Not normally one to comment on politics, but there are times I wonder if this is how sane Germans felt when trying to talk sense into their brainwashed neighbors back in 1930s Germany, no matter how absurd the scapegoats were or how dangerous the new regime clearly was. If so, then I'm scared to find out what comes next.

Their choices were a Commie takeover or a Nationalist takeover, and the Adults had either left the room or died of old age at that point. The Weimar Republic also was completely unstable and unable to produce any meaningful leadership.

Enter Hitler who could read the mood, said exactly what people wanted to hear, and was able to use his military service to win over fellow veterans of even greater fame to his cause. Mass psychoses did the rest as the common people simply were too busy trying to survive and did not have the time or energy to research and think for themselves.

Sadly, having a century’s worth of clear precedent that 1930s Germans lacked seems not to have been enough. Not even for the history specialists I know from both my personal life and the forums I’m on, who haven’t connected the dots between how terror-regimes rose up before and what’s happening now.

The answer was to either commit 100% to overthrowing the Government at the cost of their lives or exit the system. Those were their only options.

Trying to stay within the system made them collectively guilty.
