Media/Journalism Cringe Megathread - Hot off the Presses

I'm more worried about the recent announcement that China and Russia will cooperate on a moon base. We're in the eve of a new space race and unlike that last one the winner gets more than bragging rights.
Meh, Musk will get us to Mars before they get to the Moon, and more money into space industry is good for the whole planet, so I say let them try to make that lunar base.

I wonder when the nations will start dropping rocks on each other's launch platforms.

So has anybody seen this MSN article?
Democrats link Atlanta massacre to anti-Asian rhetoric during pandemic
It's basically going on about the shooting in Atlanta and about how it's a part of anti-asian sentiment, and while that might indeed be the case if proven definitively later there is nothing to prove so now beyond speculation, something the article admits fully!

Authorities investigating the spasm of violence in Georgia say early signs pointed to a disturbed suspect who claimed he was a sex addict and who saw the spas as “a source of temptation that needed to be eliminated.” Authorities said it was too early to know whether the killings were also racially motivated.

And furthermore, a word for the Cherokee County Sheriff in the same article!

Police arrested Robert Aaron Long, 21, after a brief manhunt and said he is the suspect in all eight deaths. Authorities said Long, who is White, took responsibility and they believe he acted alone. He has been charged with murder.

At a news conference, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Capt. Jay Baker said Long told investigators the killings weren’t racially motivated, and that he claimed to be a sex addict who had frequented some of the spas in the past. Baker stressed that the assertions were just the initial things Long told investigators and that “we still have a lot of things to process.”

One of those things is what role, if any, anti-Asian sentiment may have played in the killings.

Just goes to show you how these spin doctors operate! They can make an entire article devoted to pushing the narrative of a race crime, even if they openly admit that there is no proof of it being such!
County sheriff's office.
Not the Sheriff himself
That would be Frank Reynolds, not Cpy Baker.
Both great guys though

Talked to logistics guy, due to current fuel prices and ''just in time'' dogma, the truck cargo transportation from China to Europe is economically viable right now.

The 'road and rail doesn't work, lol' analysis ignores both the long history of the silk road and that sea routes to Western Europe are part of the Belt and Road Initiative, the string of ports and canals is the 'belt'. Chinese investment firms have started investigating a canal between the Aegean or Adriatic and the Danube.

Realistically a moon base is a major step toward mars. You get everything to the moon in smaller payloads and then with the lighter gravity of the moon you can launch a much bigger vessel loaded up with more stuff for the colony to survive off of.

I wish we were racing for a moon base, or that we can all get along and share one like we do with the ISS.

A classic Jennifer Rubin interview with Bill O'Reilly from several years ago.

The cringing really starts two minutes in.

It's viable on a certain scale. Nowhere near the scale or pricing of naval shipping.

The Belt and Road initiative is a good way to make it so that you have a lifeline left when the bridge collapses, but having a separate one-lane bridge that survives when the eight or sixteen lane bridge your traffic currently depends on is bombed out, is not enough to prevent you from facing an economic crash.

And that's assuming that all the nations that the Chinese have dealt dirty with to try to build their 'new silk road' don't decide that things going hot between the US and China is a good time for them to confiscate all Chinese property in their country, and kick all the Chinese out.

Edit: turns out this was satire. Crazy how believable satire is these days. I didn't even question it.

Do they actually expect anyone to believe their lie? After sitting on it for 18+ months, they accidentally destroy it?

The FBI is completely corrupt and working for democrats.

Laptop committed suicide by shooting itself three times in the back of the processor, FBI agents rushed it to a computer ER, but the agent carrying it tripped, fell and laptop went flying straight into industrial incinerator that happened to be nearby. Honestly, it could have happened to anyone.

NYT really outdid themselves with this mess of an article. It reads like a gizmodo article with less cursing combined with a tumblr user's attempts to sound smart.
The bills making their way through Congress probably wouldn’t have done anything to stop Robert Aaron Long, but just thinking about this tragedy ought to inspire our alleged leaders to do something. Like improve the background check system.

You're not supposed to say the bold part aloud when using a tragedy to pass meaningless gun bills.

Did a very brief background (read: Google) search on the author. She's written some pointless feminist shovel-literature and a book hating on Texas for having the audacity to affect American politics. Self-awareness has definitely been beyond this woman since at least 2012.
