In the "Talk About Anything" thread I mentioned that I was hospitalized for most of May and April. The bill for that was several million.

US emergency healthcare may be obscenely expensive for those who can pay but it's also good and you will almost always be taken care of ASAP even if you don't have insurance and can't pay because American hospital emergency departments operate on a "treat the patient and ask questions later" basis.

My "call them if something goes wrong" emergency contact was a doctor who lives in Seattle.

An American ambulance with its lights flashing and sirens blaring is saying "get the fuck out of the way because I'm coming through" which can be heard from quite some distance away and there's a decent chance that it's being escorted by a fire engine carrying paramedics or at least one police cruiser.
