Not surprising, but still depressing.

The police, as an organization, are not on our side.
It's been pretty obvious for the entire 30 years I've been alive that the only side the police are on is their own side.

The police are on the side of the police. The ties of the 'brotherhood of blue' are deeper and tighter than the social ties of politics nor race nor sex. Police officers, for the most part, vote for who benefits police officers.

Police officers enact policies that most benefit police officers, and interpret laws in the way to best protect and serve Police Officers.

There's not really anything remarkable about that, and nothing really wrong about that: Doctors for example do the same for Doctors, and (sadly) Politicians do the same for Politicians as other examples.

It's how society works. Cliques work to protect themselves.

Yeah IMHO a thicc settlement is far more likely a possibility in this situation then something ever coming out criminally.

Civil court seems to be on a different level then Criminal court.

They still sort of respect qualified immunity mind ye.

So yeah the Babbit murder is a bit more clear cut than day Daniel Schaver's death which I think also resulted in the cop what shot him skating but its still a tall order.

Though honestly, I wouldn't blame any jury in either civil or criminal for acquitting the cop, given the reason Schaver was murdered was the retard Sargent losing his damn mind, having a panic attack and issuing contradictory orders to a drunk. He was definitely guilty of the man's death through incompetence.

With Babbit there is no such ambiguity.

Eh, usually they will settle or try to.

That is very true. In criminal the standard is "beyond a reasonable doubt" whereas civil is "preponderance of the evidence", i.e. "more likely than not." It's why people who don't get nailed on criminal charges still can be sued successfully.
