Musk actually buys Twitter.

The key point is that "Twitter cannot become a free for all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences. In addition to adhering to the laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences, just as you can choose, for example, to see movies or play video games ranging from all ages to mature."

My guess is that it means something like a person can choose what level of political discourse they want to view, but not necessarily what level they want to be viewed at (some algorithm does that is my bet).

Word is the money is now in the process of being transferred.
It occurs to me that this is all fake money (vastly inflated beyond the actual worth of the economy) being digitally transferred in return for the ownership of a fake digital platform (its supposed userbase vastly inflated beyond the number of real users).

There's a certain balance in that. Poetry, even.

So, it's official. I guess I was wrong on that one. Didn't think it was really going to happen. I'm Happy to be wrong on this, though.

The way I see it, either twitter gets better or it doesn't, but at least there's a chance now...also I don't consider it crashing and burning to be a terrible outcome, either.

I'll confess I'm surprised myself, honestly I've been theorizing to myself that this entire drama was largely fabricated between them to stir up public interest in the sale and perhaps get more advertising dollars, so I expected it to draw out. Perhaps the judge's involvement prevented more.

What do you call it when the CEO, CFO, and head of legal policy for a hellish, dystopian company are shitcanned?
A good start.

I'm crossing my fingers for that '75% reduction in staff' thing that was bandied about to come about.
Because I'm petty and because of the massive schadenfreude of laughing at the class of people who were/are fully up their own ass in imagined self-worth and who most had the 'learn to code' or 'get another job' attitude for industrial workers or people laid off during wuhan flu bullshittery.

And Musk has announced on his Twitter that under his new leadership, "Twitter aspires to be the most respected advertising platform in the world that strengthens your brand and grows your enterprise."

From some of what he's said, I suspect he's going to move to a model where each user selects for themselves who they do and don't see.

Perhaps a category of tweet system; 'I do want to see non-political tweets, and tweets from X political types, but I'm opting out of tweets from Y and Z political types being visible.'

It throws the 'I'm so fragile that if you say something I disagree with it'll be your fault I commit suicide' types a bone, while still leaving things open in general.

Interpreting this as Trump coming back to Twitter any moment now

My cousin @49ersfootball has a private Twitter account. He says it'll be interesting to see if we see Twitter users who aren't thrilled with Musk leave the platform altogether 🤔

The only reason Twitter exists is because the elites consider it a useful tool in manipulating the ignorant masses.

That's precisely why they were never concerned about making a profit. Elon is different. He knows full well that the massive torrent of user-hostile actions - including the more recent insanities like making R+18 accounts invisible without an account, and preventing people from reading entire threads without an account (unless the Algo decides it's propaganda from a checkmark account that they want people to read) are excellent examples of things that seriously damages Twitter's ability to reach a larger audience (for advertising dollars) but perfectly suits the elitist mission-set.

The special thing about Twitter was always in how a random anime avatar account could reply directly to some big-wig celebrity or politician and actually ratio the big guy. Incidentally, that's the exact thing that Twitter has done everything in their power to destroy and suppress to make it a better playground for the elites to lecture us peons. All Elon has to do is not be a massive elitist cunt and he can make Twitter turn a profit.

Firing 75% of the staff is an excellent start, as most of those stupid fucks are whiny dangerhair cunts hired to police the plebs who dare to talk back rather than for their coding ability (and the horrendously shit code of Twitter really shows it. It's unfathomable how much better Nitter is in terms of RAM consumption client-side.)

The establishment isn't going to just let him get away with that though; I'm expecting they plan to turn Twitter into an albatross around Elon Musk's neck.
