Yes, the proper solution is therapy and not surgical intervention.I don't. Since 99% of them are transtrenders I have nothing but contempt for them all. For the very small segment of the population that have gender dysphoria the treatment is the same as for body dysmorphia. It's not mutilation; it's fucking therapy and learning to manage the problem with coping strategies and pharmaceuticals. From top to bottom the entire phenonmena is a disgusting perversion of human decency, medical malpractice, and corporate malfeasance.
The work thing is actually a moral conundrum of sorts for me.The ugly truth is that they won't. In the unlikely they find a medical professional with actual standards and morals, then great. But that just doesn't exist in the American mental health fields right now.
If you mean on a case-by-case basis like with your coworker, then you can only tell them this if they want your opinion. Otherwise, you can do nothing. However, I think you do them a disservice playing into their delusions. I can get not wanting to make waves at work but it's still a disservice to them. Just not something you can avoid if you want to maintain a good working environment.
I have read it. calling it a psychotic breakdown is a huge under statement.Ellen Page had a psychotic breakdown, went to shrink and less than a week later had her tits cut off and 'is a he.' This is what Elliot told the LA times, IIRC.
What if instead of uploading the mind wholesale, you just replace bits and pieces of the brain until you've gone full Ship of Theseus? At what point does it stop being "you" and becomes someone else entirely?Does the idiom of the person "watching from the afterlife" upset you that much?
Replacing a living person with a robot that "seems like the same person by every measure" misses the point. By every external measure, you mean. But not from that person's own personal point of view.
I used to hold this view, too. Nowadays, though, I tend to view them more along the lines of vampires. Which is to say that it's somewhat tragic because at one point they were a victim themselves, but currently represent a threat. This is both in the sense that way too many of them are ticking time bombs because they have these other mental health issues which have not gone away and are not getting treated, and in the sense that they are attacking the individual rights of others and have frankly gone full Orwell. Also, they are doing everything they can to make others like them and are going after children. This is why I choose to view most of them as victims deserving of empathy.

The joke being that the state hasn’t been doing their logistical jobs anyway?
Hey now the Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigeig really loved running trains. he even told biden that. not his fault that the dementia kicked in and now he is in charge of a very important position with no experience. The joke being that the state hasn’t been doing their logistical jobs anyway?

Oh I am well aware of the scientific impossibility of it; thing is though, it's no more unrealistic than trying to upload one's mind into a computer. We'd need to be so much more advanced than we are now, that we'll probably have biological immortality figured out centuries before uploading or robotizing our minds becomes an option. That's not the same idea at all as that of "uploading" the person's mind into a machine that's a distinct thing from their body, and pretending that the simulation in the machine is the person.
Okay, first off - you cannot simply "just replace bits and pieces" the way you seem to think. Those "bits and pieces" are all interconnected to each other. Ponder on this:
Seriously. The physical pathways of a human brain change continuously. It is "re-wriring" itself all the time, with every new experience, every new action, every new thought.
- There are more interconnections between different neurons in a human brain than there are stars in the galaxy.
- Those interconnections are unique to each individual.
- They are constantly changing.
Imagine that you opened the door into a data center, and saw lines and lines of computers on shelves, stretching into the distance beyond sight. Then you notice that instead of going through any kind of central data bus, those individual computers communicate with each other by means of ethernet cables running directly from one to another.
And the cables are constantly moving. Growing, extending and branching. All of the corridors between the shelves are a writhing mass of cables that are continuously reaching out and plugging themselves into more other computers, or sometimes unplugging themselves and retracting.
(Yes, new ethernet ports just appear on the computers as needed. Some of them already have thousands.)
Still want to walk in there and replace some of it?
I think a better question would be at what point it would stop being "you" not because it became someone else, but because it ceased to be someone at all. And that's not a question we can know the answer to by abstract speculation.
Yeah I think the complexity of defeating the process of aging seems way more simple than reproducing a brain.Oh I am well aware of the scientific impossibility of it; thing is though, it's no more unrealistic than trying to upload one's mind into a computer. Well, cogboy/girl aka toaster sexual should be its own weird fetish/"sexuality"Remake of an old joke.
Last I looked into it, we're well on our way there; though it would help if the "learned elites" weren't obsessed with achieving immortality through the scientific equivalent of waving a freshly-beheaded chicken in the air to gain the gods' favor, and backed the research that would actually have a shot at saving them.Yeah I think the complexity of defeating the process of aging seems way more simple than reproducing a brain.
But I'm no expert on this shit.
