Yeah...I watched the 1st episode of TWoT (and that's what I'm calling it b/c it's not worth the label The Wheel of Time!). I barely made it through the cringe-fest. Never bothered with the rest of it.

I guess one good thing is that the TV show has gotten my parents to start reading The Wheel of Time. Maybe this is one time that wokeness will lead away from itself?

Since the author is defunct, I took the audiobooks. All of them.

It's almost impressive how they managed to screw this up. I mean, it takes real effort to take the introductory chapters of The Eye of the World (minus the prologue) and totally discard them in favor of what we got. The pacing in the original was perfect, and you got decent introductions of ALL the important characters for the journey. Contrast that with what the show set up...

Read some of them long ago, lost interest pretty quickly, after the 3rd or 4th book excluding the one prequel that was out.
Lots of borrowed ideas from Dune and a bunch of other popular franchises.

A quick and succinct summary of the fail of Amazon's the Wheel of Time (really quick and not indepth for those of you who don't have the time to watch all those one hour rants people have put out on the topic).

It's amazing how I keep forgetting this show exists, am randomly reminded that it does exist, and then forget it exists like half an hour later. This series has like absolutely no staying power in pop culture.

The arrogance of lefties is truly astonishing isn't it? They can be given a golden goose but they'll beat it to death because they think they can make something better.

''But that is the spirit of Mordor, Sam; and it has spread to every corner of it. Orcs have always behaved like that, or so all tales say, when they are on their own. But you can’t get much hope out of it. They hate us far more, altogether and all the time. If those two had seen us, they would have dropped all their quarrel until we were dead.''

Oh hell no.

You want the government in charge of that much more of the economy?

Only government intervention I'd be OK with is Trustbusting it up.
That way the money they are throwing down the drain will come out of your taxes.
Let them shovel bags of 100$ bills into the boiler of a train driving crap and produce woke garbage no one watches, the train wreck is entertaining, if the shitty movies are not.
I just want the government to take all of Jeff Bezo's wealth and kick him onto the street. I don't care if they nationalize it, hell they can give it to a conservative ally.

You will have to get in line behind all his ex-es.
I am pretty sure that number will increase soon.
Can't believe I once admired that guy...

People who are that successful in business that quickly are invariably sociopaths, who got ahead not because they were any good at what they do, but because they were willing to exploit and abuse others.

No, here I'm going to have to disagree. Bezos isn't a sociopath, and people throw that phrase around much too freely. There's little evidence Bezos is a sociopath, and saying he is a) excuses him and humanity in some sense from any wrong doing because we cease viewing him as human, and b) invents a stupid idea that all big businesses exist solely because of backstabbing, when in reality there was going to be some big internet marketplace that would make shittons, Bezos is just skilled and lucky enough to make his one.

Yeah, the problem cuts a bit deeper. Amazon Studios have an institutionalized diversity policy demanding representation regardless of whether it makes sense in and around the filmed properties.
I look forward to the day when the automatic reflex to minority people in movies and other fiction is to leave the building and demand your money back. Fuck all this garbage.

You are aware of what his company has been doing, and how it's run (forcing employees out who encounter difficulties in their personal lives, which include miscarriages and cancer), right? How is that not evidence that he's a sociopath?

It's evidence he's an asshole. And that's about it. Sociopath get's thrown around a lot, but it's a specific mental disorder that Bezos probably doesn't have at all. It doesn't just mean "Person is evil". Most of the nazis, for example, weren't sociopaths. Same with the people who participated in Stalin's purges.

For him to be a sociopath would imply a total inability to connect to another human being at a certain level, basically a complete lack of empathy for anybody. In contrast, lesser to no empathy for people you don't personally know, especially when conveyed as statistics, is typical across all of humanity.

Given he was able to get married and had a decently long relationship that didn't seem abused filled, he's probably not a sociopath.

And for the way Amazon works, from the link? Yeah, that sounds fine to me. This is stuff happening to white collar workers who are being paid above market rates to get as much out of them as possible. They know the stress going in, Amazon doesn't hide that. Netflix does a similar thing where it constantly fires the bottom 10% of workers pretty regularly. People signed up for the job knowing the hardship, and decided to stay there. They had plenty of other options, but chose the high stress, high reward one.

EDIT: It's mostly fine, some of the extreme examples they presented were very dickish, but then that's sorta what they should have expected working at such a place.

Fair enough; I'll admit I was using the term "sociopath" in a colloquial sense, which is incongruent with the technical definition. He is at least an asshole though, so in retrospect I should have gone with that instead of misusing the word "sociopath"; sorry about that.

Sorry I'm being a little pedantic, but it's a turn of phrase that I feel lets non-sociopaths off the hook: we read such a story, go "Oh, I'm not a sociopath, so I'll never do that", and instead of learning a lesson, we've learned that we're the good guys and their the bad guys, which is the exact opposite lesson people need to learn.

Personally I use to LOVE the Madden Franchise. Playing the oldies such as Madden 04 was a pasttime I will never forget. However the new madden's are absolute Shit. It's buggy af and you literally can't play it without having to download mods (which EA ceaselessly tries to take down). Then there is the rating system. Then there is the racism that's pushed by the game. White players that are top of the top in the league are at a lower ovr than a black players? Lamar Jackson, who only had a 2882 passing yard season is 90 ovr, while Joe Burrow who passed for 4611 this season is four points below him! It doesn't matter that LJ was injured, if anything that should lower his ovr! Then there is the pushing of kneeling, you can literally take the knee in Madden 22 now, which pisses me off because as a patriot, obviously I do not want to accidentally disrespect the flag. Honestly if anyone wants to play madden, get something like Madden 16, get a madden 22 roster, and play from there.
