[1] Take a picture of the bed for reference just to make sure.
[3] Lift the foam mattress and check between the mattress and box spring/frame.

Did another die roll, Gravity won the toss... unfortunately. :p

Lifting the foam mattress, your eyes immediately focused on something you actually didn't notice when searching the bed surface because it was covered by the mattress pad. There are several puncture style holes in the form mattress itself, maybe no more then an inch wide it seems and largely filled in from the nature of the foam mattress material itself. But there are obvious holes in the cloth covering of the box spring underneath the mattress itself. The penetrations don't look completely vertical but at various high angles. There don't seem to be any corresponding marks in the mattress pad, the bedsheets, pillows or the floor or other areas in the bedroom so far.

Time might be short. You place the mattress back down and working off of the picture you took earlier on your camera, manage to make the bed as best as you can reference off of the picture, including replacing the Discman under the appropriate pillow. Ten minutes left... no texts from either Jimmy or the Marshals. Contact should've been made by now.

You can hear Conklin is rifling through things in the Living Room.

[1] Move on to the Kitchen/Dining Room.
[2] Move onto the Bathroom.
[3] Check out the opened safe in the Office.

After using your flashlight and setting it up to illuminate the puncture marks on the foam mattress and box spring, you then snap a few pictures with your camera without the flash for the evidence folder before returning the bed to what you hope was its original state before you started messing around.

Proceeding to the bathroom, you can hear Conklin in the adjacent living room, still poking around. "Paperback novels. Fitness magazines. Freeweights. His television was on CNN," Conklin relays back to you. "And I think his movie collection is like his book collection, either brand new or purchased from a garage sale. There's actually dust on most of the movies... most of them..." he added tellingly. "He really likes his nature shows. Martial arts movies. Some weird Chinese Kung Fu fantasy film was in the DVD player."

As you proceed into the kitchen, the first thing you do is open up the cupboards and realize his taste in dry goods and canned foods is about as interesting as his choice in movies and books. There are cans of food. Beans. Corn. Tomatoes. Stuff like that but none of it has seemed to move and some of it is even close to its expiration date. Which could've been years. Same with the boxes of dried pasta and other sundry items in the pantry. No bread. Or fresh fruits or vegetables besides garlic, chiles and ginger. The spice rack is sparing, but the spices themselves are of the hot, spicy or simply pungent variety.

Time to check the drawers.

Utensils. They look clean. So do the plates and bowls and cups. Washed frequently. The dishwasher doesn't look like it's been used but there's a dish rack by the sink which looks used from the stains on the bottom of the dish tray and half empty bottles of dish soap under the sink and several worn washcloths and sponges. No bottled water or filtration system. Looking closely you can see most of the utensils are rather spotless, especially the spoons and forks. Some of the knives and all of the plates seem to have some wear and tear through, scrapes and scuffs and the like.

The cookware similarly isn't particularly weathered or showing exposure from being used on the stove or oven either besides one of the smaller pans which has an odor of spices and herbs on it.

Your phone buzzes again. It's Jimmy.

The Marshals intercepted Ken. You got five more minutes at least. I'll keep you informed.

Might be able to check out one more place then.

Opening up the refrigerator, you see he has a closed jug of water there. With the lack of filtration or bottled water, it might just be straight from the tap. Besides that are a few bits of fresh herbs and spices. And meat. Lots of meat. Cuts of fresh pork or beef ribs. Various steak cuts. But also pork belly. Beef hearts. Flanks and hindquarter meat. Lots of assorted organ meat. All neatly packaged. In the freezer is more of the same only frozen of course.

You check the crisper drawer and sigh in relief. No severed human body parts this time.

With that done you hear Conklin wander into the Kitchen and nod towards you. "Swept the living room. Planted an AV bug in the ceiling. What's next?"

[1] Ask Conklin to check the Bathroom while you check the now open safe.

