Holding the line against Black Steel while eliminating the Rouges Noir and getting ourselves *out* of a two-front war is the wiser strategy by far.

we know this Enemy's positioning. We dont even need to invade their planets. Just encircle them and destroy their orbitals and naval infrastructure.

We aren't taking incredible losses to the Black Steel like we were a couple decades ago but they are still our number one threat, and we are in an arms race with them which we've only begun edging out in recent years. If we let the advantage slip it could be devastating. Meanwhile, the Bourbons aren't as powerful as us, and apparently managed to fight the Rouges Noir to a stalemate. They aren't a lethal threat, and going after them would take away resource from the front against the Black Steel. We aren't directly at war with the Rouges Noir either and so far have only had one single incident, and our government seems to be keeping on top of their agents. The pirates that the Rouges Noir might be backing are a nuisance, not an existential threat. Best to keep our priorities straight and defeat our killer cyborg rivals first before going for the smaller threat.

we are in fact directly at war with the Rouges Noir after all sending operatives into a nation to conduct violent ,criminal and terroristic actions is certainly a declaration of war , also that one incident was causing an entire planet effectively tearing itself apart through the fermenting of violent unrest that erupted into a planet wide riot

We know where the RN are, we know that their tech is inferior, and they are just as committed as BS to war crimes, etc. They can be ended FAR easier, even if the BS also continue to match us in growing strength. Accepting a heavy hit or two from the BS might be preferable, given that taking the RN out also weakens the pirates they're backing. I know for sure I don't want to lose "containment" on the RN due to them getting better Jump Drives.

Yes, yes, my plan to drive Black Steel to the Inner Sphere continues to progress. The Inner Sphere can’t invade us if they are too busy dealing with murder cyborg warships.

This message brought to you by Comstar Abroad. Remember: you can’t escape us, even in the Deep Periphery.

Bourbon forces have fully taken over peacekeeping duties on Nouvelle Picardie, allowing your forces to fully withdraw and ending the Operation victoriously. The forces are redeployed to New Port Royal for now to rest and refit while the after-action reports are fully studied.

The Black Steel are being very quiet at the moment, with no confirmed sightings so far this year. This should be a relief, but knowing that they are building up forces for a heavy strike fills you with some foreboding.

Thankfully for your sanity levels the Department of Periphery Studies is being quiet at the moment, with no public shenanigans that you need to handle. There are reports that something is in the works, but you are pretty sure that whatever it is the good citizens of Griffsport will put up with it gracefully.

There is some concerning news, however. The CEO of a major news conglomerate which has been exceptionally hostile to the Crown for over a century, while not quite ever doing anything that could be considered technically illegal and always with exquisite evidence that they had nothing to do with the various treasonous groups in the past, at least in a legally culpable manner, has passed away. His son has been under investigation by the Special Branch ever since shortly after you took the crown for his activities on New Eden, and while so far nothing has come of it, it’s still concerning, as the son is set to take over from the father.

The obituary for the former-CEO raises your blood pressure. He wrote it personally before his death, and it spends more time bashing you and your dynasty, accusing you of being tyrants in thrall to corrupt idiots who bumbles your way from perceived success, all the while destroying the rights of the people and blah blah blah blah. Frankly, it’s twisted, oftentimes taking an event, plucking a tiny bit of it, taking something else, plucking a bit of that, mashing them together, and declaring that this was a third event that never actually happened but which supposedly shows how much of a scheming tyrant you, your grandfather, and your great-grandmother were.

The fact that the son had always been an irritant to the New Eden authorities, albeit without once even approaching the sort of vilification by association and innuendo that his father regularly indulged in, and was very effective at it is worrisome. You might have a challenge on your PR people's hands if he proves as annoying as he could be.

Parliament is in session, and has sent you some legislation to consider this year.

The Industrial Production Act of 3037 is actually the brainchild of some of your more intelligent and capable supporters in the Imperial Senate, written with the input of the Eldest and your own Interior Ministry. The purpose of the legislation is to reduce the costs of upgrading and constructing orbital factory modules dedicated to strategic material production as well as improving the overall efficiency of said modules via industrial subsidies, incentives, and long-term contracting solutions.

Effectively the Empire would commit to a ten-year program of upgrading and expanding all orbital factories, guaranteeing the involved industries which build the components involved in such work with reliable, steady work. In addition, a small Imperial subsidy program would be initiated to incentive small firms that currently are not able to effectively compete for the full contracts in this area with the capital backing to at least act as subcontractors, in the long term reducing costs even further.

[]ActionArgumentEffect
[]Approve the Industrial Production Act of 3037The current year-to-year model of contracts in this area, while it gives the Crown great flexibility, harms industry in that they never can plan ahead as to their production levels. When we go a year or two without either building or expanding our orbital factories for strategic materials many of the smaller firms that rely on these contracts find themselves in sudden financial distress. As a result they need to charge premium rates simply to ensure that they survive the boom-bust cycle that we currently have in that industry.

This legislation would mandate multi-year contracts for the production of the orbital facilities needed for strategic material production, removing the uncertainty that currently plagues the sector. In addition, in order to protect against a few large companies cornering the market in this segment, small subsidies would be available to small businesses to enable them to compete effectively.

Ultimately this is a win-win situation, we get a guaranteed increase in strategic materials production, manufacturers get assurance that they won’t continue the boom-bust roller coaster, and we can help unleash the creativity of small businesses in further boosting our production of these critical materials.
  • Converts ‘Construct new <Strategic Material Type> factory’ actions into 10 year autosuccess actions
    • Each year will get the benefit of the action, but it will not be rolled
    • Must be done in blocks of 5
  • Converts ‘Upgrade all <Strategic Material Type> factory’ actions into 10 year autosuccess actions
    • Each year will get the benefit of the action, but it will not be rolled
  • Improves Industrial Efficiency from 4 to 5
    • Has the same net effect of a single Upgrade All action without increasing costs or upkeep
    • The cost of the subsidy is subsumed into the current upkeep cost calculations
  • Creates a new cost modifier ‘Long Term Contracts’ which initially reduces costs of constructing and upgrading strategic material factories by 10%
  • +1 Approval Rating
  • +1 Politics
  • +1 Imperial Economy
  • -1 Economic Event
[]Veto the Industrial Production Act of 3037There’s absolutely no reason to change things, it’s working now, and that is good enough. If businesses can’t survive the whims of the state, then they do not deserve to survive. If anything, we should nationalize the lot of them, but unfortunately that will never pass Parliament.
