The Americas Mexican trouble

Mexico is screwed; there's no way their leaders are going to be brave enough to ask us for help. Their plan seems to be to curl up into the fetal position, and hope that that cartels are merciful. We're just going to have to wait until the country finally collapses entirely, and then move in to pick up the pieces.

Wait for that? You’ll be dealing with incoming waves of illegal migrants, some possibly used as human shields and drug mules and agents, and a media that will keep denying that the Cartels are so much of a problem

What other choice do we have? Of course we should protect ourselves, and fortify the border; but right now, Mexico hasn't asked for our help.

And if you go into “help” you will look like assholes, maybe Mexico will sort itself out....not in this lifetime though

Honestly, somehow I think in a strange irony, it would be illegal immigrants who’ll turn the tide, after getting deported they somehow end up deciding to try forcing the nation into sanity with their own revolutions

If they can’t get in or get back into the USA, then they may as well make Mexico into something way better....they’re going to vote for a more Socialist government aren’t they

No, thank you, that's a mess and the USA would be better off by walling the border off.
Unfortunately, fortifying the border can only do so much; and I'd rather we not have a Mad Max-style dystopia on the other side. Like it or not, if Mexico fully becomes a failed state, we will have no choice but to intervene at that point; if for no other reason than to avoid the area becoming a foothold for our enemies. Like, for example, China.

Not the first time, that was exactly why we intervened in the early 1900s when their last major civil war overflowed into the US.

I've long said a huge issue with refuge treaties. Is that it creates a pressure valve preventing change. So bad government don't get torn down and good ideas don't prorifilate.

It both sad and hilarious, but at this point I'd feel safer traveling to/in Colombia than in Mexico.

Like, Colombia actually has it's shit together and isn't a failed state; they even got the FARC to lay down arms after 50 years or so of fighting.

Columbia basically didn't have a choice but to get its act together.

We shall see about that...

Of course they don’t. That would mean fixing the problem at it’s source.
Which they don't want to do, because then they won't be able to used the existence of said problem to justify why they deserve more money and power. Then of course there's the issue that actually fixing problems is hard, time consuming, and not at all glamorous; which makes doing so rather unappealing for those who are only in it for the immediate emotional gratification of pretending that they're some sort of hero. People like that get a lot more out of attacking innocent people, and calling it justice.
