Musk actually buys Twitter.

The US Government stopping Musk from buying twitter is sorta like my mom trying to prevent my dad from buying something expensive when he has access to a credit card. Good luck with that.

"Why is there a Purple '65 Porsche in the driveway?" is something my eldest sis has actually asked our Mom.
...Why was there a Purple '65 Porsche in the driveway anyway? 🤔

Meh, just do what Nod's Black Hand do: purge them with fire. Best way to treat such an infection.
Let them seethe. Twitter isn't like, for example, a forum such as this one. Here, someone can persistently keep shitting up a thread until and unless it's stopped by mod action. On Twitter, if you just block a moron, he can't interact with you anymore. Problem solved.

Meanwhile, from Musk's perspective, that powerless irate moron is still gaining him ad revenue. That's hilarious.

You can Ignore users here too. Functionally, the effect is the same.
Going on Twitter right now is amazing.
I got suspended way back and I've been refusing to go back because it keeps asking for my phone number.

Problem is that they can keep shitting up your thread, you just can't see them. Others can still be bothered by it. If someone really wants to fuck up a story thread, for instance, he can do it with dozens of persistent comments that are intended to be a bother, but are just shy of any actionable offence.

Now, if the OP of any thread could issue threadbans for that thread, thus kicking out anyone he doesn't want 'on his own turf', that would be the equivalent that would be equivalent to what a twitter user can do. That might very well defeat the purpose of a discussion forum, of course. But Twitter is fundamentally a different beast-- er, bird.

Note, we do allow something similar to this for story threads. Authors are allowed to just say "I don't want to talk about X" or other, similar things. It's not "Ban criticism", but cutting off stupid lines of debate is absolutely allowed for story threads if the OP wishes it. An OP can just ban political discussion too on a story thread if they want.

Im of the opinion that things for us in general were so bad that Elon can really only make them better. Even if twitter just becomes neutral that's still a pretty major win.

Are there still twitter metldowns about the buyout going on?
Oh, so much. I don't think ya'll even realize how bad it is now. I was browsing r/TheRightCan'tMeme looking for some good owns against the conservatives and the front page is like, half Elon memes now.

Trump was already the God Emperor of Man.

Now Elon Musk's become the embodiment of Chaos.

It was prescient that Sufficient Velocity banned calls for violence against the Tyrannids, it's one of the few factions they have left!

Expect the hilarious smear campaigns against Musk from butthurt MSM to ramp up quickly; only, Musk will probably punch them all on the noses by suing the shit out of them for defamation one network at a time.

This isn't some small fry fish they'd be flinging shit at, or a politician that's restraining themselves: Musk has enough money to bog down and make fucking Disney bleed in a hypothetical lawsuit, if he wanted to. Disney!

Love him or hate him, defamation is a bad idea.
