United States Biden administration policies and actions - megathread

Yet another example of why no one should think the GOP leadership actually gives a fuck what it's base thinks or wants. Deficits are good so long as they benefit the military, but if they support American's at home it's horrible and unjust. The GOP railing against student loan forgiveness is another instance of the GOP shooting itself in the foot to appease Boomer-cons.

Specific to the here and now, though, we're not really increasing the debt and going forward the continued discretionary spending of previous loan holders will be beneficial to the wider economy. Instead of making payments on their student loans, they'll be making payments on cars, houses, etc. I do believe, as a general issue, we need wider reform to the college system in America and that this should be viewed as a measure of stabilizing the existing situation.

People seem to forget that it wasn't Biden and the democrats that gave out $2000.

They promised $2000 and then gave $600.

The other $1400 was passed by Trump, and couldn't have happened without GOP support.

And recall that Trump was saying before the elections that if a clean bill to give Americans $2000 more, without all the bloat, came to his desk, he'd sign that too...and democrats like Pelosi were pretty open about how they weren't going to let that happen because it would benefit Trump in the elections.

You'd think someone with the name "History Learner" might remember 2 year old history, but apparently not.

I for one, will never forget that the democrats were promising $2000 in relief if they got elected, wouldn't allow it before the election even though they could have, and then only gave $600 after they were elected. While their dumb ass supporters ate up the lie "lol we meant $2000 total, so the $1400 you already got totally counts bro."

This, in addition to them keeping their states locked down until after the election, because the economy being in bad shape looked bad for Trump.

One of these sides was intentionally making people suffer worse because they didn't like the president, and it wasn't the Republicans.

Oh, lovely. They've sent me a mo-ron.
I disagree, it will be far worse. At least Obamacare has some long term effects, this is a one term shot.
I agree it will be much worse. I read someone said it's now in the road to literally buy votes which means escalation would lead to the public purse being used to buy more of the votes on the promise of winning the election.

In regards to who is paying for it... Obama nationalized student loans, they are literally loans from the government.
well shit then. if student loans are nationalized then the government could actually just wipe it all away. I think it would be an act of congress needed there since they control the purse though. and there would be massive economic consequences to that.

I believe you have that the wrong way around. Trump passed $600 checks, Biden passed $1400 checks. Also, I thought it was the Senate, not the House, that torpedoed extra money in the last month of the Trump administration. One more reason for Trump to hate McConnell.

It gets shot down by the supreme court for being blatantly unconstitutional.

At least once some lawsuits get rolling. This is a feel good Democratic PR move before midterms hit, nothing more.

The problem with that is that sueing over this requires someone to have standing in the first place, and it's not entirely obvious who, if anyone, does have standing.

Pelosi herself said it was a power of Congress not the president which means she's livid at how for stepping on her turf

Sometimes I wonder if the above is the situation. Not sure. I am mostly convinced he is actually demented rather than trying to signal his captivity. but it is something i think about
