Ten francs it's probably some nebulous bureaucratic issue regarding production requirements, supply chain issues or backfilling of munitions for their own military etc.

This is accurate, but it is merely a characteristic of the true, underlying issue:

We are talking about the French here.

Even if there is no excuse to be obstinate and bothersome, they will fabricate an excuse for it. "Ancient Enemy" Germany and "Other Ancient Enemy" Britain (which is also "Recent Brexit Perpetrator") both want this ammo deal to be solved, so shit can get done. For this reason alone, France would be certain to make trouble.

So the leak was from an moron of an Air National Guardsman boasting to teenagers!? 21 years old. . . Well his future is over. I hope it helps him sleep at night. I'm sure a pretty boy like him will be passed around in prison. If American media is accurate at how prevalent homosexual predators are in your prisons. :ROFLMAO: I sense both his recruiter and officers are going to be hearing from their superiors. "You get a demotion! You get a Demotion and you are going to Alaska! As for you over there you're getting a transfer to Amundsen Station!"

From what I've been told Alaska isn't that bad of a posting, yeah its cold and in many of the bases there isn't much to do, but you don't have to deal with the heat, humidity, mosquetos, that you deal with if your posted in the deep south. And if your stuck in the desert your dealing with extreme heat and the airconditioning will fail.

29 palms for the marines for example.

Its considered to be far worse than being stationed in Alaska.

In Alaska your just out of the way, its not as much active suffering as other postings.

AFAIK Alaska, same as Greenland and Hawaii - comes with a hardship bonus to a serviceperson's salary.
@Cherico - the strip's title dates it at "post mid 90s", I take it? It used to be a meme ...

Pretty sure Minot, Polk and Lewis have 29 Palms beaten @Cherico. There are considerably more, and more vociferous complaints on those bases than 29 Palms. Then there's the report last year that apparently 25 of your bases have contaminated water and soil endangering 175,000 service men and women. That seems a pressing issue that should have been addressed.

Not a fan of leaks or leakers in general but...

US intelligence leak deals severe blow to Ukraine war effort

I'm waiting for the article or tweet that states something like:

"These Intel leaks damage our credibility and endanger our operations." - according to one unnamed senior Pentagon official who spoke to us under the condition of anonymity.

Given how bad it is... I wonder how many more arrests will be made or if we will see people told to 'retire'?
It depends on what the truth of the matter is.

On one hand, this level of fuck up means far more people screwed up than just the Airman, particularly for it to have gone on this long, or allowed him security clearence.

However, the fact no one cottoned onto this before it hit the media makes me think there is more to it.

So on the other hand, I've seen rumors, based on screenshots on 4chan of autists who dug into the guy's background, the dude was trying to be low-level glowie and entrap a couple people on the Discord by claiming to be CIA and using the docs as proof of his bona fide's.

I'm not sure what the real story is, but it is all so very stupid and multiple heads are likely to roll for this.

How much do you want to bet that this will result in the government/ alphabet agencies asking for more power in the name of ‘preventing something like this from happening again’?

I think the response to this is that we need to take more power away from the pentagon.

Eh, I have no idea what this might cause, other than more security screening questions and more 'classified doc handling' briefings and memo's handed down.

The gov already has a backdoor into anything on the net they want to see, it's just a matter of if they've opened said backdoor publicly yet.

And taking power from the Pentagon over this is stupid; this just shows why people who handled this sort of classified info need to be screened and SCIF's contents better monitored by counter-intel/security folks.
So what was in the leaks that was so damaging? What were we doing?
Eh, the damage is more at the diplo level, with the numbers and info about things outside Ukraine being more juicy and less liable to be faked or edited, like the stuff about Egypt.

Ukraine has actually been really leery of giving to much of their intel to the US, specifically because of how leaky the DoD and US politicians can be. So the damage to Ukraine's defensive situation is negligible, because they were smart enough to see the issues with back-sharing all their intel to the US. US damage is mostly reputational and diplomatic, and how much damage it does remains to be seen.

I expect the most that comes out of this on the civie side is they call for openly monitoring Discord channels and such even more, though as I said above the DoD/DoJ/US Gov can already see anything they want online, and digital privacy is a polite fiction held onto by those who still want to pretend the net is still some wild frontier of anonymity.

I think the biggest thing in the leaks is that they supposedly confirm that we have SF personnel in Ukraine. So US troops are active in the warzone, essentially fighting Russian troops. Even if they aren't actively shooting, they would be providing direct support on the ground. Which means we're committing an act-of-war against Russia while Congress has not voted to declare war.
