Harlock

I should have expected that really
I don't think pilot and WO got out of this one.

Story is the catapult tore off the forward landing gear during launch, jet was at max thrust so it couldn't stop. Both men did manage to eject but sadly one got dragged under the carrier. The other made it

Not a proper warship I suppose, but a beautiful pic nonetheless of the South African Icebreaker Endurance22.

Basically they wanted to fit some of bulkiest features of a frigate onto a corvette to perform the duty of a PT boat. It would have been more effective to just buy a hundred patrol boats and some merchant ships or America class LHAs as tenders.

Honestly they're another great example of the military industrial complex making promises so they can make sales, and then failing to deliver on those promises. The entire point of these things was they they had a shallow draft so they could be in close to shore, since that's where most of the action was at in the early 2000s, and automation was supposed to mean they could have a small crew, while gas turbines were supposed to let them go fast, and other than the shallow draft, none of the promises have actually been kept as far as those ships were involved. My understanding is that they are kind of scary to be on in anything but the smoothest waters, and are unpleasant to live in, too.

What I've heard about this one is the problem is specifically on the AIP system. The Thais want a German AIP system, and as said above, the Germans refuse to deliver it to China. The solution would be fitting the system in Thailand after completion of the sub, but that increases the price of the sub, and the Thais are trying to get the Chinese to pay for it(I'd say they won't be able to).
