I've seen the future...
Someone tested positive for Covid in the building, you know what that means...

In Pamplona, Spain, they do this with Bulls.

What the merry fuck, does this occur often when someone tests positive??

I take that back, with the draconian restrictions and penalizing and lockdowns the Chinese are so damn fond of, I'm going to wager yes.

At this point I have no idea how china hasn't collapsed.

Their housing and real estate schemes, among other things. Won't last forever though.

Because consumer confidence, more than anything else, is what keeps economies afloat; and nobody who's noticed how bad things are in China, and was in a position to do anything about it, wanted to be the one who pointed out to the Emperor that he isn't wearing any clothes. Unfortunately, that just postpones the inevitable; and makes the collapse that much worse when it does happen.

By the way, the title is clickbait. He's having a go at people saying China's collapse is inevitable.

In my view, whilst he's making good points, he's missing the forest for the trees. "China collapsing" does not mean "popular uprising" to our minds, it means implosion. And funnily enough, when that implodes, a lot of the security apparatus goes with it...

Indeed.Popular uprisings in China ALWAYS happened when state imploded first.Or,at least, started imploding.

I'm honestly surprised china kept their system going as long as they did it's like the world's most skilled game of Jenga
To be fair, they had a lot of help; from basically the entire rest of the world. If anything, their real achievement was getting everyone to send almost all of their manufacturing to China, and tricking them into trying to chase the Chinese people as a potential new market to sell their goods to.

Oh, lovely. They've sent me a mo-ron.

It didn't collapse when the great leap forward or tiananmen happened. Such things happen slowly. To fast forward it is the job of glowies.

To be fair to the chinese they played their hand pretty well.

There are perhaps some lessons we can take from them in diplomacy. well before the wolf warrior thing.

No, they really, really didn't. If they had actually opened up, actually become a free society, and not been a bunch of assholes in diplomacy, instead of a bubble that's finally starting to implode, they'd be growing into genuine prosperity.

They lied and cheated effectively is what they did, and a large part of that is because others wanted to believe the lies, not because they were convincing lies.

They fucked up recently.

But you have to remember where they started out.

Mao had basically wreaked his country with his bullshit, he had managed to pretty much alienate fucking everyone. The Soviets took a straw poll to see if anyone would care if they nuked the fuck out of china and Only Nixon objected.

They took this absolute shitter of a position, and leveraged themselves onto the side of the anti communist alliance with the biggest economic access in the world. Then under Deng they managed to rebuild themselves from Maos fuck ups, the civil war, the japanese invasion and another civil war before that. And claw their way to being one of the most dominate manufacering powers in the world.

Could they have done better? Yes, they could have built better foundations, they could have reached an approchment with the americans (fucking easy to do) they could have done a lot of things better. But you have to remember they are a communist power. The very foundation of the state was born rotten and that will be the thing that kills it.

But after the communists fall, there will still be the education and there will still be some manufactering capability and infostructor and the next chinese regieme can use that to create something a lot better and a lot more noble. A better China can rise from the ashes of the current situation.

They will also have to end racism as the official policy of China. If you aren't Han Chinese you are either actively discriminated against or barely tolerated. That does not lend itself to being a stable country when you are comprised of several different ethnic groups.

I don't think you understand what playing one's hand actually means. All they had to work with was lying, cheating, and being assholes; actually opening up and becoming a free society was never in their deck, let alone their hand.
