You say that like weebry doesn’t have its own unique share of problems with its stories. Especially ones made in more recent years.

You just need to avoid the generic stuff, i.e. shounen or shoujo. Stick to seinen or jousei...or historical fiction, although the latter has the Japanese indulge in more than a bit of nationalist/geopolitical chest-thumping. Or horror, Japanese horror is always good.

Studio Ghibli has also maintained standards. It probably helps that at one point they actually got into a shouting match with American censors...well, the Americans shouted at the Japanese, after Miyazaki sent a fully-functional katana with a pinned note saying "no cuts". No details on how the shouting ended, aside from a smirk from Miyazaki and a one-liner: "I defeated him".

Like? Japanese media doesn’t push agendas sure some of it might be cringe and really fucked up and skeevy. But that is better than western wokeism.

No kidding, and my great-grandfather spent most of WWII in a Japanese prison camp. Yet somehow Japanese right-wing agendas filtering into Japanese media is strangely refreshing compared to the crap Western media is pushing these days.

Oh it definitely has its own issues but least the Japanese aren't infected with woke. That said I definitely prefer good western style story telling but Hollywood is just too creatively bankrupt now a days to actually make anything worthwhile. Everything has to be "inclusive" and check the boxes off a list to the detriment of storytelling. I think thats just skirting the surface though and there are even bigger problems in regards to a genuine lack of talent in the writing department for most works coming out of there now a days.

It is seeping into anime, though. It was more subtle at first, with characters like Urushibara Luka in Steins;Gate, less subtle with characters like Lily Hoshikawa in Zombie Land Saga, and more recently you get plenty of anime that will rail against capitalism, and straight-up socialist revenge fantasy like Moriarty the Patriot. There's actually a scene in the English dub of that one that features children chanting "eat the rich." There is plenty of dumb anime stuff out there, like the obsession with fan service and buying plastic, but I'm way more worried about the commie stuff that's been seeping in lately.

place your bets people, how long before Mary Jane Watson comes out as a lesbian and Peter ends up with a lady called Michelle jones who just happens to look like Zandaya?

Yeah, this is probably what they're leading in to.

People accepted "Michelle Jones" because although she's basically the Mary Jane of the MCU, she was a completely new character with the initials MJ. She took the role of Mary Jane and had the initials, but she wasn't a race-swapped Mary Jane. It was a thin line but it was a line nonetheless.

If they're going to make Mary Jane a lesbian, and if they shoe-horn Michelle Jones as her replacement, that's going to cause the non-woke Marvel fans to go apeshit.

Something that bothers me is that the more woke stuff gets, the more pessimistic and likely I am to just wave stuff off as being further woke garbage.

Like I can watch two basically identical films and have different opinions on them based solely on when they were made.

90's movie with female characters beating up men: Simple entertainment, no ulterior motive, either somebody's crudely disguised fetish or some woman's fantasy but nothing too wide-spread.

2020's movie with female characters beating up men: Still simple entertainment but people treat it as the second coming of Christ, probably has some sort of absurd motive behind it, designed by cold cruel committees despite nobody wanting it, get called a bigot sexist Nazi for disliking it.

At this point I'm just so disconnected and disappointed with media that I am probably looking too deep into stuff which ultimately has no meaning. But how can I not be like this? There's way too many overt woke nonsense medias.

First Doctor Seuss, and now Roald Dahl, the woke mob is relentless. For now they seem focused on modern literature, but I'm double-checking my collection of classical and early modern works to see how many of them are in good shape or in need of replacement before locking them down. I would hardly be surprised if in say...ten years time, they'd be editing the works of Machiavelli, Dante Alighieri, Shakespeare, or even Homer and Euripides, for a 'modern' audience.

*spits*

And after that parody called 'Rings of Power' by Amazon, I'd do likewise to modern literature as well. Who knows how long until the print versions of LotR stay sacred, now that Christopher Tolkien is dead and no one's left to fend off the dogs.
I warned people. I told people, on SB, a whole decade ago, that this was a slippery slope. That was before all this sensitivity reader bullshit started. And I do mean bullshit. As in, I have nothing but absolute, unwavering contempt for the idea of manuscripts being handed to censors before publication like we live in East fucking Germany.

Now, they're actually going back and retroactively editing works of decades-dead authors for sensitivity. Pure bullshit, and totally unacceptable.

It's vandalism and an attempt at controlling what future generations read and think, plain and simple. These people are no better than book burners, in my eyes.

They're worse. Look at their tactics. They don't burn something, they poison it. Warp and distort it to suit their own purposes. And when they're called out on it, they "compromise" by only releasing their poisoned, warped version in addition to the originals. But in a few years, they'll quietly stop publishing the originals. And then they'll have their victory after all.

While everybody's looking at the Roald Dahl estate, by the way, the Ian Fleming estate is doing the same thing to the James Bond books.

The culture wars are far from over, and while the side of sanity is slowly stirring into wakefulness, we are still on the back foot. The only path to victory is the complete annihilation of the other side. The enemy already knows that. And even though they are actually quite weak; as long as they know it and live by it, and we don't know (or accept) it and continue to swallow "compromises"... they'll keep scoring victories.

And frankly, they'll deserve those victories. Or rather, we'll deserve the defeats. They are the punishment for our lack of will; our refusal to act.

Are the estates run by the family of the author?

Removing and altering "racist" lines here and there. Plus a disclaimer in all books, lest anyone think that the publishers condone horrible WrongThink. Can't have that!

Just wait. It'll only get worse. It's like... George Lucas and the "special editions". They'll keep tinkering. More edits every time. And they'll do everything to get the originals out of circulation. If you rely on cloud-based digital editions... they'll edit the versions in your library.

If you love something, buy the original, and buy it second-hand if you can. Because otherwise you're still giving money to the enemy. (Besides, second-hand bookshops should be treasured.)
