The proper debate is how the Sherman was not a horrible tank!

And you are looking at her, but do not fret! There are plenty out there!
Ah, yes, that is an important debate.

Though I recently learned that the Russian troops loved thier Sherman's. The Soviet tankers viewed them as the Cadillac of tanks, due to the features/crew comforts included on standard models. They had to be guarded constantly, because conscripts would rip out the leather seats to make shoes from it, if they left a Sherman unattended for any length of time.

People seem to not understand the Sherman is one of the best tanks of the war, even early war. It had high survivability, was maneuverable, had a gun that was good for its job (Not killing other tanks)

Well, anything that isn't -comparatively- stupid crazy levels of armor like the Big Cats or the IS series anyway.

Now for my tax:

ATV-01 series, basically a modular MRAP/Humvee equivalent. The weapon station on the top of the vehicle is designed to be swapped out for various modules, this allows for easy swapping of mission-specific load-outs. These include HMGs (as shown here with the 15.5mm ETC-FLARE HMG), an ATGM ambusher, and a recon variant with thermo-optic camouflage.

... and let's not forget this bad boy, always loved this guy's work, especially the Battletech redesigns. ;)

Ummm the army explicitly selected the 75mm for the Sherman because it was good at killing tanks(hence why it got the same gun as the M3 Gun Motor Carriage, aka the half track with a 75mm gun and our first Tank Destroyer) and moreover it also was good at throwing HE. Mind you the 75 was great for killing tanks in 1942 by late 1943 the German heavies made life more difficult. The one thing I will never understand about the early Shermans is how it took until late 1943 to install a loaders hatch, and how so few loaders died before they designed said hatch and then sent out the modification kits to the troops in the field and started making it a part of the base design.

Because Shermans had one of the highest crew survival rates. Loaders hatch be damned

I should have expected that really

Well for those first couple of years anyway it was able to bully any tank the Germans or Italians sent before it. Outclassed when 50mm guns became more common the Aussies still got a lot of use out of the close support version in the jungles right up to the end of the war.

They were considered a slow tank but they look they can move at a decent pace to me, and a nice turn at speed there

Well, my brother gave up on using a rule in Flames of War (or one of its competitors, forgot which) that had every other tank than the Sherman have the rule of 'Death Trap'...

Wait really? lol
Or, you can take the Chieftain's take on a Sherman tank crew's survival if the tank happens to be on fire...

He tries to keep doing that but it often ends up not working out because he is too tall

Yeah, he did. He gave up because it was too much of a hassle.

Every video I see on youtube talking about the SHerman not being trash there are always German fanboys in the comments.

Heck he's technically a couple inches to tall to be a tanker in the modern US Army let alone a WWII tanker. Still its shocking how often tank designers back then seemed to have forgotten that in combat the main job of a hatch(well other than keeping out enemy fire)is to get out of the tank quickly and that this also is 50% of its job outside of combat.

They're just jealous their tanks can't shift gears without setting on fire.
Not even a joke :p
If I remember right, that was only for the Porsche Tiger, the Henchel Tiger didn't have that problem because it didn't use the beyond bleeding edge electric drive system.

Even Sparky has a thing for hating the Sherman... at least his adherents do.

It is often said that American crews were horribly inexperienced compared to their German, Soviet and British counterparts when they entered the war later on.

However on the battlefield it turned out the theory was hard to prove, because in the case of the latter three they all burned to death by then.

All the training and experience in the world won't help you when your tank is either out of fuel, broken down,or worse on fire with you trapped in it due to poor hatch design or layout
