Honestly, the more I learn about what the US government really does on the regular, the more similarities I see between it and Putinist Russia. Western governments are just more prone to putting on airs, I guess?

Not really. Like, whatever you think of Bush's decision to invade Iraq or his reason for doing so, there are two very important differences:

1. We left, and always intended to leave.
2. Bush made the decision to fight, and then in the next election a year later, the voters approved that decision. It wasn't just Bush deciding to do ot and no one being able to say no.

Well, if you approach things from a non-materialistic point of view, ideas -- terribly wrong ideas -- really are the underlying problem.
