Movies Marvel Cinematic Universe

I think he's seeing the writing on the wall and is trying to pull back as much as possible.

The MCU is crashing and burning, and what used to be a mark of great prestige (to direct an MCU project) is now becoming a reputational "loose noose" that could tighten real soon.

I don't think things are completely doomed, but Marvel does need to address this quickly... it DOES seem like they are. Blade is getting pushed back again due to it having been about some weird story about women empowerment and not Blade, and Daredevil is going back to the drawing board.

I really don't think there's "superhero fatigue" either it's more just... shitty movie and characters I don't care about fatigue. I'm BEYOND pumped for Deadpool. I can't wait for Fantastic Four, X-Men, Daredevil... there's all kinds of awesome things I can't wait for. But they've been more interested in shoving crap out instead.

Even with all that though, I still think by and large the MCU is... pretty good post-Endgame. It's not the same, but it's still good.
Far From Home was a fairly solid Spiderman movie.
Black Widow was... fine. It was kind of unnecessary and the time had passed for it, but it wasn't bad.
Shang Chi was pretty cool.
Eternals was garbage, could have been ok if they made it a show instead.
Far From Home was great, up there towards the top of my MCU picks.
Dr. Strange was pretty cool, I enjoyed it.
Thor... was an oddball in that as a film, it was kind of a mess but... I liked it. I enjoyed the shit out of the Love and Thunder.
Wakanda Forever was weak.
Ant-Man I actually liked too... it gets shit on alot but I don't see it. It was a fun movie.
Marvels REALLY wasn't a terrible movie. It's just one of those movies you should only do wedged inbetween really good things.

Wandavision was fantastic.
Loki was fantastic.
Falcon and Winter Soldier was cool enough.
She-Hulk was a disaster.

By and large, the batting average is still pretty good.

I just saw the rest of Loki Season Two after seeing the first two episodes and thinking how utterly boring and unimpactful and messy it was. I watched most of it on background, there were only four episodes left.

But after watching two more extremely weak, more of the same episodes... I started being drawn back into it with the fifth episode... and THEN With the sixth and final episode, I was actually sitting down and watching it because I found it rather interesting... finally.

And I have to admit... Loki in general has been an incredibly flawed, cheap looking, messy and jumbled, and emotionally dead sort of television series that tried to deal with this big epic profound ideas and just never hit the mark.

It ALMOST did with the final episode this season. In fact it did so good that it was probably one of the better moments of the MCU, especially as of late when it comes to the category of impact. Like I watched it and I was like... This was a Big Idea they were tackling it and while it wasn't done exceptionally well, it was done well. A lot of "Big Idea" sort of Science Fiction stories generate great interest and buildup, but almost always fail to stick the landing.

Loki was almost the inverse. It was two six episode seasons of most vapid well acted mediocrity that almost stuck the landing and left me genuinely thinking "Wow. That was a good ending."

Can two seasons of mediocrity be made up for with one solid climax?

No.

But I'll give Loki and Marvel points for doing well something that's really hard to do IMHO in exploring a big idea in Science Fiction/Fantasy and actually finishing it off well with a decent payoff. It surprised and impressed me.

I wish I had your optimism, but I honestly think you're looking at all the good points and none of the bad, which far outweigh the good.

Loki has some high points, but it ultimately falls short despite the interesting climax. Also, for setting up the new Big Bad for the Avengers... it doesn't work. Even with the movie tie-ins (e.g. Quantamania), it's still weak.

At least we agree on that She-Turd should've been napalmed after the first two minutes, though.

one of my leads where I used to work liked it. it was weird but it kinda makes sense. guy was getting like 4 hours of sleep a day 5-6 days a week and was so impared he would sometimes stop and stare at a wall for like 30 seconds before startling at me not moving and looking around lost before returning to the world and looking like he wanted to blow his brains out.

I'm not too certain about this guys taste, after a description like that.

he consoomed a lot of Disney MCU and star wars. he was a both sides bad sort when it came to politics but he made sure to mostly just complain about the bad orange man if it came up. also liked soulsborn games. alot. mostly just ranted about how shit his life was. how much he hated his bitch of an ex. and how the only thing keeping him from blowing his brains out was that he needed to financially support his kids. that he barely got to see. yeah he was really fucked.

