You know, the last few years have really helped me see why so many people throughout history are scornful towards intellectuals. Or midwife trying to be ones.

Midwits you mean. People who over-estimate how smart they are.
The modern left's idea of intellectual debate seems to be to scream insults at anyone who dissents from their narrative.

EDIT: Also, the kind of people who pretend to be intellectuals on their side, seem most often to be the sort who treat every social interaction as a status-contest. Everything for them is self-promotion.

They don-t pretend to be saints or for doing for the good of...anything.
But in fact they do that, and in a more literal way than western agencies.
The fact that you are not seeing this and several other attempts of theirs to do exactly that shows that either you are willfully blind or Kremlin values the opinion of your demographic so little that it doesn't even bother to send some propaganda your way.
And not just for image:

The difference is, Ukraine asked the CIA for help against the FSB/Russians, because that is who had dominated/subjugated their nation beforehand.

And it was not the CIA who downed MH17; that is on fucking Igor Girkin's unit acting on Putin's orders.

Ah yes, Communism has only ever failed due to CIA interference, comrade!

Certainly this excuse is not old, worn out, beaten to death, and a recurring fantasy of tankies around the world!

...Seriously, it's one thing to not want to be involved in Ukraine, it's another thing to fall so hard for Russian propaganda, you're regurgitating socialist shibboleths from sixty years ago.
