China Wuhan Virus Pandemic

Arch Dornan

Oh, lovely. They've sent me a mo-ron.

A us official died.

Geeze this shit structure. Was it this one?

WASHINGTON — The State Department says two of its locally employed staffers at U.S. embassies in southeast Asia and Africa have died from the new coronavirus.

The department said Tuesday that one employee worked in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the other in Kinshasa, Congo.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had said earlier Tuesday that one U.S. diplomat had died of the virus, but the department said it was not aware of any deaths among American staff at any of its 220 embassies and consulates overseas.

On Monday, State Department health officials said they were tracking 105 confirmed cases of the coronavirus among the agency’s global workforce of about 75,000. Of those confirmed cases, 75 are overseas and 30 are at State Department offices in the United States in nine cities.

He's making a joke. Granted, one in poor taste, but some people cope with tragedy and horror with humor. It's a better coping mechanism than most.
Honestly it seems those of us who are treating the Corona virus as a serious issue are the joke, as far as Es Arcanum is concerned.

It's honestly a very confusing thing.

I absolutely think people are over hyping and over reacting to coronavirus.

I also think that's completely understandable and that coronavirus is very scary and I have a lot of family and friends that might be susceptible to it.

So at any given time I'm not really sure how to feel.

I should have expected that really
The main issue is I think that this is new. New in that its a new virus and so there are a lot of uncertainties with it, plus a lack of immunity means a lot of people get it fast so you get a lot of bad news all in a row. Thats going to make anyone nervous.

Also its new to most of the places we live in. Pandemics aren't uncommon and we've had a bunch in recent memory, but none of them really hit Western countries. This is new to us and nobody quite knows what is the best thing to do.

You have uncertainty which creates anxiety and a bunch of bad news which creates fear. You'd have to be a machine to not be affected by it in at least some way, but you can temper all of that with the fact that while it is bad, its not doom.

Keep a level head, look for verified facts, don't take anything at face value on first look and always remember that just because it could do something doesn't mean it will do something.
In other words keep calm and carry on. With sensible precautions of course :)

Wow, you have freaking IGAs in your neck of the woods?!

I thought they were mostly out of business, the only one I know of that is still operating is in Bigfork, Montana.

Apparently the Wuhan biolab even released promotional images of its researchers doing fieldwork in bat caves ... without proper PPE.

EDIT:

EDIT 2:

So yes, researchers were being splashed with contaminated fluids.

I still ... I still can't believe it. They literally were letting infected bats piss on their faces.

...ok, that is a massive surprise.

The only time I ever saw one was in Bigfork and maybe in small towns in Oregon/Washington. Maybe there are just more of them back East.

If they can even do so. I'd imagine NorCal might try to become its own state once SoCal has gone down the tubes.

SoCal for all of its problems has one advatange.

We are shallow, thats a good thing because when times get tough and I mean really tough it means we can put aside our collective bullshit and actually fix things. Socal can be saved because it only spouts stuff to look good deep down inside it doesnt belive this bullshit.

Norcal though has true belivers, If there was a split Norcall would initially do better until they drove out all of the business's and Socall would do the needed reforms under some one who looked pretty for the cameras.
