Honestly it wouldn't take too much for the establishment to reconsile with the populists.

Cut off immigration for a generation or so, some protectionism against the worst offenders, find the really crazy leftists and remove them from power, and generally just agree to leave people alone and that would be enough for most people. Where still in the point grand bargans can be made its just that the right has made enough compromises and now its the lefts turn to give.

The problem with that is you cant negiotate with people you don't respect, and the left just doesn't see us as human beings , they view themselves as the annoited and hate the unwashed ones for daring to have a problem with them. So this means their just going to double down and just destroy the political opasition instead of dealing with the underlying issues that are causing the well spring of populism.
