Star Wars Star Wars Discussion Thread - LET THE PAST D-! Oh, wait, nevermind

He was only "too old" and "too emotionally attached" by their then-current policies and procedures, which actually went against most of the entire history of the Jedi Order.
Pretty much this, yes. Prior to Ruusan, the Jedi were perfectly willing to accept older recruits. In fact, it wasn't until after the Great Sith War that the Order began to prefer younger recruits, but that was what? The early 3000s BBY, so about 22,000 or so years into the Order's history. And even then, they still accepted older recruits, even repentant Dark-siders who wanted to atone and find a better way.

The post-Ruusan Order might seem just as heretical or at least unorthodox (ironic) to their predecessors as the Banites would to the True Sith.

The Post Ruusan Jedi order was basically founded by all of the cowards, pacafists and service corps members that didn't join the army of light prior to the battle of Ruusan.

That's a bit much -- the Army of Light consisted primarily of the personal forces of the Jedi Lords who declared fealty to Lord Hoth, plus independent volunteers from non-Jedi-controlled Republic systems and Force-sensitive conscripts, many of them children, forcibly recruited by the Army of Light.

(This was one of the few times the Jedi Order was genuinely guilty of outright "child stealing" as they were often accused of.)

I don't think the Service Corps even existed prior to the Ruusan Reformations. If the KotoR comics are any indication, if you washed out of the pre-Ruusan Jedi Order, you were simply expelled, and not made a flunky in all but name. Harsh, but in a way, more respectful, at least in the sense that the washout didn't get their failure rubbed in their face.

Then let me put it more...professionally? Whatever...a bunch of busybodies, ideologues, and wizards on ivory towers who made up all sorts of makework rules and regulations, all the while literally spitting on the memory of the Jedi who actually fought and died against the Brotherhood of Darkness.

The studio that worked on The Clone Wars, Rebels, et cetera, is being shut by Disney.

in addition to what we know of Disney's current health, I'd say that the company is in severe trouble.

The Mouse is dying. :D

They have killed an immortal Golden Goose.

The level of stupidity needed to accomplish such a feat leaves me concerned for the future of my species.

Not that I expect them to go public with it, but what are the odds these laid-off employees start posting homemade SW fan films of their own under online pseudonyms?

Again, I doubt they'd use their real names or reveal too much about their real-life backgrounds (due to the suspicion it would arouse), though surely, not all of them will have lost their passion for SW itself and may channel their craft into "redeeming" it somewhat.

There was an ILM in Singapore?

Sorry, correction... there was an ILM in Singapore?

Oh look at that. ILM Mumbai, Sydney, Vancouver, and London as well as their Presidio headquarters in San Francisco. At least they don't have anything in New Zealand.

I'm really conflicted... on one hand yes, back in America is better. On the other hand, San Francisco is like... an alternate version of America. On the third hand, it's the Presidio where there is a shocking lack of open drug use and roaming bands of homeless encampments. On the fourth hand, they're partially secluded from the very liberal policies and increase in costs of living they brought to San Francisco to help ruin it more...

Still Disney losing money and shutting down ILM Singapore overall seems like a plus.

The ILM Singapore staff are being offered lateral transfers to other ILM branches, so they're not actually being laid off en massse.

It's also worth noting that the entire reason the Singapore government was offering generous support for foreign entertainment industry investments like this is they've been trying to make themselves a global media hub and absorb knowledge and skills from Western companies by enticing them to build branches there. This being the case, there are PLENTY of jobs for ILM employees who don't want to move.

Edit: Just to be clear, this isn't a matter of industrial espionage or trying to break into trade secrets; it's simply, "If we attract business of this type, this naturally produces people who live here that have expertise in this field."

ILM's been moving towards divesting their Singapore operation for some time now; they sold the building to a real estate investment group back in 2021.

Some speculation, citing leaked Bookscan numbers of how the books are doing (incredibly poorly) and an insider tied to the (IIRC, generally reliable in the past) scooper WDW Pro, that the end of the High Republic might be approaching.

Meanwhile, despite all the skub surrounding it, the discontinuation of the continuity it belongs to, and a relatively-small gamer base (AFAIK it was originally - and overoptimistically - marketed as a would-be rival to WoW), The Old Republic is still chugging along with dogged determination.

Old Republic >>>>>>>>>>>> dogshit > High Republic

The High Republic was a mistake which should've been aborted the moment the first pieces of concept art for it were released and shit on by the public.

The Old Republic... it started off strong, with great storylines, but now it just feels like it's chugging along for the sake of it. The main villain is dead, despite numerous resurrections plots being used to drag it out, and it basically jumped the shark when the Eternal Empire became a thing.
