I'm starting to think that arranged marriages where your spouse is the closest nearby available in terms of age when you're born is the way to go.

That would mean opposite-sex twins are almost always husband and wife. Everyone else probably gets a spouse they're completely unrelated to from a family which might have absolutely nothing in common with the ones their parents came from.

if you live in an area of extreme poverty where life is on the edge then marrying for love rather then marrying to secure advantages and alliances is an incredibly bad idea. It wasnt done out of control but to ensure survival.
