Lol.Leftists and liberals shouldn’t be pretending to give a fuck about right of association or businesses at this stage.
1. Guys on your side were the ones talking about mostly peaceful protests and how insurance would cover any burnt down business or homes.
Your side also subjected this country to a lockdown that was supposed to last two weeks to flatten the curve, and then turned it into a lockdown dragging on for months.
Putting god knows how many small businesses under while allowing the larger corporations to operate almost unimpeded in comparison.
Your side has almost singlehandedly overseen one of the most obscene wealth transfers from the middle class to the already wealthy corporatists that this country has seen since the Gilded Age.
So let’s cut the shit, and not pretend that your side actually give a fuck about smaller businesses.
2. The left has never cared about the right of people to freely associate. They only ever bring it up when it’s their political enemies being put against the metaphorical wall.
3. A business has no right to my private medical data. They have no right to demand that I hand over medical documentation to prove that I have been vaccinated.
Besides that, I will not be brow beaten and bullied by anyone, government or business, into putting something into my body.
The fact that leftists are alright with this, when in other cases they preach endlessly about bodily autonomy, merely proves their hypocrisy.
- I'm not American. I have no connection whatsoever with the American left.
- This kind of sad "Us vs Them" mentality to politics, exacerbated by the two party system, is one of the biggest social issues facing many modern countries. Both sides (As if there's actually only two!) of the political spectrum are made up of individuals, with their own interests, priorities and problems. That they're lumped into either Republican or Democrat party by the failings of the American system does not make them a homogeneous hive mind of shared beliefs. Acting like "the other side" and everyone on it is part of a unified front with shared plans and ambitions is just stupid. Just look at the threads on this site talking about LGBT and the right, or religion's place in politics to see how people on the "same side" can sharply disagree, and keep in mind that any sweeping generalisation of politics leads to that.
- For me personally, I work for a small business. Fortunately, I live in a country with a government that at least sort of does care about individuals and small businesses, so the disease never took major hold because our government took appropriate action early enough, and when we were forced to close for lockdowns, and operating at reduced capacity for months after as people practiced social distancing, the government helped ensure minimal impact to us. Regardless, it's pretty stupid to say I don't care about small business when you don't know shit about me.
- Regardless of how you think democrats feel about freedom of association, it's generally an important issue to other people who share your views. Are you saying you actually don't care about it as a right, or does someone else's moral hypocrisy somehow magically excuse your own?
- You're not being bullied and brow beaten into putting something in your body. You're looking at facing consequences for choosing not to. Freedom of choice doesn't mean freedom from consequences, and businesses and individuals have solid medical and economic reasons for putting those consequences in place.
