I think the current incarnation can last a few more decades
we are going through a political realignment.
The republican party collapsed first the democrats are next then you have at least a decade as all of the coalitions are reshuffled, this means everything is up in the air and any one who claims they know for sure who is where is probally lying to you.

And from my browsing of the mainstream "news" sphere, the ones who doing the most whinging in op-eds seem to exhibit the strongest desire for this shift to end so that the regular population can stop thinking outside the box and make 1999 the present again.
The problem with the republican party was that they wanted to pretend that the 1950s and the democrats want to pretend that the 1960s never ended people have been born and died of natural causes since that period.
Also the world of 1999 is never coming back again, every thing has changed and we must adapt to the changes.

I’d be careful with this line of thinking. It sounds to much like the liberal gloating over the GOPs inevitable demise, and we’ve all seen how that prediction has panned out.
We need to keep acting like the Democrats are a strong force in America until they’re actually defeated. To do otherwise invites complacency, and that is something we can ill afford at this point in time.
In other words, keep shooting the rabid beast until it’s actually dead. If we lower our guard and let it out of the corner, it can still devour us.

The liberal Gloating was actually correct there was a total collapse and the Trump republican party is already a pretty different beast from what came before. The current incarnation of the democratic party might well be doomed but we have no idea how fast or slow the rebuilding process will be and what party will emerge from the ashes.
I'm just hoping its a better one that respects individual liberty.

Don't get me wrong, I was not suggesting that we shouldn't fear what the Democrats might do; if anything, having nothing to lose makes them more dangerous, not less.
They don't have nothing to lose.
The democrats will post 2020 election still control major states, they will still control quite a few cities, left wing politics will continue to dominate academia and media circles. Yes they will lose control of the courts but they can still get quite a few of their polcies through they just have to work on a state and local level and not violate peoples constitutional rights.
The absolute worst thing that happens to them is abortion becomes a states rights issue in which case people who want them just cross a state boarder and get them. Other then that and no longer being able to get away with a wink and a nudge for hitting random people outside the heads with bike locks they will be fine.
The only way they end up in a true nothing to lose senerio is if they act like dumb panicky animals and start a civil war other then that they spend some time in the political wilderness reshuffle their alliance and come out the other side fine.

Here's one solution that I don't think Republicans think of enough
Replace schools & colleges with online classes and slowly defund said schools & colleges.
As for the entertainment industry, see if the tech to make new games, animation and filming advances and makes superior product compared to the compromised big companies
Biggest problem would be platforms or big connections or "market places" for those indies like google or amazon though

Like, are you suggesting doctors go to med school without ever entering an operating theater or ICU till they graduate. Or that geologists never do field study expeditions or lab work. Or that LEO academies never have their officers do ride-alongs or fitness training. Or any of a thousand other degrees that cannot be achieved sitting on your ass in front of a computer.
