Breaking News Large earthquake in Turkey/Syria.

Yeah, most of the corpses under collapsed multistory buildings haven't been reached yet and given the scope of disaster it will be weeks before the last of the bodies are found, so the death toll will certainly exceed 50.000.

This might be the worst natural disaster in my life so far. Have we had anything worse happen in fhe last 30-40 years?

I have no doubt this will exceed 50,000 deaths.

1988, earthquake in Armenia. About 25.000 dead.

1990, earthquake in Iran. About 50.000 dead.

1991, cyclone hits Bengal. Nearly 139.000 dead.

2003, earthquake in Iran. About 23.000 dead.

2004, Indian Ocean tsunami. Almost 228.000 dead.

2005, earthquake in Kashmir. About 87.000 dead.

2008, cyclone hits Burma. About 138.000 dead.

2010, earthquake in Haiti. About 160.000 dead.

It's incredibly easy to forget that things like this ever happened, if they didn't happen anywhere near you. I remembered the big tsunami and the quake in Haiti, but all the others, I had to look up. I knew things had happened, but I didn't recall the specifics anymore.

Yeah I didn't know about a good deal of these. Wow.

Death toll surpassed 25,000 but as stated earlier in the thread, it's likely to at least double before the end.

Finland and Sweden should offer aid. This would be the prefect opportunity.

They both pledged aid pretty early on actually.

Yeah I saw the death toll reached 47,000 recently which actually might be a sign of the casualty count slowing thankfully since a couple days ago it was "only" 46,000. But quite a serious loss of life regardless and it is still growing.
