The Americas Mexican trouble

Like what?
I don’t know, I am not an expert on that stuff, but for people like the Cartels I have absolutely zero doubt that if they lose their market they will move on to create a new market of even more harmful things, they may not have had the means to once upon a time, but they definitely have enough R&D and marketing personnel for it now.
*shrug* But I what do I know, I don’t even consume alcohol, so those thing are far away from me.

I'm sorry but that's just not enough to go on; what's more likely is them shifting focus to their other markets, instead of cutting a new one from whole cloth.

1. Slaves 2. Protection 3. Coyotes 4. Varoius legit bussiness(iron mines and avocados already mentioned) likley more.
But they already sell those things; I was asking what new stuff could they come up with to sell.

Hacker shit. Botnets, ransomware, DDoS on demand and so on. They can do it from Mexico and few other countries they have a lot of pull in, and they already have established a "relationship" with the government where even far worse things get ignored...

Contracted terroism is an idea. I get they could get paid for doing that. Hard to tell exactly what they'll move into. They aren't good folks by any strectch but they are surviors and clever. The soultions going to be harder than legalizing drugs.

I don't see any particular reason, they would seek a more harmful product. They are not evil because it is evil, per se. Those people seldom survive their twenties. They are evil because it is profitable. They would seek a more profitable line of business. They would probably end up controlling the distribution of legal dope. They might even try overthrowing a country or two.

Exactly this. The cartels are just responding to America's insatiable appetite for dope.

An interesting article on a town that fought off the cartels and illegal loggers in their employment.

A Mexican indigenous town's environmental revolt
When illegal logging turned their green, pine-covered hills into an ecological wasteland, the people of the Mexican indigenous town of Cheran decided to arm themselves with rifles and reclaim their land.

It is far from isolated case, there many areas where locals resisted the cartel depradations, some were succesful, some were crushed by cartels or/and government and in some cases the local vigilantes turned just as bad as cartels. Quite often the resistance against cartels has also anti-government slant as well as people see it as corrupt and inefficient at best, or in bed with cartels at worst, which at local levels it often is.

A man disguised as a police officer broke into the police station in Tonalá, Jalisco, Sunday and stole guns and radio equipment.

The officer on duty said the man handcuffed and gagged him in order to gain entrance to the station.

He then proceeded to rob 11 hand guns, four rifles, 20 magazines and four portable radios.

So Mexico is paying for the wall?

The greatest tragedy of Mexico is that it could be a developed rich and functional society.

With about 180 million people, and large amounts of natural resources, and in a (relatively) stable region of the world, but it is instead just about irredeemably corrupt and borders the United States of America.

Here’s one bet, if it does get its shit together and becomes a prosperous nation, Californians and other Blue State types will be crossing the border into Mexico if they aren’t accepted in Red States
