Turn 126 - Dulcimer Stomp
Turn 126 - Dulcimer Stomp
The Olympics continue to be quite competitive, apart from motor racing which Team Griffon utterly dominates like they seem to always do. It’s not that the other teams are bad, per se, it’s more that Team Griffon has a far more complete package year after year. Other competitions are much closer, although Team Griffon has still not failed to at least medal in everything which is truly making the home crowd quite happy.
Economic conditions on Grand View continue to be precarious. A major resort has been forced to declare bankruptcy during the tourist downturn, which is only deepening the local malaise. Conditions are not helped by multiple other, smaller, business failures along with a growing infrastructure crisis as local drop ports are running at or above capacity due to the mass economic migration out of the system. There haven’t been any major accidents so far, and local authorities are doing their best to mitigate the situation with assistance from the Navy and Space Guard.
The main destination for all of these people seeking work? New Libertalia, which is experiencing a major economic boom as their breweries, distilleries and wineries are at full production exporting hundreds of thousands of gallons of their products across the Empire. The system government there is scrambling a bit to manage the explosive growth, both in local GDP and in population, but has managed to stay on top of things quite admirably. This is all on top of the tremendous economic boost that the local economy is expected to experience with the new logistics hub being built here.
The IGMP and Imperial Intelligence have broken up a weapon smuggling operation that was supplying civilian grade weapons to pirates out of Nuova Tripoli. The criminal group running it was fairly small, but sophisticated enough, but hadn’t been able to get their hands on proper military equipment. Hunting rifles, pistols, and the like were all that they were smuggling.
Since you are away from the Palace the annual budget meeting is held in a conference room aboard the Imperial Yacht.
Amaunet, being a massive grifftiger too large to travel these days, is attending via HPG link. “Padrone, overall morale in the military is solid and we are in a good position. Operational planning is proceeding on the next strike at the Black Steel, Admiral Fisher has details for that.”
General Bradley, along with most of the military chiefs, remained on Griffon. “Your Majesty, the Army is continuing our service life extension programs with great success. In the process we are swapping out the old extended range 5cm lasers with the new models, as well as reconfiguring a number of platforms to use the new weapon. We have also initiated a rigorous war games and exercise schedule to maintain our abilities in ground combat. That being said, we have minimal new budget requests this year, primarily continued expansion of garrison and militia formations.”
General Perkins comes up next. “We will be accelerating our production facility expansions this year, Your Majesty, as well as our training assets.” He looks… tired, not at all the confident officer he’d been when he’d taken over the Aerospace Force. “Skilled pilots do not grow on trees, Your Majesty, and we’ve been losing too many of them over the last several years.”
Commodore Kristina Savić is once again handling the Naval briefing, in person as she’d accompanied you to Calliope, while on the HPG link Admiral Fisher sits glowering ominously like he usually does.
“Your Majesty, naval production figures remain solid, with our projected force totals reaching those required for the resumption of offensive operations within the specified time frame. We are recommending the transitioning of the remaining Fubuki-class Destroyers to a full time training role in lieu of procuring additional Wolverine-class training vessels.”
She then brings up the budget requests, adroitly speaking of each line items.
Admiral Fisher doesn’t say a word, but there’s a hint of a smile on his face as the young commodore finishes the briefing.
Elizabeth Lee is up next, she also accompanied you to Calliope for the games, since her son is on the baseball team. “Your Majesty, DoME is ready for both Logistics projects, as well as various terraforming projects.” She brings up the display for them.
“And for our economic goals and investments, our analysts have been crunching the numbers and have the following recommendations.”
Dr Severino is representing you in the various diplomatic meetings surrounding the Olympics at the moment, and Tiberius is back on Griffon overseeing the final details on getting the civil service expansion completed… finally. Reading the memos you are not sure if somehow Periphery Studies somehow got involved or not, because some of the shenanigans…
Gloria is overseeing the various R&D projects that are still outstanding, while Sina Day and Martina have gone off to oversee the trials and further investigations arising from the recent smuggling bust.