She Hulk and lets say Ms Marvel for an example weren't bad IMHO. But they were shit Marvel Cinematic Universe properties. I talked about both shows previously in this thread so I won't repeat myself but in brief...

She-Hulk was average as like some single female lawyer legal dramedy or sit-com, maybe with some twist where she has superpowers. Oh dear... how is she going to balance that life. But it's not a SUPERHERO story. It's a barely passable legal sitcom that doesn't do Marvel or its characters much justice.

Ms. Marvel I actually liked more, but it was something more appropriate for ABC Family Channel or the Disney Channel then another MCU Superhero piece. It was basically a teen comedy/coming of age thing. I liked watching it. I liked watching it with the anklebiters. But it wasn't MCU.

Regardless of their quality, it wasn't good enough to raise the bar. They actually lowered the bar considerably.

Whose ready for Thor 5? Chris Hemsworth is in talks of returning though thankfully Taiki Waititi isn't as Director.

Oh and Glenn from The Walking Dead might be Sentry in the MCU. Robert Kirkman of all people apparently didn't give af and revealed it.

Congratulations to Steven Yuen. I like him as an Actor. Hopefully whatever property he's in won't be all balls.

Oh and spoilers? Not really. Your first three Young Avengers.

Echo trailer for the next Marvel Television series to be presented on Disney Plus. Seems to feature Pirate Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin as well.

I'm astonished. There's been basically no gloating over The Marvels' failure online, even in right wing spaces.
I would have to care about the MCU to gloat over it's failures. at this point something like 75% to 90% of people I talk to just say they checked out after Endgame. maybe they dipped their toe in to a single show or movie afterwards to check it out. but they usually regretted it. people are apathetic to it now. it lives if they can get enough people to get their asses in the seats. I got told it wasn't for those like me so whoever it is for can have it.

This, essentially.

Honestly, I think the reality is that, with the way streaming is being broken up, and the realities of entertainment today - I think a movie franchise holding the global zeitgeist as long as the MCU has is barely possible.

It wouldn't even have mattered if everything was up to the quality of early Captain America/Iron Man/Avengers films. There's no way they'd be able to continue holding everyone's attention forever - especially when, instead of getting 2 movies a year, we are getting 2-3 movies and like 3 TV seasons.

We're supposed to get 5 MCU movies in 2025. WTF?

Note: I included the ABC shows, but excluded the Netflix's shows other than Daredevil because Daredevil is the only one that's confirmed to be MCU canon.

How many people can actually keep up with all this shit? Not only that - but with the Kang Saga being a fucking mess, no one can be sure whether its even going anywhere, let alone if they actually care about where its going.

You know about how the Shuri actress is apparently an anti-Vaxxer?

Never before have I seen such magnificent irony. The super genius is played by an illiterate idiot with a serious case of Dunnig-Kruger. The fantasy vs the reality of the African-American community.

The only way it could be funnier is if she was also a Hotep.

She backed down and disowned her posts on the topic, but she pointedly refused to answer whether or not she'd actually taken any COVID vaccines.

Anyway, it barely gets talked about because (1) she's a very minor character and (2) she's African American. To be a little frank, people don't really care if African American celebrities have crazy beliefs, unless you're Kanye or antisemitic.

I'm not the only one who just doesn't give a shit about anything Marvel coming out now, right? My interest waned and died pretty much after Endgame, and even then I was only really curious to see how it'd all end.

Disney's/Marvel's just churning crap after crap now to try to keep their molding gravy train rolling.

I only give a shit when there is a flop and I can point and laugh at the buffoons.

Jonathan Majors was apparently facing four misdemeanor charges and was found not guilty of intentional assault in the third degree, and not guilty of aggravated harassment in the second degree.

He was found guilty of harassment and reckless assault in the third degree. He hasn't been sentenced yet but could face up to a year of incarceration. He could also face a lot less than that.

The trial had eight days of testimony and three days of deliberation by the jurors.

Due to the outcome of the trial, it seems Jonathan Majors is now out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No idea on if the character will be written out or recasted but they are renaming the next Avengers movie which was already getting a rewrite as of last month.

Hollywood Reporter said:
In November, Marvel hired Loki creator Michael Waldron to work on a new draft of what was once called Kang Dynasty, but is now being referred to as Avengers 5, according to sources. The studio has had months to plan for such an eventuality, and it’s possible that Waldon was part of that course correction.
