More accurately, the actual reason the world thinks the US education system is shit, is because it truly us, utterly shitty.

It's more about pushing an ideology than educating children as this point. It's an absolute joke.
No joke -- I came across a YouTube video many moons ago where a bunch of American students and teachers were given UK GCSE and A-levels maths problems, and the high school seniors (17/18) were utterly clueless (GCSE) and the teachers were saying this was advanced "college" (university) level stuff (A-levels) that even they struggled with.

On the opposite end, a bunch of GCSE students were given the stuff Americans learn in their final year of high school, and they were like, "uh, we already did this sort of thing when we were like 12/13".

It was basically basic math.

So, yeah. 🤔 People call Americans dumbasses on the whole for a reason. shrug

I'll see if I can find that video again in my history.

Eh, with math, I think it's more that most people know calculator are a thing and that anything above trig is mostly useless to the average joe.

Having a good grasp of statistics and boolean algebra are life skills, because understating them intuitively makes it much harder for people to lie to you.
Algebra is usually taught before trig in the US, and statistics...yeah, more High school grade course that go into it wouldn't hurt.

However, do remember it was an American, Mark Twain, who coined the phrase 'There are 3 types of lies; lies, damn lies, and statistics.'

Thus, stats is not something many people take very seriously, because they know stats can be massaged to say nearly anything, and thus only those who want to manipulate stats tend to seek it out.

Calculus is something that is mostly useless to the average joe, yet the US education system tries to force anyone who likes STEM to go all the way through Calc 2 to get any sort of degree.

It's fucking ridiculous, and mostly happens because math majors are the worst sort of obnoxious nerds and/or anti-social busybodies a lot of time, and like seeing people struggle with stuff to make themselves feel better.

I wish I could agree with you Bacle. I've watched more than a dozen foster kids in public school, and my own teenagers.

The level of understanding the schools teach is ZERO because the schools don't care if the kids understand. They only care about butts in seats and how many pass the STAR testing. That because it's how they get the $$$$.

There's a very simple reason my wife and I pay a lot of money for private schooling for my kids.

So we can arm them for the future. Public schools don't.-- end rant--

Eh, I don't blame you for private schooling your kids, lot safer that way; I sure as shit wouldn't send my kids to the public schools I went through.

The reality is public schools are government run daycares and indoc centers, they are not really designed to prepare kids in academics that aren't 'woke' anymore.

I've said before abolishing the Dept of Ed would do wonders for fixing many of the problems with US schools.

So…hold on a moment, because I’m confused…

…British schools are better than American schools? As in, the knife wielding hoodies have a better education than most yanks?

Apparently so. I was shocked too, to be honest. :ROFLMAO: And having a teacher say that A-level stuff, which is taken by 17 year olds, is "college-level"?

Yeah, you can tell something has gone wrong with America's educational system when our dumbass yobs know maths and their contemporaries in the States don't. :ROFLMAO:

So even in the era of progressivism run amok…England Prevails?

In all seriousness though, good grief America should try and fix that quickly. The education of the next generation is vital after all.

What makes you think they want it fixed? It's churning out the next generation of voting drones incapable of independent thought and lacking life-skills (gotta depend on Uncle Sam to do the thinking for them, right?).

If these drones go to college, they're further indoctrinated into being cats' paws and pawns. The military? Next crop of fresh meat.

It's working as intended.

Can you give me a source or a cite on the 80% in 5 cities? That's roughly in line with what I've seen, and I'd like to use those kinds of numbers in debates in the future.
Maybe , if I can find it off my old computer Hard drive. It was from an article from 2017-18 if I memory serves.

And the schools were closed for two years...

There is going to be a absolutely massive spike in illiteracy and crime. They won't hold them back the two years if they fail anything so people are going to get out of school over the next several years and be completely incapable of getting employed or able to function. They will of course demand government take care of them and vote for the party that says it will.
