bail and without a fair trial for misdemeanor charges.

But you know, following the law is clearly too big of a burden...

You missed the part about Congress deciding the venue for the trials of crimes which don't occur in a state. The President can't just do that on his own.

As for changing venue? His lawyers would basically have to demonstrate that an unbiased DC jury isn't possible. Good luck.

That would be pretty easy, literally just do a poll asking "should Donald Trump be charged for January 6th".

You'll get a result of 80%+ "Yes" in DC.
That, however, is not a good enough reason. They'd need to argue that they're basically going to get a jury that'll ignore the presented evidence when deciding the verdict.

That... is a perfectly acceptable reason to get a change in venue. The jury is supposed to be unbiased going into things and that is very clearly not unbiased.

Every jury is biased to some degree or other. Where that becomes a problem is when the jury can't be impartial.

You realise I hope, Biden doesn't actually run the DoJ, any more than trump could when he was president. It's just fundamentally not how it works.

And that's just ridiculous.

nah that's generous.
"Generosity" doesn't enter into it. It's a ludicrous proposition, apropos of nothing, entirely disconnected from precedent and law.
So, was Trump arrested yesterday? It's Wedensday where I live ...
Can't tell if being funny or not, but just in case... The title of the thread is from way back and speaks to inaccurate guesses from before his first indictment. It's not a general suggestion that on any given Wednesday trump is going to be charged with something.

If almost everyone you could grab off the street comes in believing Trump is guilty then he by definition can not have an impartial jury. If 50% said "guilty" and 50% said "innocent" that would be better, but frankly even that would be a miscarriage of justice because it's innocent before being proven guilty, not the other way around. Proving your innocence is nearly impossible, so no. You are fucking wrong.
