Middle East Running Iranian threat news and discussion thread

If the soviet union was demonstrably helpless against the united states, sure.

I mean, if you want to extend the idea of war to include one side bombing a helpless opponent's personnel, then we're already at war with them.
I never said they were. Its a cold conflict. Not a "hot" war.

If you are calling that war, then Israel has been at war with Iran since 2013.

No it wouldn't be, actual war would be if the US invaded. The united states could bomb Iran however many times it want and as long as we didn't willingly enter their territory there would be no "war".
Just because one side is getting hit disproportionally it doesn't mean there is no state of war. This is not 19th century when you had to have official declaration of war, most of the wars in 20th century didn't have official declaration, so the modern day definition is ''intense armed conflict''. Thus NATO bombing of Yugoslavia for example, absolutely fits the definition of war, despite no NATO ground troops moving across the border before the ceasefire. Afterall, if it's not act of war, then it is act of terror.

In the middle east today, confrontations between states and their proxies go somewhere beyond the classic "proxy" war but short of conventional war as is traditionally understood.

Israel hits Hezbollah shipments and targets, and sometimes the latter retaliates-but they aren't in a state of hot war. Tit for tat retaliation.

Which is sort of what the US-Iran dynamic is like-tit for tat exchanges, just below the threshold for conventional war.

I believe the Iranians will take his threat seriously. In the past they night have been inclined to try to call his bluff, but after Kassem Sulimani I think they understand who they're dealing with.
Exactly. This is why a lot of SM (Service Members) ay least respect trump as he is there to make sure we are still top dogs

For some reason the current discussion reminds me of this article.

Article said:
“Under our current rules of engagement, we’re allowed to prevent any suspicious vessels from leaving the area, and that’s what we proceeded to do,” said King, referring to the Haditha‘s subsequent attack on the fishing boat with its 5 inch gun, Mark 46 torpedoes, and the Captain’s 9mm sidearm, which he fired from the bridge.

After the boat sank, the survivors began swimming towards the Haditha, prompting King to order all four of the ship’s .50 caliber machine guns to open fire on them, as well as launch the ship’s SH-60 Seahawk helicopter to drop depth charges.

You have no idea what you may unleash Iran!

Any American ship is suspicious got it.

Well let's see what happens when that boat of yours in blown up by a Navy ship

The power disparity between America and Iran is some thing I don't think you quite understand or appreciate.

It takes one battleship to close down the strait that is Irans economic life line, one. America became energy independent a couple years ago and doesn't need Iranian Oil. Saudi arabia and their allies have pipes that allow them to get their crude onto the open market if a war happens.

The fact is what will happen in a war between the US and Iran would be the total destruction of the Iranian navy and its airforce and quite a few Iranian military bases. Which would leave it much weaker and open to attack from their enemies.

Somehow you guys scare the fuck out of me

That said, I think people forget how dangerous you Americans are

Iran might end up being a reminder of how much of a threat you guys are to the world if soft-power fails