Leaving the protein rich refrigerator behind, the two of you head to the other side of the apartment, realizing with the time running short this might be the last stop of both of you before you are risking discovery. Heading back into the office, you notice the safe still tucked in the corner is wide open just as Conklin left it.

Inside you can see a strongbox lined with red velvet. Inside of it is a .45 pistol. A variation of the venerable M1911 Colt. No serial numbers. Three magazines. You also see the gold coins. Featureless. They all look similar and balance well. Upon first glance and touch, even through your gloves, they have the touch and feel of gold. Conklin said there were about fifty coins in the box but you're guessing it might be seventy or more. Which... is a lot of money. If these coins are an ounce each, that's three hundred dollars per coin. So roughly... twenty two thousand dollars. Maybe you could purchase high quality ten or twenty automatic rifles off of the black market with that money.

[1] Take one coin with you for analysis.
[2] Lay out a spread of the coins and take pictures of them.

But according to Greg Kebral… this one guy was buying up all of their inventory. A van full of hidden guns every week or two. Maybe...

Time was running short.

"There's more sleeping pills in the medicine cabinet," Conklin then said curiously. "Illegal prescription and OTC stuff... huh," the CIA Agent said, apparently a bit miffed. "I think some of it is the same stuff in the safe," he said, taking a few pictures of the medicine cabinet. A moment later though you could hear the scraping of ceramic and porcelain from the bathroom. Conklin was searching the toilets tank apparently.

You check the prescription bottles. They are labeled but by hand and with the contents. It all looks like common 'downers' and sleeping pill derivatives on the labels. There's about a dozen of these bottles. They were outside the safe.

[1] Open up some of the more full bottles and take a sample pill for analysis.
[2] Lay out the pill bottles and take pictures of them, labels facing the camera.

I'm wary, due to my concerns of obsessive behaviour, but that's easily just a miscall. This is the better choice, investigatively.

You take one of the coins from the strong box and place it in an evidence bag, then do the same with four different looking pills from the various medicine bottles before replacing the items as best as you can remember it.

[1] Leave the safe open for Conklin to double check and have him close it up.
[2] Close the safe.

It is then that Jimmy sends you another text.

Times up. He's a few minutes out from entering the building.

It was time to go if the Marshals couldn't convincingly delay Ken anymore. Thankfully Conklin seemed finished with whatever he was doing in the bathroom and met you back in the entryway. You both still had a few minutes it seemed before Ken would enter the building as Conklin approaches you. "Anything else before we head out?" he asked.

[5] Let's play it safe and leave now with some padding time wise.

The two of you head towards the door soonafter but right before opening the door, you pause a moment.

[x] Is there anything else to check? [Player choice]

As your ready to exit, both of you are still wearing your disposable face masks, gloves and boot covers, you nod for Conklin to follow you.

[1] Let's take this off in the entryway and then step out.
[2] Let's take this stuff off in the hallway as soon as we step out if the coast is clear.
[3] Let's stick to Conklin's original idea and head to the adjacent stairwell and go up a flight of stairs and take the stuff off there.

The two of you head to the office and as Conklin is planting the bug in the office, hiding it in the computer tower so that it can look at anyone whose operating the computer from a close front-side angle he manages to glance over at you. "Actually, that... yeah right there. That's what it looked like when I opened it," the grizzled CIA Agent then says, double checking your placement since he was the one who opened it originally.

With both of you satisfied, the two of you promptly head towards the exit, with Conklin glancing out casually and seeing the apartment hallway is empty, allowing the two of you to depart and make the short jaunt into the even more vacant sounding stairwell. By the time you cleared the the flight of stairs leading to the 10th floor, you both have already stripped off your masks and boot covers, stuffing them into one of Conklin's bags when he suddenly curses under breath.

"Shit... we didn't reset the security system," he says in a soft, angry voice.

It's just then you get a text from Jimmy, Ken Brac is about to head into the apartment building. You glance down, you still have your gloves on.

[1] Ask Conklin for the lockpicking gun. You'll head down, unlock the door and reset the security system.
